Sy stem limitations
Objects located abo veor below the de tection
ra nge of Active Parking Assist are not de tected
when the parking space is being measured.
These are also not take n into account when the
parking maneuver is calculated, e.g. overhanging
loads, overhangs or loading ramp s of truc ksor
th e boundaries of parking spaces. In some cir‐
cums tances, Active Parking Assist may therefore
guide you into the parking space prematurely.

If th ere are objects abo veor below the
de tection range, thefo llowing situations may
arise:
RAc tive Parking Assist may steer too early.
RVe hicles with automatic transmis‐
sion: Thevehicle may not stop in front of
th ese objects.
This could cause a collision.
#In these situations, do not use Active
Pa rking Assist.
Sn owfa ll or heavy rain may lead toa parking
space being measured inaccuratel y.Pa rking
spaces that are partial lyoccupied bytrailer
dr aw bars might not be identified as such or be
measured incor rectly. Only use Active Parking
Assist on le vel, high-grip ground.
Do no t useActive Parking Assist in thefo llowing
situations:
RIn extreme weather conditions such as ice,
pac ked snow or in heavy rain.
RIfyo u are transporting a load that pr otru des
be yond theve hicle.
RIfth e parking space is on a steep downhill or
uphill gradient.
RIf yo u ha veinstalled snow chains. Ac
tive Parking Assist may also display parking
spaces that are not suitable for parking, e.g.:
RPa rking spaces where parking is prohibited.
RPa rking spaces on unsuitable sur faces.
Ac tive Parking Assist will not assist youwit h
parking spaces at right angles tothe direction of
tr ave l in thefo llowing situations:
RIf two parking spaces are located immedi‐
ately next toeach other.
RIfth e parking space is directly next toa low
obs tacle such as a low curb.
Ac tive Parking Assist will not assist you with
parking spaces at right angles tothe direction of
tr ave l in thefo llowing situat ions:
RIf
th e parking space is on a curb.
RIfth e parking space is bordered byan obs ta‐
cle, e.g. a tree, a post or a traile r.

While parking or exiting a parking space, the
ve hicle swings out and can drive onto areas
of the oncoming lane.

or other road users.

On completion ofthe parking procedure, the
Parking Assist Finished, Take Control of Vehicle
display message appears. Further maneuvering
may still be necessar y.
#After completion of the parking procedure,
safeguard theve hicle against rolling away.
When requ ired bylegal requirements or local
conditions: turn the wheels towa rdsth e curb.
% You can stop theve hicle and change the
transmission position du ring the parking pro‐
cedure. The sy stem then calculates a new
ve hicle path. The parking procedure can
th en be continued. If no new vehicle path is
av ailable, the transmission position will be
ch anged again. If theve hicle has not yet
re ached the parking space, the parking pro‐
cedure will be canceled, should a gear be
ch anged.
Exiting a pa rking space with Active Parking
Assist
Re quirements:
Yo u can only exit a parking space with Active
Pa rking Assist if you ha veprev iously par kedth e
ve hicle with Active Parking Assist. Please no
tethat you are responsible forth eve hi‐
cle and sur roundings during the entire parking
procedure.

Drive AwayAssist canreduce the se verity of an
impact when pulling away. If an obs tacle is
de tected in the direction of tra vel,th eve hicle's
speed is briefly reduced toappr ox. 1 mph
(2 km/h). If a critical situation is de tected, the È
symbol appears onthe camera image of
th e multimedia sy stem.

limited de tection per form ance of Drive
Aw ayAssist
Drive AwayAssist cannot al ways clearly iden‐
tify objects and traf fic situations.
In such cases, Drive AwayAssist might:
RWarnyouwit hout reason and limit the
ve hicle speed.
RNot warnyou or not limit theve hicle
speed.
#Alw ays pay careful attention tothe traf‐
fi c situation; do not rely on Driv eAw ay
Assist alone.
#Be prepared tobrake or swer veas nec‐

permits and that it is safe totake eva‐
sive action.
Drive AwayAssist is only an aid. It is not a sub‐
st itute foryo ur attention tothe sur roundings.

Theresponsibility for safe maneu vering and
pa rking remains with you. Make sure that no
persons, animals or objects etc. are in the
maneu vering range.
A risk of a collision may arise in thefo llowing sit‐
uations, forex ample:
RIfth e driver mixes up the accelera tor and
brake pedals.
RIf th e wrong gear is selecte d.
The Drive AwayAssist function is active under
th efo llowing conditions:

Ve hicles with Blind Spot Assis t:Dr ivers can
also be warned of any crossing tra ffic when
backing up out of a parking space. If a critical
situation is de tected, a symbol appea rsinthe
multimedia sy stem displa y.Ifth e driver does not
re spond tothewa rning, theve hicle's brakes can
be applied automatically. Todo this, thefunct
ion
uses thera dar sensors in the bumper. The area
adjacent totheve hicle is continually monitored.
If th era dar sensors are obstructed byvehicles
or other objects, de tection is not possible.
The Cross Traf fic Alert function is acti veunder
th efo llowing conditions:
RIf Blind Spot Assist is activated.
RIf th eve hicle is backing up at walking pace.
RIfth e maneuvering assis tance function is
acti vated in the multimedia sy stem. Sy

The Cross Traf fic Alert function is not available

ATTENTION ASSIST
Fu nction of ATTENTION ASSIST
AT TENTION ASSIST assists you on long, mon oto‐
nous journe ys, e.g. on highw ays and trunk roads.
If AT TENTION ASSIST de tects indicators of fati‐
gue or increasing lapses in concentration on the
part of the driver, it suggests taking a brea k.
AT TENTION ASSIST is only an aid. It cann ot
alw ays de tect fatigue or lapses in concentration
in time. The sy stem is not a substitute for a well-
re sted and attentive driver. On long journe ys,
ta ke regular breaks in good time that allow for
adequate recuperation.

You can choose between two settings.
RStandard: normal sy stem sensitivity.
RSensitive: higher system sensitivity. The
driver is warned earlier and the attention
le ve l de tected byATTENTION ASSIST is adap‐
te d according ly.
If dr owsiness or increasing lapses in concentra‐
tion are de tected, theATTENTION ASSIST: Take
a Break! warning appears in the Instrument Dis‐
pla y.Yo u can ackn owledge the message and
tak e a break where necessar y.Ifyo udo not take
a break and ATTENTION ASSIST continues to
de tect increasing lapses in concentration, you
will be warned again af ter a minimum of
15 minutes.
You can ha vethefo llowing status information for
AT TENTION ASSIST displa yed in the assis tance
menu of the on-board computer:
RThe length of the journey since the last
break.
RThe attention le vel de term ined byATTENTION
ASSIS T.
If AT TENTION ASSIST is unable tocalculate the
attention le vel and cannot issue a warning, the
System Suspended messageappears.
If a warning is given in the Instrument Displa y,
th e multimedia sy stem of fers to sear chfor a rest
area. You can select a rest area and start naviga‐ tion
tothis rest area. This function can be activa‐
te d and deactivated in the multimedia sy stem.
If AT TENTION ASSIST is deactivated, theé
symbol appears in the assis tance graphic in the
Instrument Display when the engine is running.
AT TENTION ASSIST is activated automatically
when the engine is re-sta rted. The last selected
sensitivity le velre mains stored.
Sy stem limitations
AT TENTION ASSIST is active in the37 mph
(60 km/h) to124mp h (200 km/h) speed range.
The functionality of ATTENTION ASSIST is
re stricted, and warnings may be dela yed or not
occur at all in thefo llowing situations:RIf yo u ha vebeen driving for less than 30
minutes.
RIf th ero ad condition is poor (une venro ad
sur face or po tholes).
RIfth ere is a strong side wind.
RIfyo u adopt a sporty driving style (high cor‐
nering speeds or high rates of acceleration).
RIfth eSt eering Assist function of Active Dis‐
ta nce Assist DISTRONIC is acti ve.

RIfth e time has been set incor rectly.
RIn acti vedriving situations, if youch ange
lanes and vary your speed frequentl y.
The ATTENTION ASSIST tiredness or alertness
assessment is dele ted and restar ted when con‐
tinuing the journey in thefo llowing situations:
RIf yo uswit choff the engine.
RIfyo u unfas tenyo ur seat beltand open the
driver's door (e.g. changing drivers or taking
a break).

Fu nction of Traf fic Sign Assist
Tr af fic Sign Assist is only an aid. It cannot alw ays
re liably de tect the maximum permissible speed
and the applicable traf fic signs. The driver is
re sponsible for complying with the applicable
tra ffic regulations.

Traf fic Sign Assist detects traf fic signs wi thmul‐
tifunction camera 1and assist syo uby display‐
ing de tected speed limits and overtaking restric‐
tions in the instrument clus ter.The camera also
de tects traf fic signs wi thare striction indicated
by an additional sign (e.g. in wet conditions).
Wa rning when the maximum permissible
speed is exceeded
The sy stem can warnyouif yo u unin tentional ly
exc eed the maximum permissible speed. Todo
th is, you can specify inthe multimedia sy stem
by how much the maximum permissible speed
can be exceeded before a warning is issued. You
can specify whe ther thewa rning is tobe just a
visual warning or an acoustic one as well. If the
automatic speed accep tance forAc tive Dis tance
Assist DISTRONIC is acti vated, thewa rnings are

Since Traf fic Sign Assist also usesthe data
st ored in the navigation sy stem, it can update

de tecting traf fic signs:
RWhen theve hicle changes roads, e.g. for a
free wayentr yor exit lane.
RWhen a village or city boundary is passed
which is stored in the digital map.
Traf fic Sign Assist is notavailable in all coun‐
tries. If it is una vailable, display 1is shown in
th e speedome ter.
Sy stem limitations
The sy stem may be impaired or may not function
in thefo llowing situations:
RIf yo u are driving in conditions of poor visibil‐
ity, e.g. due toinsuf ficient illumination of the
ro ad, highly variable shade conditions, or due
to rain, sno w,fog or heavy spr ay.
