Checking and Filling Fuel
Gasoline grade
The correct gasoline grade is stated on the inside
of the fuel filler door .
The vehicle is equipped with a catalytic converter
and must only be driven with
unl ead ed g asoline.
Audi recommends using TOP TIER Detergent Gas
oline. Additiona l information on TOP TIER Deter
gent Gasoline can be found on the offic ial web
site (www .topt iergas.com).
The individua l gasoline grades are differentiated
by
oc ta n e ra ting s. This value is given with (R +M)/
2 equating to AKI or in RON.
The fo llowing headings match the corresponding
sticker in the fuel fi ller door .
UNLEADED FUEL ONLY MIN. (R+M )/2 8 7
R egula r/ MIN. RON 91 Regula r
Use regu la r gasoline with minimum 87 AKI/
91 RON ~ (Di .
The max imum engine power is only reached if
prem ium gaso line 91 AKI/ 95 RON is used.
UNLEADED FUEL ONLY PREMIUM MIN . (R
+M )/2 91 / SUPER MIN. RON 95
Using prem ium gaso line with minimum 91 AKI/
95 RON is recommended.
If premium gasoline is not available, you can also
use regula r gasoline 87 AKI/ 91 RON . However
this does reduce the engine powe r sli ght ly.
{LlJ) Note
- Fill ing the tank just one t ime with leaded
fuel or other meta llic additives wi ll cause
permanent deter io rat ion to the catalyt ic
conve rter function.
- When gasoline with an octane rat ing that is
too low is used, h igh speeds o r heavy eng ine
l oad can lead to eng ine damage.
Ch eck ing and F illing
(D Tips
The vehicle may be filled with fuel that has a
higher octane rating than what is requ ired by
the engine .
Blended gasoline
U se of g asoline cont aining alcohol or MTBE
( m eth yl tertiary butyl ether )
You may use unleaded gasoline blended with al
cohol or MTBE (commonly referred to as oxygen
ates) if the blended m ixture meets the fo llow ing
c riter ia:
Blend of ga soline me thanol ( wood alc ohol or
meth yl alcoh ol)
-Anti-knock index must be 87 AKI or h igher.
- Blend must contain no more than
3% metha-
nol.
- Blend must contain more than
2% co-solvents.
Blend of g asoline a nd eth ano l (g ra in a lcoh ol o r
eth yl alc ohol )
-Anti-knock index must be 87 AK I or h igher.
- Blend must not conta in more than
15% etha-
nol.
Blend of g asoline and MTBE
- Anti -knock index must be 87 AKI or higher.
- Blend must not contain more than
15% MTBE .
Seasonally a djust ed g aso lin e
Many gasoline grades are blended to perform es
pecially well for winter or summer dr iving . Dur
i ng seasonal change-over, we suggest that you
fill up at busy gas stat ions where the seasonal
adjustment is mo re likely to be made in t ime .
@ Note
-Methano l fuels which do not meet these re
quirements may cause cor rosion and dam
age to p lastic and rubbe r components in the
fue l system.
- Do not use fuels that fa il to meet the speci
fied cr ite ria in t his chapter.

Operating your vehicle
outside the U.S.A. or
Canada
Government regulati ons in the United States and
Canada require that automobi les meet specific
emission regulations and safety standards.
Therefore, vehicles built for the U.S.A. and Cana
da differ from vehicles sold in other countries.
If you plan to take your vehicle outside the conti
nenta l limits of the United States or Canada,
there is the possibility that:
- un leaded fue ls for vehicles with catalytic con
verter may not be available;
- fuel may have a conside rably lower octane rat
ing . Improper fuel may cause engine damage;
- se rvice may be inadequate due to lack of proper
service facilities, tools or testing equipment;
- r eplacement parts may not be readily available.
- Nav igat ion systems for veh icles built for the
U .S .A . and Canada w ill not necessarily work in
Europe, and may not wo rk in other count ries

Maintenance
General
Your vehicle has been designed to help keep
maintenance requirements to a minimum. How
ever, a certain amount of regular maintenance is
still necessary to assure your vehicle's safety,
economy and reliability . For detailed vehicle
maintenance consult your Warranty & Mainte
nance booklet .
Under difficult operating conditions, for exam
ple at extremely low outside temperatures, in
very dusty regions, etc., some service work shou ld be performed between the intervals speci
fied. This applies particularly to:
- oil changes , and
- cleaning or replac ing the a ir filter .
@) For the sake of the environment
By regularly maintaining your vehicle, you
help make sure that em iss ion standards are
maintained, thus min imizing adverse effects
on the environment .
Important considerations for you and your
vehicle
The increasing use of electronics, soph isticated
fuel injection and emission control systems, and
the genera lly increasing technica l complexity of
today's automobiles, have steadily reduced the
