N00401601251
Your vehicle has seat
belts and other safety
features that help protect you and your pas- sengers in an accident.Seat belts are the most important safety device. When worn properly, seat belts can reduce the chance of serious injury or deathin various types of crashes. For added protec- tion during a severe fr
ontal collision, your
vehicle has a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) with airbags for the driver and passen- gers. The seats, head restraints, and doorlocks also are safety equipment, which must be used correctly. Always check the following before you drive: That everyone in your vehicle is properly wearing their seat belt. That infants and small children are prop- erly secured in an appropriate child restraint system in the rear seat. That all doors are fully closed and locked. That seatbacks are upright, with head restraints properly adjusted.
Safety equipment cannot prevent injury or death in all motor ve
hicle accidents. How-
ever, you can help reduce the risk of injury or death, by following the instructions in thismanual.
N00401801497
Position the driver’s seat
as far back as possi-
ble while maintaining a position that stillenables you to fully apply the pedals, easily control the steering wh
eel and safely operate
the vehicle.
Seats and restraint systems
WA R N I N G Do not place objects under the seats. This could prevent the seat from lockingsecurely, and it could
lead to an accident.
It may also cause damage to the seat or other parts.
Front seats
WA R N I N G Do not attempt to adjust the seat while driving. This can cause loss of vehicle con- trol and result
in an accident.
Manual seat adjustment
Power seat adjustment
After adjusting the seat, make sure that it is securely locked into position. To reduce the risk to the driver of serious injury or death duri
ng deployment of the
driver’s airbag, always
properly wear the
seat belt and adjust th
e driver’s seat as far
back as possible while maintaining a posi- tion that still enables
you to fully apply the
pedals, easily control the steering wheel, and safely operate the vehicle. To reduce the risk to the front passenger of serious injury or
death during deploy-
ment of the passeng
er’s airbag, always
properly wear the seat
belt and adjust the
front passenger’s seat as far back as possi- ble. Always place childr
en 12 years old and
under in the rear seat
and use appropriate
child restraint systems.CAUTION Make sure that the seat is adjusted by an adult. If it is adjusted by a child, an unex- pected accident might occur. Do not place a cushion
or the like between
your back and the seatback while driving. The effectiveness of the head restraints will be reduced in the event of an accident. When sliding the seat
s, be careful not to
catch your hand or leg.WA R N I N G

After approximately 30
minutes has elapsed
with the operation mode
in ACC, the function
automatically cuts out the power for the audio system and other electr
ic devices that can be
operated with that mode. When the engine switch is pressed while the operation mode is in AC
C, the power is sup-
plied again to those devices.
CAUTION When the engine is not running, put the oper- ation mode in OFF. Leaving the operationmode in ON or ACC for a long time whenthe engine is not running may cause the bat- tery to be discharged, making it impossible to start the engine. When the battery is disconnected, the current operation mode is memo
rized. After recon-
necting the battery, the memorized mode is selected automaticall
y. Before disconnect-
ing the battery for re
pair or replacement,
make sure to put the operation mode in OFF. Be careful if you are not sure which opera- tion mode the vehicle is in when the batteryis run down. The operation mode cannot be changed from OFF to ACC or ON if the F.A.S.T.-key is not detected to be in the
vehicle. Refer to “Oper-
ating range for star
ting the engine and
changing the operation mode” on page 5-17. When there is the F.A.S.T.-key in the vehicle and the operation mode
is not changed, the
battery in the F.A.S.T.-key may have worn out.Refer to “Warning acti
vation” on page 5-22.
NOTE
If the operation mode
cannot be changed to
OFF, perform the following procedure. 1. Move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position, and then change the operation mode to OFF.
2. One of the other causes could be low bat- tery voltage. If this
occurs, the keyless
entry system, the F.A.S.T.-key operationand steering wheel lock (if so equipped) will also not operate. Contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer.
ACC power auto-cutout function
NOTE
It is possible to modify functions as follows: • The time until the power cuts out can be changed to approximately 60 minutes. • The ACC power auto
-cutout function can
be deactivated.NOTE
For details, we reco
mmend you to consult an
authorized Mitsubish
i Motors dealer.
On vehicles equipped with the Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA
), screen operations
can be used to make the adjustment. Refer to the separate owner’s manual fordetails.NOTE

After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditio
ning blower and rear
window defogger, are turned off.2. While depressing the brake pedal, press the accelerator peda
l halfway and hold it
there, then crank th
e engine. Release the
accelerator pedal, immediately after the engine starts.
3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline. While depressing the brake pedal, push the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, then press the engineswitch to crank the engine. If the engine does not start after 5 to 6 seconds, push the engine switch
to stop cranking the
engine, and release th
e accelerator pedal.
Put the operation mode in OFF. Wait a few seconds, and then press the engine switch to crank the engine again while depressing the brake pedal, but do notpush the accelerator
pedal. If the engine
fails to start, repeat
these procedures. If
the engine still will
not start, contact your
local Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choi
ce for assistance.
Startability of the engine with an ambient temperature of -22 °F (-30 °C) or lowerWhen the ambient temperature is -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower, it may not be possible to start from a standstill even with the selector leverin the “D” (DRIVE) or “R” (REVERSE) position. This phenomenon occurs because the trans-axle has not warmed up sufficiently; it does not indicate a problem.
If this occurs, place
the selector lever in the “P” (PARK) positionand let the engine idle for at least 10 minutes.
The transaxle will wa
rm up, and you will be
able to start normally.Do not leave the vehicle during warm-up operation. The MIVEC engine automatically switches its intake-valve control between a low-speed mode and a high-speed mode in accordance with driving conditions for maximum engine performance.
N00568201024
NOTE
Minor noises may be heard on engine start- up. These will disappear as the engine warmsup.
When the engine is hard to start
Using the MIVEC engine
NOTE
To protect the engine
, the high-speed mode
may not be selected wh
ile the engine coolant
temperature is low. In such a case, the engine revolutions do not rise to over 5,000 rpm even if the accelerato
r pedal is depressed.
Stopping the engine
WA R N I N GDo not operate the en
gine switch while
driving except in an emergency. If theengine is stopped while driving, the brake servomechanism will ce
ase to function and
braking efficiency will deteriorate. Also, the power steering system will not func- tion and it will require greater manual effort to operate the steering. This couldresult in a serious accident.
