The re st ra int sy st em can re duce th e ri sk of ve hi‐
cle occupants coming into contact with parts of
th e ve hicle interior in th e eve nt of an accident. In
th e ev ent of an accident, th e re st ra int sy st em
can also re duce th e fo rc es to which th e ve hicle
occupants are subjected.
A seat belt can only pr ov ide th e best le ve l of pro‐
te ction if it is wo rn cor re ctl y. Depending on th e
de te cted accident situation, Emergency Te nsion‐
ing Devices and/or air bags supplement th e pro‐
te ction of fe re d by a cor re ctly wo rn seat belt.
Emer ge ncy Te nsioning Devices and/or air bags
are not depl oy ed in eve ry accident. In order fo r th e re st ra int sy st em to pr ov ide th e
intended le ve l of pr ot ection, each ve hicle occu‐
pant must obser ve th e fo llowing information:R
Fa st en seat belts cor re ctl y.R
Sit in an almost up ri ght seat position with
th eir back against th e seat backrest.R
Sit with th eir fe et re st ing on th e fl oor, if pos‐
sible. R
Alw ay s secure persons under 5 ft (1.50 m)
ta ll in an additional re st ra int sy st em suitable
fo r Mercedes-Benz ve hicles.
Ho we ve r, no sy st em av ailable to day can com‐
ple te ly elimin ate in juries and fa ta lit
ies in eve ry
accident situation. In particular, th e seat belt
and air bag ge nerally do not pr ot ect against
objects penetrating th e ve hicle from th e outside.
It is also not possible to compl et ely ru le out th e
