ambient light.
RIf th e windshield in the area of multifunction
camera 1is dirty, fogged up, damaged or
co vered.
RIfth ero ad sur face has no optic stru cture or
re flects light.
RIf th e dis tance totheve hicle in front is too
short.
RIf sections of thero ute ha veave ry small
ra dius of cur vature.
RIn dynamic driving maneu ver,e.g. if you
accelerate or brake theve hicle sharply.
RAt speeds below 5 mph (7 km/h) or abo ve

If th ere is no operational readiness, thefo llowing

Sy stem limitations
The rear view camera will not function or will
only pa rtially function in thefo llowing situations:
RThe trunk lid is open.
RThere is heavy rain, snow or fog.
RThe ambient light is poor, e.g. at night.
RThe camera lens is obstructed, dirty or fog‐
ge d up. Obser vethe no tes on cleaning the
re ar view camera (
→page 389).
RThe camera or rear of your vehicle is dam‐
aged. In this case, ha vethe camera and its
position and setting checked at a qualified
specialist workshop.
The field of vision and other functions of there ar
view camera may be restricted due toadditional
accessori es onthere ar of theve hicle (e.g.
license plate brac ket or bicycle rack ).
% The contrast of the display may be impaired
by direct sunlight or by other light sources,
e.g. when driving out of a garage . In this
case, pay particular attention.

RCameras, or vehicle components in which
th e cameras are ins talled, are damaged. In
th is eve nt, ha vethe cameras, their positions
and their setting checked at a qualified spe‐
cialist workshop.
Do not use the 360° Camera under such circum‐
st ances. You could otherwise injure others or
collide with objects when parking theve hicle.
On vehicles with height-adjus table suspension or
if th eve hicle is car rying a heavy load, leaving the
st andard height can result in inaccuracies in the
guide lines and in the display of thege nerated
ima ges, depending on tech nical conditions.
The field of vision and other functions of the

Active Parking Assist
Fu nction of Active Parking Assist
Ac tive Parking Assist is an elect ronic pa rking
assis tance sy stem which uses ultrasound and is
automatically activated during forw ard tra vel.
The sy stem is operational at speeds of up to
appr oximately 22 mph (35 km/h). When all the
conditions are ful filled, thec symbol appears
in the multifunction display and the sy stem auto‐
matically sear ches for and measu res parking
spaces on bo thsides of theve hicle parallel and
perpendicular tothe direction of tra vel. If Active
Pa rking Assist is activated, suitable parking
spaces are displa yed in the multimedia sy stem.

% As infrared light is not visible tothe human
ey e, Night View Assist canremain activated
when there is oncoming traf fic.
The infrared headlamps switch on in the
dark from speeds of appr oximately 5 mph
(10 km/h). This means that, while station‐
ar y, yo udo not ha vethe full visual range and
cannot check whe ther Night View Assist is
wo rking.
Sy stem limitations
Night View Assist cannot displ ayobjects directly
in front of or directly next totheve hicle. It may
be the case that objects are highlighted as well
as pedestrians or animals.
The sy stem may be impaired or may not function
in thefo llowing ins tances:
RPo or visibility, e.g. sno w,rain, fog or spr ay.
RThe windshield is dirty in the vicinity of the
came ra.
RThe camera is fogged up, damaged or cov‐
ered.
RThe infrared camera in thera diator grill is
damaged, dirty, fogged up or co vered.
ROn bends, on hilltops or in dips.
RAt high ambient temp eratures.
Pe destrian and animal de tection byNight
Vi ew Assist
Night View Assist can de tect pedestrians using
typical characteristics, e.g. the body conto urs
and posture of a person standing upright.
Lar geanimals, such as deer, co wsor horses can
also be de
tecte
d. Small animals such as dogs or
cats are not de tected.
Pe destrian and animal de tection is au tomatical ly
switched on when thefo llowing requ irements
are fulfilled:

RHeavy rain, snow or fog
Driving sy stems and driving saf etysy stems may be malfunctioning or temp orarily una vailable.
Once the cause of the problem is no longer present, driving sy stems and driving saf etysy stems are available again.
If th e display message does not disappear:
#Pull over and stop theve hicle safely as soon as possible, paying attention toroad and traf fic conditions.

Overview of warning and indicator lamps
Some sy stems per form a self-test when the igni‐
tion is switched on. Some warning and indicator
lamps may briefly light up or flash. This behavior
is non-critical. These warning and indicator
lamps only indicate a malfunction if they light up
or flash af terth e engine is star ted or during a
journe y.
