VERY IMPORTANT
REFUELLING
Petrol engines: only refuel the vehicle with unleaded petrol with an octane rating (RON) not less than 95 conforming to the European
specification EN228.
Diesel engines: only refuel the vehicle with diesel fuel for motor vehicles conforming to the European specification EN590. The use of other
products or mixtures may damage the engine beyond repair and consequently invalidate the warranty, due to the damage caused.
Refuelling with methane: refuel only with methane for motor vehicles. The use of other products or mixtures may damage the engine
beyond repair and consequently invalidate the warranty, due to the damage caused.
For further details on the use of the correct fuel see the "Refuelling the vehicle" paragraph in the "Starting and driving" chapter.
STARTING THE ENGINE
Versions with manual transmission (petrol engines): make sure that the handbrake is engaged; put the gear lever in neutral; fully
depress the clutch pedal without pressing the accelerator, then turn the ignition key to AVV and release it as soon as the engine has started.
Versions with manual transmission (Diesel engines): turn the ignition key to MAR and wait for the
andwarning lights to switch
off. Then turn the ignition key to AVV and release it as soon as the engine has started.
Versions with Comfort-matic transmission: make sure that the handbrake is engaged and that the gear lever is in P (Park) or N (Neutral).
Then depress the brake pedal, turn the ignition key to AVV and release it as soon as the engine starts.
Versions with Dualogic™transmission: make sure that the handbrake is engaged and that the gear lever is in P (Park) or N (Neutral). Then
depress the brake pedal, turn the ignition key to AVV and release it as soon as the engine starts.
PARKING ON FLAMMABLE MATERIAL
The catalytic converter develops high temperatures during operation. Do not park on grass, dry leaves, pine needles or other flammable
material: fire hazard.
RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
The vehicle is fitted with a system that allows continuous diagnosis of the emission-related components in order to help protect the
environment.
ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES
If, after purchasing the vehicle, you want to install accessories that require electric power (with the risk that they gradually drain the battery),
contact the Fiat Dealership, which will evaluate the overall electrical consumption and make sure that the electrical system in the vehicle
can handle the required load.
SCHEDULED SERVICING
Correct maintenance enables the vehicle to perfectly maintain performance and safety characteristics, its environmental friendliness and low
running costs over time.
Messages on display What it means What to do
MESSAGES ON DISPLAY (“COMFORT-MATIC”
TRANSMISSION)
A message appears on the display in the following
cases:
incorrect use of the transmission by the driver;
manual mode not available;
automatic mode not available;
hot clutch;
starting without pressing the brake pedal;
gear not available;
manoeuvre not permitted;
shifting without pressing the brake pedal;
neutral engagement request (N);
START&STOP SYSTEM ACTIVATION
The symbol lights up on the display when the engine is
stopped automatically (for versions/markets, where
provided).
GEAR SHIFT INDICATION
(for versions/markets, where provided)
On vehicles with a manual transmission, the gear shift
indicator suggests gear changes to the driver (SHIFT
UP or SHIFT DOWN) via a special display on the
instrument panel. This suggestion to change gear is
designed to improve consumption and ensure the best
driving style.
NOTE The indication in the instrument panel remains on
until the driver shifts gear or the driving conditions go
back to a situation where gearshifting is not required to
improve consumption.

USING THE
GEARBOX
To engage the gears, depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the gear
lever A-fig. 127 into the required
position (the diagram is shown on the
gear knob fig. 123).
IMPORTANT Reverse may only be
engaged when the vehicle is at a
standstill. With the engine running, wait
for at least 2 seconds with the clutch
pedal fully pressed before engaging
reverse to prevent damage to the gears
and grating.
To engage reverse R from neutral, lift
ring B under the knob and at the same
time move the gear lever to the right
and then backwards (as shown in the
diagram).

23)
WARNING
95)Depress the clutch pedal fully to
change gear correctly. Therefore, the floor
area underneath the pedal unit must not
be obstructed in any way. Ensure that the
floor mat is always laid flat and does not
interfere with use of the pedals.
WARNING
23)Do not drive with your hand resting on
the gear lever as the force exerted, even
if slight, could lead over time to premature
wear of the internal gearbox components.
The clutch pedal should be used only
for gear changes. Do not drive with your
foot resting on the clutch pedal, however
lightly. For versions/markets where
provided, the electronic clutch control
could cut in by interpreting the incorrect
driving style as a fault.
COMFORT-MATIC/
DUALOGIC
TRANSMISSION
The vehicle is equipped with an
electronically controlled mechanical
transmission ((Comfort-Matic or
Dualogic) which has two operating
modes:MANUALandAUTO.
The transmission consists of a
traditional manual transmission with a
lever fig. 124, to which an electronically
controlled electro-hydraulic device
has been added to automatically
control the clutch and gear the
engagement.

STARTING AND DRIVING
TOWING THE
VEHICLE
The tow ring provided with the vehicle
is located in the tool box behind the left
seat backrest (Cargo versions) or in
the boot (Doblò / Doblò Combi
versions).
ATTACHING THE TOW
HOOK
Proceed as follows:
release the cap A fig. 188-fig. 189;
take the tow hook B from the tool
bag;
fully screw the hook onto the
threaded front or rear pin.
129) 130) 131)
39)
Versions with COMFORT-MATIC
transmission or DUALOGIC™
transmission
Make sure that the gearbox is in neutral
(N) (checking that the vehicle moves
when pushed) and proceed in the same
way as for towing a normal vehicle
with a manual transmission.
If the gear lever cannot be put in
neutral, do not tow the vehicle, but
contact a Fiat Dealership.
WARNING
129)Before towing, turn the ignition key to
MAR-ON and then to STOP without
removing it. The steering column
will automatically lock when the key is
removed and the wheels cannot be
steered.130)Before tightening the ring, clean the
threaded housing thoroughly. Make sure
that the ring is fully fastened in the housing
before towing the vehicle. Do not start
the engine whilst the vehicle is being
towed.
131)When towing, remember that greater
effort is required on the brake pedal in
order to brake, since the brake servo is not
providing assistance. Do not use flexible
cables when towing and avoid jerky
movements. During towing operations,
make sure that the fastened joint does not
damage adjoining components. When
towing the vehicle, it is necessary to obey
specific road regulations which relate
both to the towing device as well as to the
behaviour to adopt on the road. Do not
start the engine whilst the vehicle is being
towed.
WARNING
39)The front and rear tow hooks should
be used only for emergencies on the road.
You are allowed to tow the vehicle for
short distances using an appropriate
device in accordance with the highway
code (a rigid bar), to move the vehicle on
the road in readiness for towing or
transport via a breakdown vehicle. Tow
hooks MUST NOT be used to tow vehicles
off the road or where there are obstacles
and/or for towing operations using cables
or other non-rigid devices. In compliance
with the above conditions, towing must
take place with the two vehicles (one
towing, the other towed) aligned as much
as possible along the same centre line.
