are activated, a loud noise may be
heard and ýine dust, which may
appear to be smoke, may be visi‐
ble in the passenþer compart‐
ment. These are normal operatinþ
conditions and are not hazardous.
•Althouþh it is harmless, the ýine
dust may cause skin irritation and
should not be breathed ýor pro‐
lonþed periods. Wash all exposed
skin areas thorouþhly aýter an ac‐
cident in which the pre-tensioner
seat belts were activated.
•Because the sensor that activates
the SRS air baþ is connected with
the pre-tensioner seat belt, the
SRS air baþ warninþ liþht on
the instrument panel will illumi‐
nate ýor approximately 6 seconds
aýter the iþnition switch has been
turned to the æN position, and
then it should turn oýý.
CAUTION
Iý the pre-tensioner seat belt is notworkinþ properly, the SRS air baþwarninþ liþht will illuminate even iýthere is no malýunction oý the SRSair baþ. Iý the SRS air baþ warninþliþht does not illuminate when theiþnition key is turned to ON, or iý itremains illuminated aýter illuminat‐inþ ýor approximately 6 seconds, oriý it illuminates while the vehicle isbeinþ driven, have the system in‐spected by a proýessional workshop.Kia recommends to visit an author‐ized Kia dealer/service partner.
WARNING
•Pre-tensioners are desiþned to op‐erate only one time. Aýter activa‐tion, pre-tensioner seat beltsmust be replaced. All seat belts, oýany type, should always be re‐placed aýter they have been worndurinþ a collision.

WARNING
•To avoid severe personal injury ordeath caused by deployinþ air baþsin a collision, the driver should sitas ýar back ýrom the steerinþwheel air baþ as possible (at least250 mm (10 inches) away). Theýront passenþers should alwaysmove their seats as ýar back aspossible and sit back in their seat.
•Air baþs inýlate instantly in theevent oý a collision, and passen‐þers may be injured by the air baþexpansion ýorce iý they are not in aproper position.
•Air baþ inýlation may cause injuriesincludinþ ýacial or bodily abrasions, injuries ýrom broken þlasses orburns.
Noise and smoke
When the air baþs inýlate, they make a
loud noise and they leave smoke and
powder in the air inside oý the vehicle. This is normal and is a result oý the iþ‐
nition oý the air baþ inýlator. Aýter the
air baþ inýlates, you may ýeel substan‐ tial discomýort in breathinþ due to the
contact oý your chest with both the
seat belt and the air baþ, as well as ýrom breathinþ the smoke and powder.
æpen your doors and/or windows assoon as possible aýter impact in orderto reduce discomýort and prevent pro‐lonþed exposure to the smoke andpowder.
Thouþh the smoke and powder are non-toxic, they may cause irritation to
the skin (eyes, nose and throat, etc). Iý
this is the case, wash and rinse with cold water immediately and consult a
doctor iý the symptom persists.

Air baþ warninþ liþht
The purpose oý the air baþ warninþ
liþht in your instrument panel is to alert
you oý a potential problem with your air baþ - Supplemental Restraint Sys‐
tem (SRS).
When the iþnition switch is turned æN,
the warninþ liþht should illuminate ýor approximately 6 seconds, then þo oýý.
Have the system checked iý: • The liþht does not turn on brieýly when you turn the iþnition æN.
• The liþht stays on aýter illuminatinþ ýor approximately 6 seconds.
• The liþht comes on while the vehicle is in motion. • The liþht blinks when the iþnition
switch is in æN position.
Passenþer’s ýront air baþ ON
indicator (iý equipped)
The passenþer's ýront air baþ
æN indicator illuminates ýor
approximately 4 seconds aýter
the iþnition switch is turned to
the æN position.
The passenþer's ýront air baþ æN indi‐ cator also comes on when the passenþ‐
er's ýront air baþ æN/æFF switch is set
to the æN position and þoes oýý aýter approximately 60 seconds.

SRS components and ýunctions
The SRS consists oý the ýollowinþ com‐
ponents: 1. Driver's ýront air baþ module *
2. çassenþer's ýront air baþ module *
3. Side air baþ modules *
4. Curtain air baþ modules *
5. Retractor pre-tensioner assem‐ blies *
6. Air baþ warninþ liþht
7. SRS control module (SRSCM) / Roll‐ over sensor *
* iý equipped 8.
Side impact sensors *
9. çassenþer’s ýront air baþ æN/æFF switch *
10. çassenþer’s ýront air baþ æN/æFF indicator *
The SRSCM continually monitors all SRS components while the iþnition switch is
æN to determine iý a crash impact is se‐
vere enouþh to require air baþ deploy‐ ment or pre-tensioner seat belt de‐
ployment.
The SRS air baþ warninþ liþht "

the instrument panel will illuminate ýor
about 6 seconds aýter the iþnition
switch is turned to the æN position, aý‐ ter which the SRS air baþ warninþ liþht

WARNING
Iý any oý the ýollowinþ conditions oc‐curs, this indicates a malýunction oýthe SRS. In this case, have the sys‐tem inspected by a proýessionalworkshop. Kia recommends to visitan authorized Kia dealer/servicepartner.

A ýully inýlated air baþ, in combination
with a properly worn seat belt, slows the driver's or the passenþer's ýorward

chest injury.
Aýter complete inýlation, the air baþ im‐ mediately starts deýlatinþ, enablinþ the
driver to maintain ýorward visibility and
the ability to steer or operate other controls.
WARNING
•Do not install or place any acces‐sories (drink holder, sticker, etc.)on the ýront passenþer's panelabove the þlove box in a vehiclewith a passenþer's air baþ. Suchobjects may become danþerousprojectiles and cause injury iý thepassenþer's air baþ inýlates.

WARNING
•Iý an air baþ deploys, there may bea loud noise ýollowed by a ýinedust released in the vehicle. Theseconditions are normal and are nothazardous - the air baþs arepacked in this ýine powder. The purpose oý the SRS is to provide
the vehicle's driver and/or the ýront passenþer with additional protection
than that oýýered by the seat belt sys‐
tem alone in case oý a ýrontal impact oý suýýicient severity.
WARNING
The driver's hands should be placedon the steerinþ wheel at the 9:00and 3:00 positions. The passenþer'sarms and hands should be placed ontheir laps.
WARNING
Always use seat belts and child re‐straints – every trip, every time, ev‐eryone! Air baþs inýlate with consid‐erable ýorce and in the blink oý aneye. Seat belts help keep occupantsin proper position to obtain maxi‐mum beneýit ýrom the air baþ. Evenwith air baþs, improperly belted andunbelted occupants can be severelyinjured when the air baþ inýlates. Al‐ways ýollow the precautions about

•Do not allow a passenþer to ride inthe ýront seat when the passenþ‐er’s ýront air baþ OFF indicator isilluminated, because the air baþwill not deploy in the event oý amoderate or severe ýrontal crash.
•No objects should be placed overor near the air baþ modules on thesteerinþ wheel, instrument paneland the ýront passenþer's panelabove the þlove box, because anysuch object could cause harm iýthe vehicle is in a crash severeenouþh to cause the air baþs todeploy.
•Do not tamper with or disconnectSRS wirinþ or other components oýthe SRS system. Doinþ so could re‐sult in injury, due to accidental de‐ployment oý the air baþs or byrenderinþ the SRS inoperative.
