adjusting the seat with the memory func-
tion
When the memory function adjusts the seat,
yo u and other vehicle occupants – particular ly
ch ildren – could become trapped. #
During the adjustment process of the
memory function, make sure that no one
has any body parts in the sweep of the
seat. #
If someone becomes trapped, press a
preset position button or seat adjust-
ment switch immediatel y.&

Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
ga ses, such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
ga ses can enter theve hicle interior if theta il-
ga te is open when theve hicle is running,
especially if theve hicle is in motion. #
Always switch o. theve hicle before
opening theta ilgate. #
Never drive with theta ilgate open. &

items in theve hicle
If objects, lug gage or loads are not secured or
not secured su1cient ly,they could slip, tip
ov er or be thro wn around and thereby hit vehi-
cle occupants.

eve nt of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction. #
Always st owobjects in such a wayth at

objects they contain. There is a
risk of injur y,particular lyin the
eve nt of braking manoeuvres or abrupt
ch anges in direction. #
Always st owobjects so that they cann ot
be thro wn around in such situations. #
Always make sure that objects do not
pr otru de from st owage spaces, lug gage
nets or st owage nets. #
Close the loc kable st owage spaces
before starting a jou rney. #
Stow and secure objects that are heavy,
hard, poin ted, sharp-edged, fragile or too
lar ge inthe load compartment. &

when using the cup holder while theve hi-
cle is in motion
The cup holder cann othold a container secure
while theve hicle is in motion. If
yo u use a cup holder while theve hicle is in
motion, the container may be 0ung around
and liquids could be spilled. The vehicle occu-
pants may come into contact with the liquid
and if it is hot, they could be scalded. Yo u
could be distracted from tra1c conditions and
yo u may lose control of theve hicle. #
Only use the cup holder when theve hicle
is stationar y. #
Only use the cup holder for containers of
th eright size. #
Always close the container, particular lyif
th e liquid is hot. *

and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of theve hicle, you could burn
yo urself. #
Always be particular lycareful around the
ta ilpipe and theta ilpipe trims and super-
vise children especially closely in this
area. #
Allow vehicle parts tocool down before
to uching them. The driving
characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within
th eve hicle. You should bear thefo llowing in mind
when loading theve hicle:
R neverex ceed the permissible gross mass or
th e permissible axle loads forth eve hicle
(including occupants). Information can be
found on theve hicle identi-
/cation plate (/ page 371).
R the load must not pr otru de abo vethe upper
edge of the seat backrests.
R always use the partition net when transporting
objects in the load compartment.
R always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
R secure the load using the tie-down eyes and
distribute the load evenl y.

R Evenly dist ribute thero of load, and place
heavy objects at the bottom. Also comply with
th e no tes on loading theve hicle.
R Drive attentivel y,and avoid suddenly pulling
awa y,braking and steering as well as rapid
cornering.
R When transporting roof loads and when the
ve hicle is fully loaded or fully occupied, select
drive prog rams ; andA. These are

ests are folded forw ards
Re ar passen gers may come into contact with
parts of the mechanical seat components. #
Ifth e front passenger seat backrest is
fo lded forw ards and there is a passenger
in the car, the passenger must sit in the
re ar seat behind the driver. To
enlar gethe load compartment, you can fold
th e seat backrest on the front passenger side for-
wa rds.

When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a vehicle occupant. #
When adjusting a seat, make sure that
no one has any body parts in the sweep
of the seat. &

seat is not engaged
The seat does not engage when folded for-
wa rds. The seat can fold backwards unexpect-
edl y,e.g. when accelerating, braking or in the
eve nt of an abrupt change of direction or an
accident.
Pe ople in the seat's sweep can become trap-
ped. #
If a seat is folded forw ards, alw aysfo ld it
back before driving o.. #
Make sure that the seat is engaged. Alw
ays ensu rethat all vehicle occupants ha ve
th eir seat belts fastened co rrectly and are sitting
proper ly.Pa rticular attention must be paid tochil-
dren.
If yo u no longer requ ire thefo lded-down seat
backrest as a loading area, fold the backrest back
into place.

th ird rows of seats are folded forw ards, you
can push there ar ben chseat on the second
ro w of seats bac k.This will then pr ovide a
continuous load compartment sur face.
Ensure that the area between thero ws of
seats is clear.

are not engaged
The rear ben chseat, rear seat and seat bac k-
re st ma yfo ld forw ards, even while theve hicle
is in motion. R
As a result, theve hicle occupant will be
pressed into the seat belt with increased
fo rc e. The seat belt will not be able topro-
te ct as intended and could cause addi-
tional injur y.
R Objects or loads in the boot or load com-
partment cannot be restrained bythe seat
backrest. #
Make sure that there ar ben chseat, the
re ar seat and the seat backrest are
engaged before every trip. If
th ere ar seat backrest is not engaged and
loc ked in place, there d lock veri/cation indicator
will be visible.

seat belt when folding back the seat bac k-

Make sure that the seat belt is not trap-
ped when folding back the seat backrest. If
th e leT and centre seat backrests ha vebeen fol-
ded forw ards toget her, fold the leT seat backrest
back /rst. #
Movethe driver's or front passenger seat for-
wa rds, if necessar y. #
Swivel seat backrest 1back until it engages.
The seat backrest will remain in the cargo
position. #
ATer the seat backrest has been folded bac k,
ch eck the position of the head restraint and
