Introduction to vehicle gas (Bi- Fuel) *
Cars with Bi-Fuel engines can be driven on either vehicle gas or petrol. Vehicle gas can bebiogas or natural gas, or a mixture of the two.Vehicle gas is also called CNG (CompressedNatural Gas).
Methane is the main component in vehicle gas. In natural gas, the methane content varies between85% and 98%. In biogas, the content is almost100%. The tanks for vehicle gas are mounted under the floor in the cargo area and do not affect the nor-mal petrol tank. The system is tested in the same way as for pet- rol cars. The system is closed which means thatleaks are avoided during filling, for example. Thegas tanks are protected and are made to with-stand a collision. The gas is lighter than air, non-toxic and has a higher ignition temperature thanpetrol and diesel. The risk of fire or explosions inthe event of traffic accidents is therefore lowerthan with petrol and diesel. The tank is equipped with a safety valve that allows the gas to evacuate from the tank in theevent of abnormally high pressures. This valveensures that the tank cannot explode.
WARNING
In the event of an accident, the vehicle must be inspected and approved by an authorisedVolvo workshop before it may be used again.Always notify the emergency services on sitethat the vehicle is equipped with a CNG-sys-tem.
WARNING
Smoking and naked flames are prohibited during refuelling, service and repair work. Inthe event of a possible fire, leave the vehicleimmediately and stand a safe distance away. Do not under any circumstances disassemble or adjust the system or its component partsyourself. Carrying out such acts entails risk ofserious personal injury. All service and repairwork must therefore, for safety reasons, onlybe carried out by a trained mechanic - anauthorized Volvo workshop is recommended.
WARNING
If you smell gas in or around the vehicle, switch over to petrol immediately and havethe vehicle checked by the nearest trainedmechanics. If the car is placed in a spray/paint curing booth with a drying temperature higher than60 °C the system pressure must not exceed50 bar, check that the CNG tank is almostempty for this.

SAFETY

Safety
The vehicle is equipped with several safety sys- tems that work together to protect the vehicle'sdriver and passengers in the event of an acci-dent.
The car is equipped with a number of sensors that react in the event of an accident and activatedifferent safety systems, such as different typesof airbags and seatbelt tensioners. Depending onthe specific accident situation, such as collisionsat different angles, rollover or driving off the road, the systems react in different ways to provide thebest protection. There are also mechanical safety systems such as Whiplash Protection System. The car is alsoconstructed so that a large part of the force of acollision is distributed to beams, pillars, floor, roofand other parts of the body. The car's safety mode may be activated after a collision if an important function in the car hasbeen damaged.
Warning symbol in driver displayThe warning symbol is illuminated inthe driver display when the car's elec-trical system is set in ignition position II . The symbol is extinguished after
approx. 6 seconds if the car's safety system is fault-free.
WARNING
If the warning symbol remains illuminated or is switched on during driving and the mes- sage
SRS airbag Service urgent Drive to
workshop is shown in the driver display, it
means that part of one of the safety systems does not have full functionality. Volvo recom-mends that an authorised Volvo workshopshould be contacted as soon as possible.
If the specific warning symbol is broken then the general warning symbol is illu-minated instead and the driver displayshows the same message.

Safety during pregnancy It is important that the seatbelt is used correctly during pregnancy, and that pregnant driversadjust their seating position.

The diagonal section should wrap over the shoul- der then be routed between the breasts and tothe side of the abdomen. The lap section should lay flat over the thighs and as low as possible under the abdomen. – It mustnever be allowed to ride upward. Remove theslack from the seatbelt and ensure that it fits asclose to the body as possible. In addition, checkthat there are no twists in the seatbelt.

Starting/moving the car after safety mode
If the car is set in safety mode, it is possible to try to start and then move the car from a danger-ous position.
Starting the car after safety mode1. First, check that no fuel is leaking from the car. There must be no smell of fuel either. If everything seems normal and you have checked for indications of fuel leakage, youmay attempt to start the car.
WARNING
Never, under any circumstances, attempt to restart the car if it smells of fuel when the
Safety mode See Owner's manual mes-
sage is shown in the driver display. Leave the car at once.
2. Turn the start knob to STOP and release it. 3. Then try to start the car.
> The car's electronics carry out a systemscheck and then try to resume normal sta- tus.
IMPORTANT
If the message Safety mode See Owner's
manual is still shown on the display the car
must not be driven or towed but a vehicle recovery service must then be used instead.Even if the car appears to be driveable, hid-den damage may make the car impossible tocontrol once moving.
Moving the car after safety mode1. If the message Normal mode The car is
now in normal mode is shown in the driver
display after a start attempt, the car can be moved carefully out of a dangerous position.
2. Do not move the car further than necessary.
WARNING
If the car is in safety mode it must not be towed. It must be transported from its loca-tion. Volvo recommends that it is transportedto an authorised Volvo workshop.
