Opening and clo sin g
® Central switc h* for opening or closing all side
windows at the same t ime
A WARNING
- If you leave the vehicle, switch the ignit ion
off and take the vehicle key with you . This
applies particularly when children remain in
the vehicle. Otherwise the children could
start the engine or operate electr ical equip­
ment such as power windows.
- Pay careful attention when closing the win ­
dows . Pinching could cause serious injuries.
- When locking the vehicle from outside, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­ dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency .
@ Tips
After turning the ignition off you can still
open and close the windows for approximate-
ly 10 seconds. The power w indows do not
sw itch off until the dr iver's door or front pas­
senger's door has been opened.
Convenience opening/closing

- For secur ity reasons, the windows and the
panorama g lass roof* can only be opened
and closed with the remote control key at a
maxim um distance of app roximately 6.5
feet (2 m) away from the vehicle . Always
pay atten tion when using

close the windows and the panorama g lass
roof* so that no one is pi nched. The closing
process w ill stop immediately when

Correcting power window malfunctions
You can reactivate the one-touch up/down func­
tion if it malfunctions.
.. Pull the power wi ndow switch until the window
is completely raised .
.. Release the sw itch and pu ll it up again for at
least one second .

Seats and stor age
A WARNING
- To reduce the risk of an accident, on ly adjust
the front seats when the vehicle is station­
ary.
- The power adjustment for the front seats al­
so works w ith the ignition switched off or
with the ignition key removed . T o reduce
the risk of injury, chi ld ren should never be
left unattended in the vehicle for this rea­
son.
- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height. Uns uperv ised or careless seat ad­
justment can p inch f ingers or hands, wh ich
increases the risk of injury.
- T he front seat backres ts m ust not be re­
clined too far back when driving, because
this impairs the effectiveness of the safety
belts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of injury.
(D Tips
The massage function* switches off a utomat i­
cally after approximately 10 min utes.
Easy seat entry
Applies to: veh icles with entry assistance
En try assistance makes it easier for the rear pas­
sengers to enter and leave the vehicle.

-Always make sure the front seats are up­
r ight and securely locked in place.

- Power entry assistance also works when the
ign it ion is switched offll or when the igni­
tion key is removed , so that rear seat pas­
senge rs can still move to the front of the ve­
hicle in an emergency s ituation. To reduce
the r isk of injury, childre n should never be
left unattended in the vehi cle for this rea­
son.
Front center armrest
Applies to vehicles with a front center armrest
There is a storage compartment under the arm­
rest.

The locked steering helps prevent vehicle theft.
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. You must use more force to turn or brake . Because you
cannot steer and brake as you usually
would, this co uld lead to accidents and seri-

-Never remove the ignit ion key from the ign i­
t ion loc k while the vehicle is moving. Other­
wise, the steering lock could suddenly en­
gage and you would not be able to steer the
vehicle.
- If you leave the veh icle, switch the ignit ion
off and take the vehicle key with you. Other­
wise, the engine could be started or electri­
cal equipment such as the power windows
could be operated. This can lead to serious
injury.
- For safety reasons, always park the vehicle
with the selector lever in the P position.
Otherwise, there is the risk that the vehicle
could roll unintentionally .
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period of t ime, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine is
switched off and there is a risk of damaging
the engine . For this reason, let the engine run
for at idle
for approximately two minutes be­
fore shutting it
off.
@ Tips
For up to 10 minutes after stopping the en­
gine, the radiator fan may turn on again auto­
matically or it may continue to run (even if
the ignition is sw itched
off) for the following
reasons:

- The coolant temperature is increasing due
to trapped heat.

partment also heats up from strong sun­

Starting the engine

The engine will start.
Equipment that uses a lot of electricity is switch­
ed
off temporarily when you start the engine .
If the engine does not start immediately, stop
the starting procedure by pushing the
I START ENGINE STOP! button again and repeat
after 30 seconds .
Switching the ignition on/off
If you would like to switch the ignition on with­
out starting the engine, follow these steps:

warm up. Begin driving immediately . This re­
duces unnecessary emissions.

- Some noise after starting the engine is nor­
mal and is no cause for concern.
- If you leave your ve hicle with the ignition

ter a certa in amount of t ime. Make sure that

Steering lock1>
The steer ing locks when yo u tur n the eng ine off
u sing the
!S TAR T ENG INE S TOPI* button, move
the se lector lever into the P position and open
the driver's door. The locked steering helps pre ­
vent vehicle theft .
Emergency off function
If it i s absolutely necessa ry , the eng ine c an also
be turned off wh ile d riving at speeds starting at
4 mph (7 km/h) . To switch the engine off, press
the
I S T AR T ENGINE STOPI button twice in a row
briefly or press and ho ld for longer than two sec­
onds.

tery in the vehicle key is drained, if interference is

Driving
Start/Stop system
Description
Applies to: vehicles wit h Start/Stop system
The Start/Stop system can help increase fuel
economy and reduce CO2 emissions.
In Start/Stop mode, the engine shuts off auto ­
matically when the vehicle is stopped, such as at
a traffic light. The ignition remains switched on
during this stop phase. The engine w ill restart
automat ically when needed.
The Start/Stop system is automatically activated
as soon as the ignition is switched on.
Basic requirements for Start/Stop mode
-The driver's door must be closed .
- The driver's seat belt much be fastened.
- The hood must be closed.
- The vehicle must have driven faster than
2 mph
(3 km/h) since the last time it stopped.

Add ition al informa tion
The engine stops in the "P", "N" and "D" selector
lever positions .
If you select the "R" selector lever position during
a Stop phase, the engine will start again.
Shift to "P" quickly to prevent the engine from
starting unintentiona lly when shifting t hrough
IIRII.
You can determ ine for you rself if the engine will
stop or not by reducing or increasing the amount
of force you use to press the brake pedal. For ex­
ample, if you only light ly press on the brake ped­
al in stop-and-go traff ic or when turning, the en­
g ine will not switch off when the vehicle is sta­
tionary . As soon as you press the brake down
harder, the eng ine will switch off .

-Press the brake pedal during a Stop phase
to keep the veh icle from roll ing.
- The ignition will turn off if you press the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP ! button* during a
stop phase . The needle in the tachometer
moves into the

General information

Engine does not switch off
Before and during each stop phase, the system
checks if certa in cond itions have been met. If the
fjj i ndicato r light appears in the instr ument clus­
t er d isp lay, the engine w ill no t be s topped, for
examp le in the fo llowing situations:
1) Ma rket -spe cific

- T he engine has not reached the minim um re­
quired temperature for Start/Stop mode.
- The interior temperature selected by the cli-
mate control system* has not been reached.
- The ou tside tempe rat ure is extremely high/low.
- The windsh ield is being
defrosted® .
-The parking system* is switched on .
- The vehicle battery charge level is too low .
- The steering wheel is turned at a sharp angle or
is moving.
- After engaging the reverse gear.
- On sharp inclines .
- At high altitudes .
Engine automaticall y restarts
The standard Start/Stop mode w ill be canceled
d u ring a stop p hase in the following situat ions.
The eng ine res tarts witho ut any act ion by the
drive r.
- The vehicle ro lls, for example while on a slope .
- The interior temperature differs from the tem -
peratu re selected in the A/C system .
- The windsh ield is being
defrosted® .
-The brake pedal is pressed several times in a
row.
- The vehicle battery charge level is too low.
- Power consumption is hig h.

Ignition is switched off automaticall y
To prevent the vehicle battery from dra ining, the
i gnition will sw itch off
a ut omaticall y under the
fo llow ing cond it ions:
- The Start/Stop system has stopped the engine .
- The vehicle is stationary.
- You exited the vehicle .
In this case, the activated low beam is rep laced
by the pa rking light . The parking lights wi ll
switch off after approximately 30 minutes or
when you lock the veh icle.
