Press button 1. The hazard
warning lights will switch on auto‐

more than 70 km/h toast andstill.
When you pull away again, the hazard warning
light sy stem will switch off automatically at
appr oximately 10km/h. You can also swit choff
th e hazard warning light sy stem using but‐

aptive functions, MULTIBEAM LED Intelligent Light Sy
stem function
The MULTIBEAM LED headlamps adapt tothe
driving and weather situation and pr ovide exten‐
ded functions for impr oved illumination of the
ro ad.

The vehicle is badly damaged, e.g. af ter an
accident, and there stra int sy stem compo‐
nents ha venot been trig gered.
Operating the high-voltage disconnect
device
Only disconnect the drive sy stem manually in
th e abo ve-mentioned situations. #
Switch the ignition off. #
Shift the transmission toposition j. #
Apply the electric parking brake. #
Secure theve hicle against rolling away. #
Open the bonn et. #
Press release tab1 inthe direction of the
ar row and pull it out. #
Pull high-voltage disconnect device 2inthe
direction of the ar row until it en gage s.
The drive sy stem is disconnected.
All workon the drive sy stem (including af ter dis‐
connecting manually) may only be car ried out by

Depending on the selected recuperation le vel,
th e electric mo tor is operated as an alternator
when in overrun mode and during braking in
order tocharge the high-voltage battery while
driving. As soon as youre lease the accelerator
pedal when theve hicle is in motion, recupera‐
tion in overrun mode is initiated.
The higher there cuperation, the more sharply
th eve hicle is braked when coasting and the
more electrical energy is fed into the high-volt‐
age batter y.
The rege nerati vebrake sy stem has thefo llowing
ch aracteristics:

% Ifyo u brake hard, the mechanical brake is
also used. This means that the maximum
re cuperati veenergy cann otbe reco vered.
The more you drive and brake in an anticipa‐
to ry manner, the more ef ficiently there cu‐
perati veenergy can be used.
Sy stem limits
The braking ef fect of the electric mo tor during
re cuperation in overru n mode may be reduced or
may not be available at all in thefo llowing situa‐
tions:
R when the high-voltage battery charge level
inc reases
R ifth e high-voltage battery is not yet at a nor‐
mal operating temp erature
R when driving at speeds close tozero
R in transmission position i
R during and af ter ESP ®
inter venes In
these cases, the desired deceleration is set by
th e brake control sy stem. Also brake with the
service brake if necessar y.
Manually setting recuperative deceleration

Yo u can use thesteering wheel gearshift paddles
to manually adju st the intensity of recuperation
in ove rrun mode. %
When theve hicle is star ted again or trans‐
mission position his engaged again, the
st andard setting is automatically set. The
following recuperation le vels are available:

15 minutes and the transmission is in posi‐

heat.

Do not depress the brake pedal and the
accelerator pedal at the same time
while driving. Note
s on driving with a roof load, trailer or
fully laden vehicle
When driving with a loaded roof luggage rack or
trailer as well as with a fully laden or fully occu‐
pied vehicle, theve hicle's driving and steering
ch aracteristics change. Yo
u should bear thefo llowing in mind:
R Do not exceed the permissible roof load and
to wing capacity. Also obser vethete ch nical
da ta inthe printed Owner's Manual.
R Evenly distribute thero of load, and place
heavy objects at the bottom. Also comply
with the no tes on loading theve hicle
(/ page 106).
R Drive attentivel y,and avoid sudden lypulling
aw ay, braking and steering as well as rapid
cornering.
Note s on driving on salt-treated roads
The braking ef fect is limited on salt-trea ted
ro ads.
Therefore, obse rveth efo llowing no tes:
R due tosalt build-up on the brake disks and
brakepads, the braking dis tance can increase
conside rably or result in braking only on one
side
R maintain a much greater safe dis tance tothe
ve hicle in front To
remo vesalt build-up:
R brake occasionally while paying attention to
th e tra ffic conditions
R carefully depress the brake pedal at the end
of the journey and when starting the next
journey
Note s on aquaplaning
Aq uaplaning can take place once a cer tain
amount of water has accumulated on thero ad
sur face.
Obser vethefo llowing no tes during heavy precip‐
itation or in conditions in which aquaplaning may
occur:
R reduce speed
R avoid tyre ruts
R avoid sudden steering mo vements
R brake carefully
