SRS care
The SRS is virtually maintenance-free
and so there are no parts you can safe‐
ly service by yourself. If the SRS air bag warning light does not illuminate, or
continuously remains on, have the sys‐
tem inspected by a professional work‐ shop.
Kia recommends to visit an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
•Modification to SRS components orwiring, including the addition ofany kind of badges to the pad cov‐ers or modifications to the bodystructure, can adversely affectSRS performance and lead to pos‐sible injury.
•For cleaning the air bag pad cov‐ers, use only a soft, dry cloth orone which has been moistenedwith plain water. Solvents or clean‐ers could adversely affect the airbag covers and proper deploymentof the system.

•No objects should be placed overor near the air bag modules on thesteering wheel, instrument panel, and the front passenger's panelabove the glove box, because anysuch object could cause harm ifthe vehicle is in a crash severeenough to cause the air bags to in‐flate.
•If the air bags inflate, have thesystem replaced by a professionalworkshop.Kia recommends to visit an au‐thorized Kia dealer/service part‐ner.
•Do not tamper with or disconnectSRS wiring, or other componentsof the SRS system. Doing so couldresult in injury, due to accidentalinflation of the air bags or by ren‐dering the SRS inoperative.

key) is dangerous even if the key isnot in the ignition switch or startbutton is ACC or ON position.Children copy adults and they couldplace the key in the ignition switchor press the start button. The igni‐tion key (smart key) would enablechildren to operate power windowsor other controls, or even make thevehicle move, which could result inserious bodily injury or even death.Never leave the keys in your vehiclewith unsupervised children, whenthe engine is running.
WARNING
Kia recommends to use parts for re‐placement from an authorized Kiadealer/service partner. If an after‐market key is used, the ignitionswitch may not return to ON afterSTART. If this happens, the starterwill continue to operate causingdamage to the starter motor andpossible fire due to excessive currentin the wiring.
Immobilizer system
Your vehicle may be equipped with an
electronic engine immobilizer system to
reduce the risk of unauthorized vehicle
use.
Your immobilizer system is comprised of a small transponder in the ignition
key and electronic devices inside the
vehicle.
Vehicles without smart key system
With the immobilizer system, whenever
you insert your ignition key into the ig‐ nition switch and turn it to ON, it checks
and determines and verifies if the igni‐
tion key is valid or not.If the key is valid, the engine will start.
If the key is invalid, the engine will not
start.
To deactivate the immobilizer system:
Insert the ignition key into the key cyl‐ inder and turn it to the ON position.
To activate the immobilizer system:
Turn the ignition key to the OFF posi‐
tion. The immobilizer system activates
automatically. Without a valid ignition key for your vehicle, the engine will not
start.
Vehicles with smart key system
Whenever the engine start/stop button
is changed to the ON position, the im‐
mobilizer system checks and verifies if the key is valid or not. If the key is valid, the engine will start.
If the key is invalid, the engine will not
start.
To deactivate the immobilizer system
Change the engine start/stop button to
the ON position.
To activate the immobilizer system
Change the engine start/stop button to the OFF position. The immobilizer sys‐
tem activates automatically. Without a
valid smart key for your vehicle, the engine will not start.
WARNING
In order to prevent theft of your ve‐hicle, do not leave spare keys any‐where in your vehicle. Your immobil‐izer password is a customer uniquepassword and should be kept confi‐dential. Do not leave this numberanywhere in your vehicle.

may not start or may stop soon af‐
ter it starts. Keep each key separate
in order to avoid a starting malfunc‐

NOTICE
If you need additional keys or lose
your keys, Kia recommends to visit
an authorized Kia dealer/service
partner.
CAUTION
The transponder in your ignition keyis an important part of the immobil‐izer system. It is designed to giveyears of trouble-free service, how‐ever you should avoid exposure tomoisture, static electricity and roughhandling. Immobilizer system mal‐function could occur.
CAUTION
Do not change, alter or adjust theimmobilizer system because it couldcause the immobilizer system tomalfunction. In this case, have thesystem serviced by a professionalworkshop. Kia recommends to visitan authorized Kia dealer/servicepartner.Malfunctions caused by improper al‐terations, adjustments or modifica‐tions to the immobilizer system arenot covered by your vehicle manu‐facturer warranty.
