Avoid full acceler ation
You sho uld rare ly t rave l a t t he maxim um vehicle
speed . High speeds cause a disproportionately
h igh increase in fuel consumption, emissions and
traffic noise . Slower driving saves fuel.
Reduce idling time
It pays off to stop the eng ine, for example when
at ra ilroad crossings or traffi c lights w ith longer
red lights . Stopping the engine for 30 -40 sec­
onds already saves more fuel than the amount of
extra fuel needed to restart the engine.
I t takes a very long time in idle to wa rm the en­
gine up to operating tempera ture . Wea r and
emissions are especially high in the warm -up
p hase . Therefore, you should begin driving im ­
mediately after starting the engine. Avoid high
RPMs while do ing th is.
Hav e ma intenanc e performed r egularly
By having maintenance performed regu lar ly on
your vehicle, you can he lp to reduce fuel con ­
sumption before yo u even start to drive. The
maintenance condition of your vehicle not only
affects traffic safety and long-term va lue but al­
so impacts
fu el con sumpt ion .
A poorly maintained engine can lead to fuel con ­
sumpt ion that is 10% higher than norma l.
A lso check the
o il l evel when refueling . The oil
consumpt ion
depends large ly on the engine load
and speed. It is normal for the oil consumption
of a new eng ine to reach its lowest point only af­
ter a certain amount of use. Therefore, the oil
consumption can only be properly judged after
approx imately 3,000 m i (S,000 km) have been
driven.
Avoid short trips
The engine and exhaust clean ing system must
reach their opt imal
op erating temp eratur e to ef­
fective ly reduce consumpt ion and emiss ions.
A co ld engine uses a disproportionately h igh
amount of fuel. The eng ine reaches operating
temperature and consumpt ion normalizes only
afte r approx imately
2.5 miles (4 km) .
Driving
@ Note
Do not leave engine idling unattended after
start ing. If warning lights sho uld come on to
i ndicate improper operation, they would go
unheeded. Extended idling also produces
heat, which could resu lt in overheating or
other damage to the veh icle o r other proper­
ty.

Inte rlock button
The in terlock button in the selector lever handle
prevents you from moving the selector lever in ­
advertently while in some selector lever posi­
tions. The positions that require the interlock
button to be pressed are marked in color in the il­
lustration

@ Tips
-If the se lector lever does not engage, there
i s a malfunction. The engine is d isabled to
prevent the vehicle from driving off unin­
tentiona lly . To allow the selector lever to
engage aga in , proceed as follows:
-Briefly press the brake pedal.
-If the vehicle does not move forward or in
reverse even thoug h a drive position is se­
lected, proceed as follows:
-> If the veh icle does not move in the desired
direction, the system may not have engaged
the drive pos it ion correctly. Press the brake
pedal and select the drive position again.
->If the veh icle st ill does not move in the de­
s ired direction, there is a system malfunc­
tion. See an authorized Audi dea ler or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility for assistance
to have the system checked .
Driving tips
The transmission shifts up and down automati­
cally when in the driving gears.

Audi drive select (drive
settings)
Introduction
A pp lies to: ve hicles w ith Aud i d rive select
Drive select makes it possible to expe rience d if­
fe rent types of vehicle settings in one vehicle.
The driver can select from three modes, Comfort,
Auto and Dynamic , using the
i:l:ta button in the
center console or by using the Infotainment sys­
tem . T his allows you to switch between a sporty
and a comfortab le driving mode, for examp le. In
the Indi vidual mode, the settings can be adjust­
ed to your personal preferences. This makes it
possible to combine sett ings such as a sporty en­
g ine setting w ith light steering.

Description

The veh icle setup in each mode depends on the
vehicle's features.
Engine and automatic transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and auto­
matic transmission respond more quickly or in a
more balanced manner to accelerator pedal
movements.
Suspension control (Audi magnetic ride)*
The suspension control uses sensors to record in­
format ion regarding steering movements, brak­
i ng and acceleration operations by the driver, as
well as information about the road surface, driv­
i ng speed, and load. W ith dr ive se lect, you can
adjust the suspension control to sporty (dynam­
ic ), comfortable (comfort) or balanced (auto).
Steering
The power steering adapts . Indirect steering that
moves eas ily as in comfort mode is espec ially
su ited to long drives on a highway . The dynamic
mode provides sporty, direct steering.
Engine sound*
The engine sound adapts to the current mode
and can be subtle to sporty .

In some models, the maximum vehicle speed
can only be reached in the auto and dynamic
modes .

Telephone Introduction
Applies to: vehicles with telephone
To make phone coils in your vehicle using the
MMI, connect your cell phone to the MMI via
Bluetooth.
Handsfree
After you have connected your ce ll phone to the
MMI via Bluetooth, you can use the handsfree
system and operate telephone functions through
your MMI. You can make calls using the antenna
on your cell phone.
A WARNING
-Medical experts warn that cell phones can
interfere w ith the funct ion of pacemakers .
Always ma inta in a m inimum distance of
about 8 inches (20 cm) between the cell
phone antenna and the pacemake r.
-Do not carry the cell phone in a pocket di­
rectly over the pacemaker when the phone
is switched on.
-Sw itch the cell phone off immediately if
you suspect it may be interfering w ith the
pacemaker.
-Do not use the voice recognition system*

voice may change in stressful situations. It
may take longer to dial the number or the
system may not be able to dial it at all. Dial
the emergency number manually.
-Switch your cell phone off in areas where
there is a risk of an exp losion. These loca­
t ions are not always clearly marked. This
may include gas stations, fuel and chemical
storage facilities or transport vehicles, or lo­
cations where fue l vapors (such as propane
or gasoline vapor in vehicles or bui ldings),
chem icals or large quantities of dust parti­
cles (such as flour, sawdust or metal) may
be present in the air. Th is also applies to all
ot her locations where you would normally
turn your vehicle engine off.

Checking and Filling Fuel
Gasoline grade
The correct gasoline grade is stated on the inside
of the fuel filler door .
The vehicle is equipped with a catalytic converter
and must only be driven with
unl ead ed g asoline.
Audi recommends using TOP TIER Detergent Gas­
oline. Additiona l information on TOP TIER Deter­
gent Gasoline can be found on the offic ial web­
site (www .topt iergas.com).
The individua l gasoline grades are differentiated
by
oc ta n e ra ting s. This value is given with (R +M)/
2 equating to AKI or in RON.
The fo llowing headings match the corresponding
sticker in the fuel fi ller door .

fill up at busy gas stat ions where the seasonal
adjustment is mo re likely to be made in t ime .

-Methano l fuels which do not meet these re­
quirements may cause cor rosion and dam­
age to p lastic and rubbe r components in the
fue l system.
- Do not use fuels that fa il to meet the speci­
fied cr ite ria in t his chapter.

Checking and Filling
-If you a re unable to determine whether or
not a particular fuel blend meets the speci­
fications, ask your service station or its fuel
supplier.
- Do not use fuel for which the contents can­
not be identified.
- Fuel system damage and performance prob­
lems resulting from the use of fuels differ­
ent from those specified a re not the respon­
sibility of Audi and are not covered under
the New Vehicle or the Emission Control System Warranties.
- If you experience a loss of fuel economy or
driveability and performance problems due
to the use of one of these fuel blends , we
recommend that you switch to unblended
fuel.
Gasoline additives
A major concern among many auto manufactur­
ers is carbon deposit build-up caused by the type
of gasoline you use.
Although gasoline grades differ from one manu­
facturer to another, they have certain things in
common. All gasoline grades contain substances
that can cause deposits to collect on vital engin e
parts, such as fuel injectors and intake valves. Al­
though most gasoline brands include additives to keep engine and fuel systems clean, they are not
equally effective .
Audi recommends using TOP TI ER Dete rgent Gas­
oline. For more information on TOP TIER Deter­
gent Gasoline , please go to the official website

Refueling
Fueling procedure
Your vehicle is equipped with a capless fuel filler
system .

The fuel filler door is unlocked or locked by the
central locking system.
.. Press on the left side of the fuel filler door to

fuel tank filler neck

seated correctly.
.. Begin fueling. Once the fuel pump no zzle turns
off the first time, the fuel tank is full. Do not
continue fueling, or else the expansion space in
the tank will be filled with fuel.
.. After the fuel pump has switched off, wait five
seconds before removing it to allow the rest of
the fuel to finish dripping into the fuel tank.
.. Close the fuel filler door and then press on the
left side until it latches.
The correct fuel type for your vehicle can be
found on a label located on the inside of the f uel

Emissions control

Catal ytic conve rt er
The vehicle may on ly be driven with unleaded
gasoline, otherwise the catalyt ic converter will be
destroyed.
Never drive until the tank is completely empty.
The irregular supply of f uel that results from that
can cause engine m isfires. Uncombusted fuel will
enter the exhaust system, wh ich can cause over­
heat ing and damage to the catalyt ic converter .
A WARNING
The temperature of the exhaust system is
high, both when d riving and after stopping
the engine.
-
- Never touch the exhaust tail pipes once they
have become ho t. This could result in bu rns.
- Do not park your vehicle ove r flammable
materials such as g rass or leaves because
the high temperat ure of the em iss ions con­
trol system co uld s tart a fire.
- Do not apply underbody p rotectant in the
exha ust system area, because this inc reases
the risk of fi re.
On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
The On -Board Diagnostic System monitors the
engine and transmission components that influ­
ence emissions.

verter .

f unct ion corrected.
A WARNING ..
Incorrect use of the connection port for the
On-Board D iagnostic System can cause ma l­
f u nctions, which can then result in accidents
and serious injuries.
- Only allow an authorized Audi dea ler or au­
thor ized Audi Service Fac ility to read out the
engine data.
Engine compartment
Working in the engine compartment
Special care is required if you are working in the
engine compartment
-
F o r work in the engine compa rtment such as
checking and fill ing fl uids , there i s a risk of in­
jury , scalding, accident s, and b urn s. For thi s
re ason , follow all the warnings and general
safety pre cautions prov ided in the following
in ­
formati on. The engine compartm ent i s a dan­
gerou s area .

A WARNING
-----Turn the engine off.
- Sw itch the igni tio n off.
- Set the parking brake.
- P lace the se lector lever in the P position.
-Let the eng ine cool down.
-Never open the hood when there is steam or
coolant escaping from the engine compart­
ment, because there is a risk that you could

be burned. Wait until no steam or coolant is
escaping.
- Keep children away from the engine com ­
partment.
- Never spill fluids on a hot engine . These flu ­
ids (such as the freeze protection contained
in the coolant) can catch fire.
- Avoid short circuits in the e lectrica l system,
especially to the battery.
- When working in the engine compartment,
remember that the radiator fan can switch
on even if the ign ition is switched off, which
increases the risk of personal in jury.
- Never open the cap on the coolant expan­
sion tank when the eng ine is warm. The
cooling system is under pressure.
- To protect your face, hands, and arms from hot steam or coolant, cover the cap with a
large cloth when opening.
- Do not remove the engine cover under any circumstances. This increases the risk of
burns .
- If tests need to be performed w ith the en­
gine ru nning, there is additional danger due
to moving components (such as the ribbed
belt, a lter nator and radiator fa n) and from
the high-voltage ign it io n system.
- Do not press the accelerator pedal inadver­
tent ly if a gear is selected when the veh icle
is sta tionary and the eng ine is ru nning. Oth­
erwise, the veh icle w ill start to move imme ­
diately and t his co uld r esult in an a ccid en t.
- Pay attention to the fo llow ing warnings list­
ed whe n wo rk on the fuel system or on the
electri cal eq uipment is requ ired.
- Do not smoke.
- Never work near open flames.
- Always have a working fire extinguisher
nearby.
- All work on the battery or e lectrica l system
in yo ur vehicle can res ult in injuries, chemi­
ca l burns, accidents or burns. Because of
t h is, all wor k must be performed
only by an
autho rized Aud i dealer or authorized Aud i
Service Facility .
- To reduce the risk of electric shock and in­
jury , never touch the following components

when t he engine is runni ng or is being start ­
ed:
- Ig nition cable
- Other compone nts in the electron ic high-
vo ltage ig nition system
- If you must check or perform work on the
eng ine wh ile it is ru nning:
- Set the pa rking brake and p lace the selec ­
tor lever in the P (par k) position fi rst .
- Alw ays proceed w ith ext reme cau tion so
t h at clothing, jewelry or long hair do not
become ca ught in the radiator fan, fan
belt or other moving components or do
not come into contact with hot compo ­
nents. Tie back long hair before begin ning
work and do not wear clothing that can
hang dow n into the eng ine .
- Lim it your exposure to exhaust and chemi­
cals to as short a time as possible
