1. Park the vehicle in the shade whenever possible. Parking in the hot sun makes the vehicle interior extremely hot which thenrequires more time to cool. If it is neces- sary to park in the sun, open the windows for the first few minutes of air condition-ing to expel the hot air. 2. Afterwards, keep the windows closed when the air conditioner is in use. Theentry of outside air through open windows will reduce cooling efficiency.
3. When running the air conditioner, make sure the air intake, which is located infront of the windshield,
is free of obstruc-
tions such as leaves. Leaves collected in the air-intake chamber may reduce airflow and plug the water drains.
If the air conditioner seems less effective than usual, the cause might be a refrigerant leak. Have the system inspected by your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facilityof your choice.


While the “ ” indicator light is on, the air conditioning compressor
will run automati-
cally. The outside air
position will also be
selected and the blower
speed will be set at
the maximum automatically.
 If the “ ” indicator light is on, you cannot turn the air conditioner
off or select the recir-
culation position. This prevents the windowsfrom fogging up.  To defog quickly, direct the air flow from the side vents toward the door windows.  When defrosting, do not set the temperature to the maximum cool position. This will blow cool air on the
window glass and fog it
up.

 To listen to the audio system while the engine is not running, turn the ignitionswitch to the “ACC” ation mode in ACC. If the ignition switch
or the operation mode
is left in ACC, the accessory power willautomatically turn off after a certain period of time and you will no
longer be able to use
the audio system. The accessory powercomes on again if the ignition switch or the engine switch is opera
ted with it in the
“ACC” position. Refer to “ACC power auto-cutout function” on page 5-20 and 5-64.  If a cellular phone is used inside the vehicle, it may create noise in
the audio equipment.
This does not mean that anything is wrong with your audio equipment. In such a case,use the cellular phone at a place as far away as possible from the audio equipment.  If foreign objects or wa
ter get into the audio
equipment, or if smoke or a strange odor comes from it, immediately turn off theaudio system and have it checked at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice. Never try to
repair it yourself. Avoid using the audio sys- tem until it is insp
ected by a qualified per-

This explains care that should be taken in the handling of discs.  Fingerprints or other marks on the read surface of the disc may result in its con-tent being more difficult to read. When holding the disc, grip both edges, or one edge and the center hol
e, in order that the
read surface is not touched.  Do not affix paper or stickers, or other- wise damage the disc.  Do not forcefully insert a disc if another is already within the de
vice. This can result
in damage to discs, or malfunction.  Periodically clean the read surface of the disc. When cleaning,
do not wipe in a cir-
cular motion. Instead, wipe gently out-wards from the center of the disc to the outer edge.  New discs may have burring around the outer edge or in the hole in the center. Ensure you check for these. If there are burrs, these may lead to faulty operation,therefore ensure these are removed.
 When not using discs, ensure these are kept in cases, and stor
ed out of direct sun-
light.  If discs are not going to be used for a long period of time, remove these from theproduct.
In cold environments such as in mid-winter when the interior of the vehicle is cold, turn-ing the heater on and immediately trying to use the product may cause condensation (water droplets) to form on the disc and inter-nal optical components, and this may prevent the product from operating correctly. The reason why one can hear FM but not AM in parking garages, under
bridges etc., is that
FM signals, unlike AM
signals, are reflected
by solid objects such
as buildings, etc.
Because FM signals ar
e easily reflected by
buildings, this can also cause reception dis- turbances.The direct signal from
the broadcast station
reaches the antenna slightly before the reflected signal. This time difference may cause some reception disturbance or flutter. This problem occurs primarily in urban areas.
If one listens to a weak
station and is in the
vicinity of another st
rong station, both sta-
tions might be receiv
ed simultaneously.
Stereo reception requires a high quality broadcast signal. This means that types ofdisturbances mentioned previously become more marked and the reception range is somewhat diminished during stereo recep-tion.
FM reception is affected by the electrical sys- tems of vehicles in

If your vehicle breaks down on the road, move to the shoulder and turn on the hazard warning flashers. If there is no shoulder, orthe shoulder is not safe, drive in the right lane slowly with the hazard
lights flashing, until
you come to a safe stopping place. Keep theflashers flashing. If the engine stops, there will be no power assist to the steering and brakes, making these difficult to use.  The brake booster will not work, so the brakes will not grip well. The brake pedal will be harder to press than usual.  Since there is no power steering assist, the steering wheel will be hard to turn.
Get help from your passengers, bystanders, etc. to push the vehicle
and move it to a safe
area.

If the engine cannot be started because the battery is weak or de
ad, you can start it with
the battery from anothe
r vehicle using jumper
cables. 1. Take off any metal jewelry such as watch bands or bracelets th

3. Set the parking brake firmly on your vehi- cle and move the selector lever into the “P” (PARK) position. 4. Set the parking brake firmly on the othervehicle. Put the automatic transaxle in “P”5. charge after the engine has been started byusing jumper cables, th
e engine may misfire.
This can cause the anti-lock braking system warning light to blink on
and off. This is only
due to the low battery voltage. It is not a problem with the brake system. If this hap- pens, fully charge the battery and ensure the charging system is operating properly.

When the engine is overheating, the warningwill be displayed in th
e instrument cluster as
follows.  The information screen in the multi infor- mation display will be interrupted and the engine coolant temp
erature warning dis-
play will appear. Also “ ” will blink. (Color liquid crystal display type) lamp will illuminate.

If these warnings are displayed:
1. Stop the vehicle in a safe place. Turn on the hazard warning flashers.2. With the engine st

Charging the battery by using an external battery charger
WA R N I N G Always remove the
battery from your
vehicle when the battery is charged by an external battery charger. Keep sparks, cigarette
s, and flames away
from the battery because the battery couldexplode. Keep your work area well vented when charging or using
the battery in an
enclosed space. Remove all the caps before charging the battery. Electrolyte (battery acid) is made of corro- sive diluted sulfuric acid. If electrolyte comes in contact with your hands, eyes,clothes, or the pain
ted surface of your
vehicle, thoroughly
flush with water. If
electrolyte gets in your eyes, flush themimmediately and thor
oughly with water,
and get prompt medical attention. Always wear protective clothing and gog- gles when working near the battery. Keep the battery out of the reach of chil- dren.

6. When you do not see any more steam or spray, open the hood. Look for obviousleaks, such as a split radiator hose. Be careful as components will be hot. Any leak source must be repaired.7. If there is no obvious leak source, check the coolant level in the engine coolant reserve tank. If there is
none, or if it is too
low, slowly add coolant. 8. If the engine coolant reserve tank needs coolant, you will probably also need toadd coolant to the radiator. Do not loosen or remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooled down.
9. Start the engine, a
nd slowly add coolant,
up to the bottom of the filler neck. Use plain water if you have to (and replace itwith the right coolant as soon as possible).
10. Replace the radiator cap and tighten it
fully. Check the engine coolant tempera-ture display on the mu
lti information dis-
play (Color liquid crystal display type) or the high coolant temperature warninglight (Mono-color liqui
d crystal display
type). You can start driving again when the high coolant temperature warningdoes not come on.
