Position of the steering wheel when the
EASY-ENTRY/EXIT featureisactive
The steering wheel swings upwards when you:
Rremove the SmartKey from the ignition lock
Ropen the driver's door with KEYLESS-GO in
position1
Ropen the driver's door and the SmartKey is in
position0or 1in the ignition lock
iThe steering wheel only moves upwards if it
has not already reached the upper end stop.
Position of the steering wheel for driv-
ing
The steering wheel is moved to the last selected
position when:
Rthe driver's door is closed
Ryou insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock
or
Ryou press the Start/Stop button once on vehi-
cles with KEYLESS-GO
When you close the driver's door with the igni-
tion switched on, the steering wheel is also
automatically moved to the previously set posi-
tion.
The last position of the steering wheel is stored
when you switch off the ignition or when you
store the settingw ith the memory function
(
Ypage 91).
Crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature
If the crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature is trig-
gered in an accident, the steering column will
move upwards when the driver's door is opened.
This occurs irrespective of the position of the
SmartKey in the ignition lock. This makes it eas- ier to exit the vehicle and rescue the occupants.
The crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature is only
operational if the EASY-EXIT/ENTRY feature is
activated in the on-board computer
(
Ypage 174).

XAnti-glare mode: flick anti-glare lever :for-
wards or back.

Adjusting the exterior mirrors
GWARNING
You could lose control of your vehicle if you do the following while driving:
Radjust the driver's seat, head restraint,
steering wheel or mirrors
Rfasten the seat belt
There is arisk of an accident.
Adjust the driver's seat, head restraint,s teer-
ing wheel and mirror and fasten your seat belt before startin gthe engine.
GWARNING
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side reduces the size of the image. Visible
object sare actually closer than they appear.
This means that you could misjudge the dis-
tance from road users traveling behind, e.g.
when changing lane. There is arisk of an acci-
dent.
For this reason, always make sure of the
actual distance from the road users traveling
behind by glancing over your shoulder.

XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position1
or 2in the ignition lock.
XPress button :for the left exterior mirror or
button ;for the right exterior mirror.
The indicator lamp in the corresponding but-
ton lights up in red.
The indicator lamp goes out again after some
time. You can adjust the selected mirror using
adjustment button =as long as the indicator
lamp is lit.
XPress adjustment button =up, down, to the
right or to the left.
The exterior mirror must be set to aposition
that provides you with agood overview of
traffic conditions.
The convex exterior mirrors provide alarger field
of vision.
The exterior mirrors are automatically heated
after startin gthe vehicle if the rear window
defroster is switched on and the outside tem-
perature is low. Mirror heating lasts up to 10
minutes.
iYou can also heat up the exterior mirrors
manually by switching on the rear window
defroster.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
electrically
XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position 1
or 2in the ignition lock.
XBriefly press button :.
Both exterior mirrors fold in or out.
iMake sure that the exterior mirrors are
always folded out fully while driving. They
could otherwise vibrate.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
automatically
If the "Fold in mirrors when locking" function is
activated in the on-board computer
(
Ypage 174):
Rthe exterior mirrors fold in automatically as
soon as you lock the vehicle from the outside.
Rthe exterior mirrors fold out again automati-
cally as soon as you unlock the vehicle and
then open the driver's or front-passenger
door.
iThe exterior mirrors do not fold out if they
have been folded in manually.
Exterior mirror pushed out of position
If an exterior mirror has been pushed out of
position, proceed as follows:
XVehicles without electrically folding exte-
rior mirrors: move the exterior mirror into
the correct position manually.
XVehicles with electrically folding exterior
mirrors: press and hold mirror-folding button
until you hear the mirror click into place
(
Ypage 89).
The mirror housing is engaged again and you
can adjust the exterior mirrors as usual
(
Ypage 88).

rinse your mout hout thoroughly. Do no t
induce vomiting .

attention immediately.

RIf an allergic reaction occurs, see kmedical

The parking position is stored.
iIf you shif tthe transmission to another posi-
tion ,the exterio rmirror on th efront -
passenger side return stothedrivin gposition .
Usingthe memory button

You can position the front-passenger side exte-
rior mirror in suchaway that you can see the
rear wheel on that side as soon as you engage
reverse gear. This settin gcan be stored using
memory button M?.
XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position 2
in the ignition lock.
XWith the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side activated, use adjustment
button =to adjust the exterior mirror. In the
exterior mirror, the rear wheel and the curb
should be visible.
XPress memory button M? and one of the
arrows on adjustmentb utton=within three
seconds.
The parking position is stored if the exterior
mirror does not move.
XIf the mirror moveso ut of position, repeat the
steps.
Calling up astored parking position set-
ting
XTurn the SmartKey to position 2in the ignition
lock.
XAdjust the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side using button ;.
XEngage reverse gear.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side movestothe stored parking position.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger side
movesb ack to its original position:
Ras soon as you exceed aspeed of 9mph
(15 km/h)
Rif you press button :for the exterior mirror
on the driver's side
Memory function
Storing settings
GWARNING
If you use the memory function on the driver's side while driving, you could lose control of
the vehicle as aresult of the adjustments
being made. There is arisk of an accident.
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicle is stationary.
GWARNING
When the memory function adjust sthe seat or
steeringw heel, you and other vehicle occu-
pant s–p articularly children –could become
trapped. There is arisk of injury.
While the memory function is makin gadjust-
ments, make sure that no one has any body
partsint he sweep of the seat or steering
wheel. If somebody becomes trapped, imme-
diately release the memory function position
button. The adjustmentp rocess is stopped.
GWARNING
Children could becom etrapped if the yacti-
vate the memory function ,particularly when
unattended. There is arisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always tak ethe
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
The memory function can be used at any time,
e.g. even when the SmartKey isn' tinthe ignition
lock.
With the memory function ,you can store up to
three differents ettings, e.g. for three different
people.
The followings ettings are stored as asingle
memory preset:
Rposition of the seat, backrest and head
restraint
Rdriver's side: steeringw heel position
Rdriver's side: position of the exterior mirrors
on the driver's and front-passenger sides

XPress memory button Mand one of the stor-

seconds.
The settings ar estored in the selecte dpreset
position. Atone sounds when the settings
have been completed.

General notes
For reasonsofs afety, Mercedes-Ben zrecom-
mends that you driv ewith th elightss witched on
even durin gthe daytime. In somec ountries,
operatio noftheheadlamps varies due to legal
requirement sand self-imposedo bligations.

Automatic headlamp mode
GWARNING
When th elight switch is set to Ã,thelow-
beam headlamps may no tbeswitched on
automaticall yifthere is fog ,sno woro ther
causes of poor visibilityd ue to theweather
conditionss uchasspray. Thereisar isk of an
accident.
In suchs ituations,tur nt he light switch to
L.
The automatic headlampf eature is only an aid.
The driver is responsible for th evehicle's light-
ing at all times.

settin gisautomaticall yselecte daccording to
th eb rightnes softheambient light (exception:
poor visibilityd ue to weather conditionss uchas
fog ,sno wors pray):
RSmartKey in position 1in th eignition lock: the
parking lamps are switched on or off auto-
maticall ydependingont hebrightnes softhe
ambient light.
RWitht heengine running: if you have activated
th ed aytime runnin glamps function via the
on-board computer, th edaytime running
lamps or th eparking lamps and th elow-beam
headlamps are switched on or off automati-
cally dependingont hebrightnes softheambi-
ent light.
XTo switch on automatic headlamp mode:

Only for Canada:
The daytime runnin glamps improve th evisibility
of your vehicle durin gthe day. The daytime run-
nin glamps function is required by law in Can-
ada. It canno tthe refore be deactivate d.
When t

stationary: if you mov ethe selecto rleve rfro ma
driv eposition to P,thedaytime runnin glamps/
low-beam headlamps go out after three
minutes.
When th eengine is running, th evehicle is sta-
tionar yand in bright ambient light:ify ou turnthe
light switch to T,thedaytime runnin glamps
and parking lamps switch on.
If th eengine is runnin gand you tur nthe light
switch to L,themanual settings tak eprec-
edence ove rthe daytime runnin glamps.
USA only:

The daytime runninglamps improve the visibility
of your vehicle during the day. To do this, the
daytime runnin glamps function must be
switched on using the on-board computer
(
Ypage 172).
If the engine is runnin gand you turn the light
switch to TorL,t he manual settings
take precedenceo ver the daytime running
lamps.
Low-beam headlamps
GWARNING
When the light switch is set to Ã,the low-
beam headlamps may not be switched on
automatically if there is fog, snow or other
causes of poor visibility due to the weather
conditions such as spray. There is arisk of an
accident.
In such situations, turn the light switch to
L.
Even if the light sensor does not detect that it is
dark, the parking lamps and low-beam head-
lamps switch on when the ignition is switched on and the light switch is set to the Lposition.
This is aparticularly useful function in the event
of rain and fog.
XTo switch on the low-beam headlamps:
turn the SmartKey in the ignition lock to posi- tion 2or start the engine.
XTurn the light switch to L.
The green Lindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
Rear fog lamp
The rear fog lamp improves visibility of your
vehicle for the traffic behind in the event of thick
fog. Please take noteoft he country-specific
regulations for the use of rear fog lamps.
XTo switch on the rear fog lamps: turn the
SmartKey to position 2in the ignition lock or
start the engine.
XTurn the light switch to LorÃ.
XPress the Rbutton.
The yellow Rindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
XTo switch off the rear fog lamp: press the
R button.
The yellow Rindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster goes out.
Parking lamps
!If the battery charge is very low, the parking
lamps or standin glamps are automatically
switched off to enable the next engine start.
Always park your vehicle safely and suffi-
ciently lit according to legal standards. Avoid
using the parking lamps Toveraperiod of
several hours. If possible, switch on the right-
hand X or left-hand Wstandin glamp.
XTo switch on: turn the light switch to T.
The green Tindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster lights up.
Standing lamps
Switching on the standin glamps ensures the
corresponding side of the vehicle is illuminated.
XTo switch on the standing lamps: the
SmartKey is not in t
he ignition lock or it is in
position 0.
XTurn the light switch to W(left-han dside of
the vehicle) or X(right-hand side of the
vehicle).
Combination switch
:High-beam headlamps

XTo indicate briefly: press the combination
switch briefly to the pressure point in the
direction of arrow ;or?.
The corresponding turn signal flashes three
times.
