To read data recorded by an event datarecorder, special equipment is required, andaccess to the vehicle or the event datarecorder is needed. In addition to the vehiclemanufacturer, other parties, such as lawenforcement, that have such specialequipment, can read the information if theyhave access to the vehicle or the event datarecorder.
Comfort, Convenience andEntertainment Data
Your vehicle has electronic control units thathave the ability to store data based on yourpersonalized settings. The data is storedlocally in the vehicle or on devices that youconnect to it, for example, a USB drive ordigital music player. You can delete some ofthis data and also choose whether to shareit through the services to which yousubscribe. See Settings (page 445).
Comfort and Convenience Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Seat and steering wheel position.
•Climate control settings.
•Radio presets.
Entertainment Data
Data recorded includes, for example:
•Music, videos or album art.
•Contacts and corresponding addressbook entries.

If you use our services, we collect and usedata, for example account information,vehicle location and driving characteristics,that could identify you. We transmit this datathrough a dedicated, protected connection.We only collect and use data to enable youruse of our services to which you havesubscribed, with your consent or wherepermitted by law. Vehicles With a Modem
The modem has a SIM. The modemperiodically sends messages to stayconnected to the cell phone network. Thesemessages could include information thatidentifies your vehicle, the SIM and theelectronic serial number of the modem. Cellphone network service providers could haveaccess to additional information, for examplecell phone network tower identification.
Note:The modem continues to send thisinformation unless you have all added valueservices deactivated. Contact the FordCustomer Relationship Center. Refer to theregional Ford website for contactinformation.

Left-hand Temperature Control
Adjusts the temperature setting on theleft-hand side. This control also adjusts theright-hand side temperature when you switchoff dual zone mode.
Fan Speed Control
Adjusts the volume of air circulated in thevehicle.
Right-hand Temperature Control
Adjusts the temperature setting on theright-hand side.
MAX A/C
Press for maximum cooling. The left-handand right-hand settings set to LO,recirculated air flows through the instrumentpanel vents, air conditioning turns on andthe fan adjusts to the highest speed.
A/C
Press to switch the air conditioning on or off.Use A/C with recirculated air to improvecooling performance and efficiency.
Note:In certain conditions (for example,maximum defrost), the air conditioningcompressor may continue to operate eventhough you switch off the air conditioning.
Recirculated Air
Press to switch between outside air andrecirculated air. The air currently in thepassenger compartment recirculates. Thismay reduce the time needed to cool theinterior (when used with A/C) and reduceunwanted odors from entering your vehicle.
Note:Recirculated air may turn off (orprevent you from switching on) in all air flowmodes except MAX A/C to reduce the riskof fogging. Recirculation may also turn onand off in various air distribution controlcombinations during hot weather in order toimprove cooling efficiency.

Press to cycle through the various heatsettings and off. See Heated Seats (page145).
Climate Controlled Seats (If Equipped)
Press to cycle through the various settingsand off. See Climate Controlled Seats (page147).

Climate Control

Dual
Press to switch on temperature control forthe right-hand side of the vehicle. When dualzone is off, right-hand temperature settingsremain the same as the left-hand settings.
Auto
Press to switch on automatic operation.Adjust to select the desired temperature. Fanspeed, air distribution, air conditioningoperation, and outside or recirculated airadjust to heat or cool the vehicle to maintainthe desired temperature. You can also switchoff dual zone mode by pressing and holdingfor more than two seconds.
Power
Press to switch the system on and off. Whenthe system is off, it prevents outside air fromentering the vehicle.
Defrost
Press to distribute air through the windshieldair vents and de-mister. Air directed to theinstrument panel and footwell air vents turnsoff. You can also use this setting to defogand clear the windshield of a thin coveringof ice.
Heated Rear Window
Press to switch the heated rear window onand off. See Heated Rear Window (page135).
HINTS ON CONTROLLING THE
INTERIOR CLIMATE
General Hints
Note:Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to fog up.
Note:You may feel a small amount of airfrom the footwell air vents regardless of theair distribution setting.
Note:To reduce humidity build-up insideyour vehicle, do not drive with the systemswitched off or with recirculated air alwaysswitched on.
Note:Do not place objects under the frontseats as this may interfere with the airflowto the rear seats.
Note:Remove any snow, ice or leaves fromthe air intake area at the base of thewindshield.
Note:To improve the time to reach acomfortable temperature in hot weather,drive with the windows open until you feelcold air through the air vents.
Automatic Climate Control
Note:Adjusting the settings when yourvehicle interior is extremely hot or cold is notnecessary.
Note:The system adjusts to heat or cool theinterior to the temperature you select asquickly as possible.
Note:For the system to function efficiently,the instrument panel and side air ventsshould be fully open.

Note:If you select AUTO during cold outsidetemperatures, the system directs air flow tothe windshield and side window air vents. Inaddition, the blower motor may run at aslower speed until the engine warms up.
Note:If you select AUTO during hottemperatures and the inside of the vehicleis hot, the system uses recirculated air tomaximize interior cooling. Blower motorspeed may also reduce until the air cools.
Quickly Heating the Interior
1. Press and release AUTO.
2. Adjust the temperature function to thesetting you prefer.

HEATED WINDSHIELD (If Equipped)
Windshield Wiper De-Icer
When you switch the heated rearwindow on, the windshield wiperde-icer turns on.
HEATED REAR WINDOW
Press the button to clear the rearwindow of thin ice and fog. Theheated rear window turns off aftera short period of time.
Note:Make sure the engine is on beforeoperating the heated windows.
Note: Do not use razor blades or othersharp objects to clean or remove decals fromthe inside of the heated rear window. Thevehicle Warranty may not cover damagecaused to the heated rear window grid lines.
HEATED EXTERIOR MIRRORS
When you switch the heated rear windowon, the heated exterior mirrors turn on.
Note:Do not remove ice from the mirrorswith a scraper or adjust the mirror glasswhen it is frozen in place.
Note:Do not clean the mirror housing orglass with harsh abrasives, fuel or otherpetroleum-based cleaning products.

CABIN AIR FILTER
The cabin air filter is under the instrumentpanel in the passenger footwell area orunder the center console on the passengerside.
The system filters airborne particles such asdust, spores and pollen in the air supplied toand recirculated in the interior of yourvehicle.
Make sure you have a cabin air filter installedat all times. Running the system without afilter in place could degrade or damage thesystem.
Your vehicle cabin air filter gives you andyour passengers the following benefits:
•It improves your driving comfort byreducing particle concentration.
•It improves the interior compartmentcleanliness.
•It protects the climate controlcomponents from particle deposits.
Change the air filter element at the properintervals. See Scheduled Maintenance(page 487).
For additional cabin air filter information, orto replace the filter, see an authorized dealer.
REMOTE START
The system adjusts the interior temperaturedepending on your chosen settings duringremote start.
You cannot adjust the climate control settingduring remote start operation. When youswitch the ignition on, the climate controlsystem returns to the previous settings. Youcan now make adjustments.
Some features may remain on if they turn onduring remote start:
•Driver heated seat.
•Driver ventilated seat.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Heated mirrors.
•Heated rear window.
•Windshield wiper de-icer.
Note:If the passenger heated or ventilatedseats are on when you switch the vehicleoff, they default to the driver setting whenyou switch the vehicle on.
You can adjust the default remote startsettings using the information displaycontrols. See Information Displays (page108).
Automatic Settings
In hot weather, the system sets to 72°F(22°C). The ventilated seats set to high (ifavailable, and if you select AUTO in theinformation display).
In moderate weather, the system heats orcools (based on pre-selected settings). Therear defroster, heated mirrors and heated orventilated seats do not turn on.
In cold weather, the system sets to 72°F(22°C). The heated seats and heated steeringwheel set to high (if available, and if youselect AUTO in the information display). Therear defroster and heated mirrors turn on.

Heated Seats
WARNING: People who are unable tofeel pain to their skin because of advancedage, chronic illness, diabetes, spinal cordinjury, medication, alcohol use, exhaustionor other physical conditions, must usecaution when using the heated seat. Theheated seat may cause burns even at lowtemperatures, especially if used for longperiods of time. Do not place anything onthe seat that may block the heat, such as ablanket or cushion. This can cause theheated seat to overheat. Do not puncturethe seat with pins, needles or other pointedobjects. This damages the heating elementand can cause the heated seat to overheat.An overheated seat may cause seriouspersonal injury.
Do not do the following:
•Place heavy objects on the seat.
•Operate the seat heater if water or anyother liquid spills on the seat. Allow theseat to dry thoroughly.
Note:The heated seats only function whenthe engine is running.

Note:After 90 minutes of operation, theheated seats switch off. Press the heatedseat symbol to switch the heated seats on.
Note:Depending on your remote startsettings, the heated seats may remain onafter you remote start your vehicle. Theheated seats may also turn on when youstart your vehicle if they were on when yourvehicle was turned off.
