Press the switch.
All the turn signal lights will flash.
To turn them off, press the switch
once again.
■Emergency flashers
●
If the emergency flashers are used for a long time while the hy brid sys-
tem is not operating (while the “READY” indicator is not illuminated), the
12-volt battery may discharge.
●If any of the SRS airbags deploy (inflate) or in the event of a strong rear
impact, the emergency flashers will turn on automatically.
The emergency flashers will turn off automatically after operating for
approximately 20 minutes. To manually turn the emergency flashe rs off,
press the switch twice.
(The emergency flashers may not turn on automatically depending on
the force of the impact and c onditions of the collision.)
Emergency flashers
The emergency flashers are used to warn other drivers when the
vehicle has to be stopped on the road due to a breakdown, etc.

■When the tire pressure warning light comes on
Inspect the tires to check if a tire is punctured.
If a tire is punctured: P. 491
If none of the tires are punctured:
Turn the power switch off then turn it to ON mode. Check if the tire pres-
sure warning light comes on or blinks.
If the tire pressure wa rning light comes on
After the temperature of the tires has lowered sufficiently, ch eck the
inflation pressure of each tire and adjust them to the specifie d level.
If the warning light does not turn off even after several minut es have
elapsed, check that the inflation pressure of each tire is at t he specified
level and perform initialization. (P. 4 2 4 )
If the warning light does not tu rn off several minutes after the initialization
has been performed, have the vehi cle inspected by your Toyota dealer
immediately.
If the tire pressure warning light blinks fo r 1 minute then stays on
There may be a malfunction in the tire pressure warning system. Have
the vehicle inspected by you r Toyota dealer immediately.
■The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural caus es
The tire pressure warning light may come on due to natural caus es such
as natural air leaks and tire inflation pressure changes caused by tem-
perature. In this case, adjusting the tire inflation pressure w ill turn off the
warning light (afte r a few minutes).
■When a tire is replace d with a spare tire
The compact spare tire is not equipped with a tire pressure war ning valve
and transmitter. If a tire goes flat, the tire pressure warning light will not
turn off even though the flat tire has been replaced with the s pare tire.
Replace the spare tire with the repaired tire and adjust the ti re inflation
pressure. The tire pressure war ning light will go off after a few minutes.
■Conditions that the tire pressure warning system may not functi on
properly

■Electric power steering system w arning light (warning buzzer)
When the 12-volt battery charge becomes insufficient or the vol tage tempo-
rarily drops, the electric power steering system warning light may come on
and the warning buzzer may sound.
■ Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard because of noisy pla ce or an
audio sound.

■Warning messages
The warning messages explained below may differ from the actual messages
according to operation conditions and vehicle specifications.
■ System warning lights
The master warning light does not come on or flash in the following cases.
Instead, a separate system warning light will come on along wit h a message
shown on the multi-information display.
● Malfunction in the ABS
The ABS warning light comes on. ( P. 476)
● Malfunction in the brake system
The brake system warning light (yellow) comes on. ( P. 475)
● Malfunction in the tire pressure warning system
The tire pressure warning light comes on. ( P. 478)
● Remaining fuel level is low
The low fuel level warning light comes on. ( P. 478)
■ If a message instructing to refer to the Owner’s Manual is disp layed
● If the following messages are shown, there may be a malfunction .
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your T oyota dealer.
Continuing to drive the vehicle may be dangerous.
• “Low Braking Power Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual”
• “Oil Pressure Low Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Manual”
• “Charging System Malfunction Stop in a Safe Place See Owner’s Man-
ual”
● If the following message is shown, there may be a malfunction.

■If “Hybrid System Overheated Output Power Reduced” is shown
This message may be displayed when driving under severe operati ng condi-
tions. (For example, when driving up a long steep hill.)
Handling method: P. 514
■ If “Maintenance Required for Traction Battery Cooling Parts See Owner’s
Manual” is shown
The filter may be clogged, the air intake vent may be blocked or there may be
a gap in the duct.
● If the air intake vent or filter is dirty, refer to P. 444 for cleaning the air intake
vent and filter.
● If the message is being displayed and the air intake vent and f ilter are not
dirty, have the vehicle inspected at your Toyota dealer.
■ If “Traction Battery Needs to be Protected Refrain From the Use of N
Position” is shown
This message may be displayed when the shift lever is in N.
As the hybrid battery (traction battery) cannot be charged when the shift lever
is in N, shift the shift lever to P when the vehicle is stopped .
■ If “Traction Battery Needs to be Protected Shift into P to Rest art” is
shown
This message is displayed when the hybrid battery (traction battery) charge
has become extremely low because the shift lever has been left in N for a cer-
tain amount of time.
When operating the vehicle, shift to P and restart the hybrid s ystem.
■ If “Shift to P Before Exiting Vehicle” is shown
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without t urning the
power switch off with the shift lever in any position other tha n P.
Shift the shift lever to P.
■ If “Shift Is in N Release Accelerat or Before Shifting” is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been depressed and
the shift lever is in N. Release the accelerator pedal and shif t the shift lever to
D or R.
■ If “Press Brake When Vehicle Is Stopped Hybrid System May Overh eat”
is shown
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal is depressed to maintain
the vehicle position when stopped on a upward slope, etc.
If this continues, the hybrid system may overheat.
Release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.

When trouble arises
■If “Auto Power Off to Con serve Battery” is displayed
This message is displayed when the power was cut off due to the automatic
power off function.
The next time the hybrid system is started, increase the engine speed slightly
and maintain it at that speed for approximately 5 minutes to re charge the 12-
volt battery.
■ If “A New Key has been Registered Contact Your Dealer for Detai ls” is
displayed
This message will be displayed each time the driver’s door is opened when
the doors are unlocked from the outside for approximately one week after a
new electronic key has been registered.
If this message is displayed but you have not had a new electro nic key regis-
tered, ask your Toyota dealer to check if an unknown electronic key (other
than those in your possession) has been registered.
■ When “Headlight System Malfunction Visit Your Dealer” is displa yed
The following systems may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle i nspected by
your Toyota dealer immediately.
● The LED headlight system
● The automatic headlight leveling system (if equipped)
● Automatic High Beam
● AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) (if equipped)
■ “Front Camera Unavailable” or “F ront Camera Vision Blocked Clean and
Demist Windshield” is displayed
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown in the
message is resolved. ( P. 262, 475)
● PCS (Pre-Collision System)
● LDA (Lane Departure Alert with steering control)
● Dynamic radar cruise control with full-speed range
● Automatic High Beam
■ If “Maintenance Required Soon” is displayed
Indicates that all maintenance according to the driven distance on the mainte-
nance schedule
* should be performed soon.
Comes on approximately 4500 miles (7200 km) after the message has been
reset.
If necessary, perform maintenance. Please reset the message aft er the main-
tenance is performed. ( P. 399)

■If “Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer” is displayed
Indicates that all maintenance is required to correspond to the driven distance
on the maintenance schedule

Comes on approximately 5000 miles (8000 km) after the message has been
reset.
(The indicator will not work properly unless the message has been reset.)
Perform the necessary maintenance. Please reset the message aft er the
maintenance is performed. ( P. 399)

■ If “Engine Oil Level Low Add or Replace” is displayed
The engine oil level may be low. Check the level of the engine oil, and add
engine oil if necessary. This message may be displayed if the vehicle is
stopped on a slope. Move the vehicle to a level surface and che ck if the mes-
sage disappears.
■ Warning buzzer

■It “High Power Consumption Power to Climate Temporarily Limited” is
frequently shown
There is a possible malfunction relating to the charging system or the 12-
volt battery may be deteriorating. Have the vehicle inspected b y your Toyota
dealer.
■ If “Have Traction Battery Inspected” is shown (AXVH70 model
*)
The hybrid battery (traction battery) is scheduled to be inspected or
replaced. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer imme diately.
● Continuing to drive the vehicle without having the hybrid batte ry (traction
battery) inspected will cause the hybrid system not to start.
● If the hybrid system does not start, contact your Toyota dealer immedi-
ately.

5027-2. Steps to take in an emergency
One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The electronic key may not be functioning properly. (P. 505)
● There may not be sufficient f uel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
● There may be a mal function in the immobilizer system.
(  P. 90)
● There may be a malfunction i n the steering lock system.
● The hybrid system may be malfunc tioning due to an electrical prob-
lem such as electronic key battery depletion or a blown fuse. H ow-
ever, depending on the type of malfunction, an interim measure is
available to start the hybrid system. ( P. 503)
● AXVH70 model
* only: The temperature of the hybrid battery (traction
battery) may be extremely low ( below approximately -22°F [-30°C]).

One of the following may be the cause of the problem:
● The 12-volt battery may be discharged. ( P. 507)
● The 12-volt battery terminal conn ections may be loose or corroded.

If the hybrid system will not start
Reasons for the hybrid system not starting vary depending on
the situation. Check the followi ng and perform the appropriate
procedure:
The hybrid system will not start even though the correct starting
procedure is being followed. ( P. 2 0 8 )
The interior lights and headlights are dim, or the horn does no t
sound or sounds at a low volume.
