Treadwear
The
treadwear
grade
is
a
comparative
rating
based
on
the
wear
rate
of
the
tire
when
tested
under
controlled
conditions
on
a
specified
gov#j
ernment
test
course.
E.g.,
a
tire
graded
150
would
wear
one
and
one-half,
1
g,
times
as
well
on
the
government
course
as
a
tire
graded
100.
The
relative
performance
of
tires
depends
upon
the
actual
conditions
of
their
use,
however,
and
may
depart
significantly
from
the
norm
due
to
variations
in
driving
habits,
service
practices
and
differences
in
road
characteristics
and
climate.
Traction
The
traction
grades,
from
highest
to
lowest,
are
AA,
A,
B,
and
C.
Those
grades
represent
the
tire's
ability
to
stop
on
wet
pavement
as
measured
under
controlled
conditions
on
specified
government
test
surfa#j
ces
of
asphalt
and
concrete.
A
tire
marked
C
may
have
poor
traction
performance.
The
traction
grade
assigned
to
this
tire
is
based
on
straight-ahead
braking
traction
tests,
and
does
not
include
acceleration,
cornering,
hydro#j
planing,
or
peak
traction
characteristics.
Temperature
The
temperature
grades
are
A,
the
highest,
B,
and
C,
representing
the
tire's
resistance
to
the
generation
of
heat
and
its
ability
to
dissipate
heat
when
tested
under
controlled
conditions
on
a
specified
indoor
laboratory
test
wheel.
Sustained
high
temperature
can
cause
the
material
of
the
tire
to
degenerate
and
reduce
tire
life,
and
exces#j
sive
temperature
can
lead
to
sudden
tire
failure.
The
grade
C
corresponds
to
a
level
of
perform#j
ance
which
all
passenger
car
tires
must
meet
un#j
der
the
Federal
Motor
Vehicle
Safety
Standard
No.
109.
Grades
Band
A
represent
higher
levels
of
performance
on
the
laboratory
test
wheel
than
the
minimum
required
by
law.
Warning
The
temperature
grade
for
this
tire
is
estab#j
lished
for
a
tire
that
is
properly
inflated
and
not
overloaded.
Excessive
speed,
underinflation,
or
excessive
loading,
either
separately
or
in
com#j
bination,
can
cause
heat
buildup
and
possible
tire
failure.

tires
Do
not
drive
with
a
tire
tread
of
less
than
0.16
in/4
mm,
as
such
tires
are
less
suitable
for
winter
operation.
Minimum
tread
depth
Wear
indicators
are
distributed
around
the
tire
circumference.
They
have
the
legally
required
minimum
height
of
0.063
in/1.6
mm.
The
positions
of
the
wear
indicators
are
marked
on
the
tire
sidewall
with
TWI,
Tread
Wear
Indica#j
tor.
Tire
damage
General
information
Inspect
your
tires
regularly
for
damage,
foreign
objects
lodged
in
the
tread,
and
tread
wear.
Driving
over
rough
or
damaged
road
surfaces,
as
well
as
debris,
curbs
and
other
obstacles
can
cause
serious
damage
to
wheels,
tires
and
sus#j
pension
parts.
This
is
more
likely
to
occur
with
low-profile
tires,
which
provide
less
cushioning
between
the
wheel
and
the
road.
Be
careful
to
avoid
road
hazards
and
reduce
your
speed,

if
your
vehicle

so-called
all-season
M+S
tires
provide
better
winter
traction
than
summer

they

winter
tires.
Maximum
speed
of
winter
tires
If
the
maximum
speed
of
the
vehicle
is
higher
than
the
permissible
speed
for
the
winter
tires,
then
attach
a
label
showing
the
permissible
maxi#j
mum
speed
in
the
field
of
view.
The
label
is

able
from
a
dealer's

center
or

With
winter
tires
mounted,
observe

Filling
the
tire
with
sealant

exhaust
pipe
is
blocked
or
ventilation
is

gases

enter

vehicle.

exhaust
gases
contain

tants
which
are
colorless
and
odorless.
In

areas,
exhaust
gases
can
also

late
outside
of
the
vehicle.
There
is
danger
to

Keep
the
exhaust
pipe
free
and
ensure

ficient
ventilation.
NOTICE
The
compressor
can
overheat
during
extended
operation.

not
run

compressor

more

Filling

the
sealant
