■Fuel tank opening for unleaded gasoline
To help prevent incorrect fueling, your vehicle has a fuel tank opening that only accom-
modates the special nozzle on unleaded fuel pumps.

WARNING
■When refueling the vehicle
Observe the following precautions while refueling the vehicle. Failure to do so may result in death or serious injury.
●After exiting the vehicle and before opening the fuel door, touch an unpainted metalsurface to discharge any static electricity. It is important to discharge static electricity before refueling because sparks resulting fr om static electricity can cause fuel vapors
to ignite while refueling.
●Always hold the grips on the fuel tank cap and turn it slowly to remove it. A whooshing sound may be heard when the fuel tank cap is loosened. Wait until the
sound cannot be heard before fully removing the cap. In hot weather, pressurized fuel may spray out the filler neck and cause injury.
●Do not allow anyone that has not discharged static electricity from their body to come
close to an open fuel tank.
●Do not inhale vaporized fuel. Fuel contains substances that are harmful if inhaled.
●Do not smoke while refueling the vehicle.Doing so may cause the fuel to ignite and cause a fire.
●Do not return to the vehicle or touch any person or object that is statically charged.
This may cause static electricity to build up, resulting in a possible ignition hazard.
■When refueling
Observe the following precautions to prevent fuel overflowing from the fuel tank:
●Securely insert the fuel nozzle into the fuel filler neck.
●Stop filling the tank after the fuel nozzle automatically clicks off.
●Do not top off the fuel tank.
NOTICE
■Refueling
Do not spill fuel during refueling. Doing so may damage the vehicle, such as causing the emission control system tooperate abnormally or damaging fuel system components or the vehicle’s painted sur-
face.

After refueling, turn the fuel tank cap
until you hear a click. Once the cap
is released, it will turn slightly in the
opposite direction.
Close the fuel filler door, and press
the center of the rear edge of the
fuel filler door until you hear a click.
When you lock the doors, the fuel filler door will also lock.
■When closing the fuel filler door
Do not lock the doors before closing the fuel filler door, as the fuel filler door cannot be closed if the doors are locked. If the doors are locked and the fuel filler door cannot be closed, unlock the doors and then close the fuel filler door.
■Fuel filler door lock condition
The fuel filler door may not be locked even wh en the vehicle’s doors are locked in the fol- lowing situations:
●When operating the door lock button inside the vehicle
●When the automatic door locking system is operated (P. 167)

◆When the shift lever is in D
■Stopping the engine
While driving with the shift lever in D,
depress the brake pedal and stop
the vehicle.
The Stop & Start indicator will come on.
■Restarting the engine
Release the brake pedal.
The Stop & Start indicator will turn off.
Stop & Start system (Smart Stop)
: If equipped
The Stop & Start system stops and restarts the engine according to the brake
pedal or shift lever operation when the vehicle is stopped.

◆When the shift lever is shifted to P
■Stopping the engine While driving with the shift lever
in D, depress the brake pedal and
stop the vehicle.
The engine will be stopped by the
Stop & Start system and the Stop &
Start indicator will come on.
Shift the shift lever to P.
( P. 253)
If the brake pedal is released, the
engine will remain stopped by the
Stop & Start system.
The engine may restart if the shift lever is shifted from D to P immediately after the
engine is stopped by the Stop & Start sy stem. Additionally, if the engine is not
stopped by the Stop & Start system when vehicle is stopped with the shift lever in
D, it may be stopped by the Stop & Start system when the shift lever is shifted to P.
■Restarting the engine
With the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever to a position other than P.
( P. 253)
If the brake pedal was released after the engine was stopped by the Stop & Start
system, the engine will restart when the brake pedal is depressed again. If the
brake pedal was not released after the engine was stopped by the Stop & Start sys-
tem, the engine will restart when the shift le ver is shifted to a position other than P.

Press the Stop & Start cancel switch to
disable the Stop & Start system.
The Stop & Start cancel indicator will
come on.
Pressing the switch again will enable the Stop & Start system and the Stop & Start
cancel indicator will turn off.
■Automatic reactivation of the Stop & Start system
Even if the Stop & Start system is disabled by the Stop & Start cancel switch, it
will be automatically re-enabled once the engine switch is turned off and then
the engine is started.
■If the Stop & Start cancel switch is pressed while the vehicle is stopped
●When the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system, pressing the Stop
& Start cancel switch will restart the engine.
From the next time the vehicle is st opped (after Stop & Start system has
been disabled), the engine will not be stopped.
●With the Stop & Start system disabl ed, pressing the Stop & Start cancel
switch will re-enable the system but not stop the engine.
From the next time the vehicle is st opped (after Stop & Start system has
been enabled), the engine will be stopped.
After the engine is stopped by the Stop & Start system when the vehicle is on an
incline, brake force is temporarily maintained to prevent rolling backwards until
the engine is restarted and drive force is generated.
When drive force is generated, the ma intained brake force is automatically
canceled.
●This function operates on flat surfaces as well as steep inclines.
●Sound may be generated from the brak es, but this is not a malfunction.
●Brake pedal response may change and vibration may occur, but these are not
malfunctions.
