1. Before replacing the battery, remove static electricity from your body by touching ametal grounded object. 2. Remove the screw (A) from the remote control transmitter. 3. With the Mitsubishi mark facing you, insert the cloth-covere
d tip of a flat blade
screwdriver into the notch in the remotecontrol transmitter case and use it to open the case.
4. Remove the used battery. 5. Install a new battery with the + side (B) up.
• Keep new and used batteries away from children.• If the remote control transmitter case does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children.• If you think batter

person’s body, seek immediate medical attention.

The Free-hand Advanced Security Transmit- ter (F.A.S.T.-key) enables the doors to be locked and unlocked, the trunk lid to beopened, and the engine to be started and the operation mode to be changed simply by car- rying it.The F.A.S.T.-key can also be used as the remote control transmitter of the keyless entry system.Refer to “Free-hand

When a person enters the operating range of the F.A.S.T.-key while carrying the F.A.S.T.- key and presses the driver’s door lock/unlock switch the trunk lid ope
n switch, verification
of the ID code is performed. The doors can only be locked and unlocked, the trunk lid can only be opened, the enginecan only be started and the operation mode can only be changed when the ID codes of the vehicle and F.A.S.T.-key match.
The operating range is
within about 2.3 feet
(70 cm) of the driver’s door lock/unlockswitch and the trunk lid open switch.
NOTE
 The F.A.S.T.-key uses weak electromagnetic waves. In cases such as the following, operationmay be improper or unstable. • The vehicle is near a facility that emits strong electromagnetic
waves, such as a TV
transmitting tower, a pow
er station, a radio
station or an airport • The key is carried together with other com- munication devices such
as cellular phones
or radios, or electrical appliances such as computers • The F.A.S.T.-key touches or is covered by a metal object • A keyless entry system is being used nearby • The battery of the F.A.S.T.-key is run down • The vehicle is in
a location with strong
electromagnetic
waves or noise
Use the emergency key in such circum- stances.Refer to “To operate without using theF.A.S.T.-key” on page 5-19.  The F.A.S.T.-key is constantly performing reception operations
in its communication
with the vehicle. This means that the battery is always running down, regardless of howoften the F.A.S.T.-key is used. The battery life is about 1 to 2 years, depending on the usage conditions.  Since the F.A.S.T.-key is constantly perform- ing reception operati
ons, the reception of
strong electromagnetic
waves can accelerate
the running down of the ba
ttery. Do not place
near to electrical appliances such as televi-sions or computers.

While carrying the F.A.S.T.-key within the operating range, you can unlock the doors by using the F.A.S.T.-key.The dome light will turn on for 30 seconds. The turn signal lights will blink twice and the buzzer will
sound twice.
Also refer to “Door locks”, “Power door locks” on pages 5-25 and 5-27 respectively. Press the driver’s door lock/unlock switch (A) to unlock only the driver’s door. Within about 2 seconds, press the driver’s door lock/unlock switch one more time tounlock all the doors.
NOTE
 In cases such as the following, the F.A.S.T.- key does not operate. • There is a F.A.S.T.-key in the passenger compartment • A door is open or ajar • The operation mode
is not in OFF.
 The time within which locking confirmation is possible can be adjusted. See an autho-rized Mitsubishi Motors
dealer for details.

The indicator light on the engine switch illu- minates orange. All electrical accessories can be used. The indicator light on the engine switch illu- minates green. The indicator light turns off when the engineis running.

switch without press-
ing the brake pedal {continuously variable transmission (CVT)} or the clutch pedal (manual transaxle) while the vehicle is sta-tionary, you can change the operation mode in the order of OFF, ACC, ON, OFF.

for approximately 30 minutes, the ACCpower auto-cutout fu
nction automatically
cuts power to the audio system and other electronic devices that
can be used during
ACC operation mode. To enable power after ACC power auto-cut- out function, press the
engine switch while in

Changing the operation mode

CAUTION When the engine is not running, put the oper- ation mode in OFF. Leaving the operationmode in ON or ACC for a long time when the engine is not running may cause the bat- tery to be discharged, making it impossibleto start the engine.  When the battery is disconnected, the current operation mode is memo
rized. After recon-
necting the battery, the memorized mode is selected automaticall
y. Before disconnect-
ing the battery for re
pair or replacement,
make sure to put the operation mode in OFF. Be careful if you are not sure which opera-tion mode the vehicle is in when the battery is run down. The operation mode cannot be changed from OFF to ACC or ON if the F.A.S.T.-key is not detected to be in the
vehicle. Refer to “Oper-
ating range for star
ting the engine and
changing the operation mode” on page 5-11.
NOTE
 If the operation mode cannot be changed to OFF, perform the following procedure. 1. Move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position, and then change the operation mode to OFF. (for vehicleswith continuously variable transmission (CVT)) 2. One of the other causes could be low bat- tery voltage. If this
occurs, the keyless
entry system and the F.A.S.T.-key opera-tion will also not
operate. Contact an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.

With the F.A.S.T.-key, warnings are given through buzzers and displayed symbols in order to prevent mistaken operations or vehi-cle theft. When a warning operates, be sure to check the vehicle and the F.A.S.T.-key. A warning isalso shown if there is a problem in the F. A . S . T. - k e y. If the following warning shows, contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.
If the following warnings show, the light goes off if the correct action is taken.  The ID codes of the F.A.S.T.-key and the vehicle cannot be verified  All the doors cannot be locked even when the driver’s door lock/unlock switch ispressed.
