Starter (choke) lever “ ”
Starting a cold engine requires a richer
air-fuel mixture, which is supplied by
the starter (choke).
Move the lever in direction (a) to turn on
the starter (choke).
Move the lever in direction (b) to turn
off the starter (choke).

Kickstarter
If the engine fails to start by pushing
the start switch, try to start it by using
the kickstarter. To start the engine, fold
out the kickstarter lever, move it down
lightly with your foot until the gears en-
gage, and then push it down smoothly
but forcefully.

Seat
To remove the seat
Remove the bolts, and then slide the
seat to the rear and pull upward.
To install the seat
1. Fit the slot in the seat onto the pro- jection on the fuel tank, and insert
the projection on the seat into the
seat holder as shown.
2. Place the seat in the original posi- tion, and then tighten the bolts.
TIP
Make sure that the seat is properly se-
cured before riding.

or lower it with your foot while holding
the vehicle upright.

The starting circuit cut-off system pre-
vents starting when the transmission is
in gear.
Periodically check the operation of the
starting circuit cut-off system accord-
ing to the following procedure.
TIP
This check is most reliable if performed
with a warmed-up engine.

With the engine turned off:
1. Make sure that the engine stop switch
is set to “ ”.
2.
Turn the key to “ON”.
3. Shift the transmission into gear.
5. Push the start switch. 4. Keep the front or rear brake applied.

The system is OK. The motorcycle can

schedules described in the Owner’s Manual.

Follow the same procedure as for
starting a cold engine with the excep-
tion that the starter (choke) is not re-
quired when the engine is warm.

Shiftin g
This motorcycle has a 4-speed trans-
mission with a centrifugal, automatic
clutch. Shifting gears lets you control
the amount of engine power available
for starting off, accelerating, climbing
hills, etc.
The gear positions are shown in the il-
lustration.
TIP
To shift the transmission into the neu-
tral position, press the shift pedal down
repeatedly until it reaches the end of its
travel.
