A t least one of the red traPc lights detected is
on the front passenger side beside the vehi-
cle's own lane.
= The traPc lights are in the following sequence
(from top to bottom): red, yellow, green.
% If the function is available, you can activate or
deactiv
ate the warnings at pedestrian cross-
ings, stop signs and red lights in the TraPc
Sign Assist menu under Further warnings
(  page 262).
System limits
The sy
stem may be impaired or may not function
particularly in the following situations:
= If visibility is poor, e.g. due to insuPcient illu-
mination of the road, highly variable shade
conditions, rain, snow, fog, swirling dust or
heavy spray.
= If there is glare, e.g. from oncoming traPc,
direct sunlight or reOections.
= If there is dirt on the windscreen in the vicinity
of the multifunction camera or if the camera is
misted up, damaged or obscured. =
If tr
aPc signs are diPcult to detect, e.g.
because they are dirty, covered, faded, cov-
ered with ice, damaged, badly positioned,
poorly lit or twisted.
= Active traPc signs with LED displays may not
be detected correctly or at all due to technical
factors, suchas transmission frequency.
= If the information on the navigation system's
digital map is incorrect, incomplete or out of
date.
= If signs or the road layout is ambiguous, e.g.
traPc signs in roadworks, at exits and ramps,
in neighbouring lanes or parallel roads.
= If signs do not conform to the standard.
= If signs or road layouts are speciNc to the
country and deviate from the route guidance
in the navigation system, e.g. at or beyond
construction sites.
= Aser sharp turns and tight bends, when traPc
signs are outside the camera's Neld of vision.
= If you overtake vehicles with traPc signs
which are aPxed or attached to them. =
If y ou are using transport equipment secured
to the vehicle with a trailer coupling, suchas a
bicycle rack, restrictions for car/trailer combi-
nations may be considered valid if applicable.

TraPc
light vie w Information about the
tr
aPc light view
The traPc light view supports the driver when
waiting in front of a red light by displaying the
camera image on the central display. The camera
image is displayed when the driver is the Nrst vehi-
cle in front of the red light and faded out when the
vehicle drives oM.

Function of Blind Spot Assist and Active Blind

t Assist with exit warning
Blind Spot Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist use
radar sensors to monitor the area up to 40 m
behind and 3 m next to your vehicle.
The system can detect vehicles travelling from
speeds of approximately 12 km/h and issue a
warning if they move into the monitoring range. Status display in the driver's display

If a vehicle is detected in the warning range and
y
ou switch on the turn signal indicator in the cor-
responding direction, a double warning tone
sounds once, and the warning lamp Oashes red in
the corresponding outside mirror. Red radar
waves 2 are displayed next to your vehicle in the
assistance graphic.
If the turn signal indicator remains on, the display
in the outside mirror Oashes for all other detected
vehicles, but no further warning tone sounds. If
you overtake a vehicle quickly, no warning is
given.
Observe the notes on driving systems and your
responsibility; you may otherwise fail to recognise
dangers ( page 227). &

Spot Assist
Blind Spot Assist does not react to vehicles

oaching and overtaking you at a greatly
diMerent speed.
Blind Spot Assist cannot warn drivers in this
situation. 
Always pay careful attention to the tr

situation and maintain a safe distance at
the side of the vehicle. Exit warning
The e

xit warning is an additional function of Blind
Spot Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist and can
warn vehicle occupants attempting to leave a sta-
tionary vehicle about approaching vehicles. &

The exit warning neither reacts to stationary
objects nor t
o persons or road users
approaching you at a greatly diMering speed.
The exit warning cannot warn drivers in these
situations. 
Always pay particular attention to the
tr
aPc situation when opening the doors
and make sure there is suPcient clear-
ance. If a vehicle is detected in the monitoring range,
t
he red warning lamp lights up in the correspond-
ing outside mirror.
If a vehicle occupant pulls the door handle on the
side of the warning, a warning tone sounds twice
and the ambient lighting in the respective door
and the warning lamps in the corresponding out-
side mirror Oash red.
% Vehicles with ambient lighting: t
he Warning
assistance of the ambient lighting can be
activated and deactivated ( page 147).
% The warning assistance can diMer depending
on t
he equipment and may vary according to
the setting.
This exit warning is only available when Blind Spot
Assis
t is active.
Aser the vehicle is switched oM, the exit warning
continues to function for a few minutes. When the
outside mirror warning lamp Oashes three times,
the exit warning is no longer available.
The exit warning is only an aid and not a substi-
tute for the attention of vehicle occupants. The
responsibility for opening and closing the doors 264

and for leaving the vehicle remains with the vehi-
cle occupants.
Sy
stem limits
Blind Spot Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist may
be limited in the following situations, in particular:
= if there is dirt on the sensors or the sensors
are obscured
= in poor visibility, e.g. due to fog, heavy rain or
snow
= if there are narrow vehicles, e.g. bicycles or
motorbikes
= if the road has very wide or narrow lanes
= if vehicles are not driving in the middle of their
lane
Warnings may be issued in error when driving
close to crash barriers or similar continuous lane
borders. Always make sure that there is suPcient
distance to the side for other traPc or obstacles.
Warnings may be interrupted when driving along-
side long vehicles, for example lorries, for a pro-
longed time. Blind Spot Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist are
no t operational when reverse gear is engaged.
Blind Spot Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist are
not operational if transport equipment, for exam-
ple a trailer or bicycle rack, is attached to the
trailer hitch and the electrical connection has
been correctly established.
Additionally, the exit warning may be limited in the
following situations:
= when the sensors are covered by adjacent
vehicles in narrow parking spaces
= when people approach the vehicle
= in the event of stationary or slowly moving
objects
Function of the brake application of Active Blind
Spot Assist

If Active Blind Spot Assist detects a risk of a side
im
pact in the monitoring range, a course-correct-
ing brake application is carried out. This is
designed to help you avoid a collision. The course-correcting brake application is availa-

In rare cases, the system may make an inappro-
priate brake application. This brake application may be interrupted at any time if you steer slightly
in t

he opposite direction or accelerate.
System limits
Either a course-correcting brake application
appropriate to the driving situation, or none at all,
may occur especially in the following situations:
= Vehicles or obstacles, e.g. crash barriers, are
located on both sides of your vehicle.
= A vehicle approaches too closely on the side.
= You have adopted a sporty driving style with
high cornering speeds.
= You brake or accelerate signiNcantly.
= A driving safety system intervenes, e.g. ESP n
or Active Brake Assist.
= ESP n
is deactivated.
= A loss of tyre pressure or a defective tyre is
detected.
= Transport equipment, for example a trailer or
bicycle rack, is attached to the trailer hitch
and the electrical connection has been cor-

Assist. Active Lane Keeping Assist
Function of Active Lane Keeping Assist
A

ctive Lane Keeping Assist monitors the area in
front of your vehicle by means of the multifunction
camera (  page 227) and can warn you before
you leave your lane unintentionally. The system
can guide you back into your lane through a
course-correcting steering intervention and addi-
tionally warns you with vibration pulses in the
steering wheel. Active Lane Keeping Assist is
available in the speed range between 60 km/h
and 200 km/h. 266
Driving and parking

The system can intervene in the following situa-
tions:
= A
ctive Lane Keeping Assist detects a lane
marking.
= One of your front wheels goes over a lane
marking.
If you activate the turn signal indicator, a steering
intervention does not occur on the corresponding
side.
If you leave the lane without activating the turn
signal indicator, but danger of a collision with a
moving obstacle is detected in your lane, a steer-
ing intervention does not occur.
Vehicles with Blind Spot Assist or Driving Assis-
tance Package: if the system detects an obstacle,
such as another vehicle in the adjacent lane, a
steering intervention will occur regardless of the
turn signal indicator. Display
1 will appear in t
he driver's display and a
warning tone will sound in the following situations:
= A steering intervention by Active Lane Keeping
Assist lasts longer than approximately ten sec-
onds.
= The system carries out two or more steering
interventions within approximately three
minutes without any steering intervention from
the driver.
In the Active Lane Keeping Assist settings, you
can set the sensitivity of the system and set the
level of support. Additionally, you can set whether
the system should react to discontinuous lane markings or only continuous lane markings
( pag

e 269).
Status displays for Active Lane Keeping Assist
ï White: A
ctive Lane Keeping Assist is deac-
tivated.
If ESPn
is deactivated or a tire pressure
loss warning is displayed, Active Lane
Keeping Assist is automatically deactiva-
ted.
ï Yellow: t
here is a malfunction. Please also
observe the display messages.
ð Grey: A
ctive Lane Keeping Assist is activa-
ted, but not operating.
ð Green: A
ctive Lane Keeping Assist is acti-
vated and operating. If the system is opera-
tional on only one side, the lane marking is
shown in green on the corresponding side.
ð Red: A
ctive Lane Keeping Assist has gui-
ded you back into your lane with a course-
correcting steering intervention. The status
display will Oash if there is also a haptic
warning in the steering wheel. The lane Driving and parking

marking is shown in red only on the side

or which there is a warning.
Vehicles without Driving Assistance Pack-
age: if both lane markings are simultane-
ously shown in red in the status display,
Active Lane Keeping Assist has initiated an
emergency stop ( page 249).
Active Lane Change Assist display in the "Assis-

he following situations, a lane-correcting steer-
ing intervention may not occur but rather a warn-
ing may be given on the steering wheel, depend-
ing on the situation:
= You clearly and actively steer, brake or accel-
erate.
= If a driving safety system intervenes, such as
ESP n
, Active Brake Assist or Active Blind Spot
Assist.
= You have adopted a sporty driving style with
high cornering speeds or high rates of acceler-
ation.
= If transport equipment, forexample a trailer or
bicycle rack, is attached to the trailer hitch
and the electrical connection has been cor-
rectly established.
The system may be impaired or may not function
particularly in the following situations:
= If there is poor visibility, e.g. due to insuPcient
illumination of the road, highly variable shade
conditions, rain, snow, fog or heavy spray. =

= If there is dirt on the bumper in the area of the
radar sensors, or if they are damaged or cov-

= If there are no lane markings, or several
unclear lane markings are present for one
lane, e.g. around roadworks.
= If the lane markings are worn, dark or cov-
ered.
= If the distance to the vehicle in front is too
short and thus the lane markings cannot be
detected.
= If the lane markings change quickly, e.g. lanes
branch oM, cross one another or merge.
= If the carriageway is very narrow and winding.

dangers. DYNAMIC BODY CONTROL continuously adjusts

he characteristics of the suspension dampers to
the current operating and driving conditions.
The damping is set individually for each wheel and
is aMected by the following factors:
= the road surface conditions
= vehicle load
= the drive program selected
= the driving style
The drive program can be adjusted using the
