WARNING Risk of acid burn s and poi‐
soning due tothe anti-dazzle mir ror elec‐
trolyte
Electrolyte may escape if theglass in an
automatic anti-dazzle mir ror breaks.
The electrolyte is hazardous tohealth and
causes ir rita tion. It mu stnot come into con‐
ta ct with your skin, eyes,respiratory or gans
or clo thing or be swallo wed. #
Ifyo u come into contact with electro‐
ly te , obser vethefo llowing:
R Immediately rinse the electrolyte
from your skin with water and seek
medical attention.
R If electrolyte comes into contact
with your eyes, immediately rinse
th em thoroughly with clean water
and seek medical attention.
R Ifth e electrolyte is swallo wed,
immediately rinse your mouth out
th oroughl y.Do not induce vomiting.
Seek medical attention immediately. R
Immedia tely ch ange out of clo thing
which has been con taminated with
electrolyte.
R If an allergic reaction occurs, seek
medical attention immediatel y. The inside
rear-view mir ror and the outside mir‐
ro r on the driver's side will automatically go into
anti-dazzle mode if light from a headlamp hits
th e sensor on the inside rear-view mir ror.
Sy stem limits
The sy stem will not go into anti-dazzle mode if:
R The engine is switched off.
R Reversege ar is engaged.
R The interior lighting is swit ched on. Fr
ont-passenger outside mir ror parking posi‐
tion function %
The pa rking position is available on ly invehi‐
cles with a memory function.
The parking position makes parking easier. In
thefo llowing situations, the front-passen ger
outside mir ror will swive l downwards in the
direction of there ar wheel on the front passeng‐
er's side:
R the parking position is stored (/ page148)
R The front-passenger mir ror is selected
R Reversege ar is engaged.
The front-passenger outside mir ror will mo ve
back toits original position in thefo llowing sit‐
uations:
R You shift the transmission toano ther trans‐
mission position
R You are tra velling at speeds greaterth an
15 km/h
R You press the button forth e outside mir ror
on the driver's side Light and sight

Avoid overstraining theve hicle, e.g. driving at
full thro ttle.
R Do not depress the accelerator pedal past
th e pressure point (kickdown).
R Only increase the engine speed gradually and
accelera tetheve hicle tofull speed af ter
1, 500 km.
This also applies when the engine or parts of the
driv etra in ha vebeen replaced.
Please also obser vethefo llowing running-in
no tes:
R in cer tain driving and driving saf ety sy stems,
th e sensors adjust automatically while a cer‐
ta in dis tance is being driven af terth eve hicle
has been delivered or af terre pairs. Full sys‐
te m ef fectiveness is not reached until the
end of this teach-in process.
R brakepads, brake discs and tyres that are
either new or ha vebeen replaced only ach‐
ie ve optimum braking ef fect and grip af ter
se veral hundred kilom etre s of driving. Com‐
pensate forth ere duced braking ef fect by
applying greaterfo rc eto the brake pedal. Note
s on optimised acceleration If all necessary
requ irements and activation con‐
ditions are fulfilled, the best possible accelera‐
tion can be achie ved from a standstill.
Do not use the optimised acceleration on public
ro ads. Individual wheels could spin and you
could lose control of theve hicle. There is an
increased risk of skidding and/or accident.

When you use optimised acceleration, indi‐
vidual wheels could spin and you could lose
cont rol of theve hicle.
If ESP ®
is deactivated, there is a risk of skid‐
ding and accident! #
Make sure that no persons or obstacles
are in the close vicinity of your vehicle. Re
quirements:
R theve hicle is run in (/ page 165).
R theve hicle and tyres are in good condition.
R you are on a high-g rip ro adw ay.
R the engine and transmission are at normal
operating temp erature.

st op function is not available in all drive pro‐

The engine is switched off automatically in the
fo llowing situations if all vehicle conditions for
an automatic engine stop are me t:
R You brake theve hicle toast andstill in trans‐
mission position 005Bor005C.
R Vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical
sy stem: You depress the brake pedal when
tra velling at a low speed.
If th e sy stem has de tected one of thefo llowing
situations, the engine will not stop:
R Youstop at a stop sign and there is no vehi‐
cle in front of you.
R The vehicle that stopped in front of you
st arts up again.
R You manoeuv re, turn thesteering wheel
sharply or engage reve rsege ar. %
Ifth e sy stem de tects an intellige ntstop
inhibitor, forex ample, a stop sign, the engine
will not stop.
If yo u activate the HOLD function or engage
th e park position 005D,the engine can be
switched off in spite of an intelligent stop
inhibitor.
The engine is restar ted automatically if:
R You en gage transmission position 005Bor005E.
R You depress the accelerator pedal.
R An automatic engine start is requiredbythe
ve hicle.
R Youre lease the brake pedal.
R Vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical
sy stem:
- Youre lease the brake pedal on a downhill
gradient and theve hicle does not roll.
- The vehicle rolls on a downhill gradient
and does not automatically enter glide

DIRECT SELECT le ver up or down tothefirst
point of resis tance.
% Toshift into neutral 005Cwith the ignition on,
push the selector le ver up or down for sev‐
eral seconds tothefirs t point of resis tance.
Subsequently releasing the brake pedal will
allow youto mo vetheve hicle freel y,e.g. topush
it or tow it away.
Proceed as follo ws ifyo uwa ntthe automatic
transmission toremain in neutral 005C 005C,even if
th e ignition is switched off or the driver's
door is opened: #
Dep ress the brake pedal and engage neutral
005C when the car is stationar y.
The message N permanently active Risk of
vehicle rolling appears inthe instrument

Release the brake pedal. #
Switch the ignition off. %

short time until 005Dis engaged. Therefore, alw
ays pay attention tothe transmission

Pa rk position 005Dis engaged automatically if one
of thefo llowing conditions is me t:
R You swit choff the ignition when theve hicle
is stationary and the transmission position is
005B or005E.
R You open the driver's door when theve hicle
is at a standstill or when driving at a very low
speed and the transmission position is 005Bor
005E.
R You swit choff the engine and bring theve hi‐
cle toast andstill when theve hicle is rolling
and the transmission position is 005Bor005E.
R You swit choff the engine, bring theve hicle
to ast andstill and open the driver's door
when theve hicle is stationary or when the
ve hicle is rolling and the transmission posi‐
tion is 005C.
R Enga ging park position 005Dautomatically is

Fu nction of the electric pa rking brake
(releasing automatically)
The electric parking brake is released when
th efo llowing conditions are fulfilled:
R The driver's door is closed.
R The engine is running.
R The transmission is in position 005Bor005E and
yo u depress the accelera tor pedal or you
shift from transmission position 005Dto005B or
005E when on le velground.
R Ifth e transmission is in position 005E,theta il‐
ga te must be closed.
R The seat belt tongue is inser ted into the seat
belt buckle of the driver's seat. When
the electric parking brake is released, the
re d0024 indicator lamp in the instrument clus‐
te r goes out.

The red0024 indicator lamp lights up in the

% The electric parking brake is only securely
applied if there d0024 indicator lamp is lit
continuously.
Re leasing #
Swit chon the ignition. #
Pull handle 1.
The red0024 indicator lamp in the instru‐
ment clus ter goes out.
Emer gency braking #
Press and hold handle 1.
As long as theve hicle is driving, theRelease
parking brake message is displa yed and the
re d0024 indicator lamp flashes.
When theve hicle has been braked to a
st andstill, the electric parking brake is
applied. The red0024 indicator lamp lights
