DRINKING ALCOHOL/DRUGS AND
DRIVING
WARNING
Never drive under the influence of alcohol or
drugs. Alcohol in the bloodstream reduces co-
ordination, delays reaction time and impairs
judgement. Driving after drinking alcohol in-
creases the likelihood of being involved in an
accident injuring yourself and others. Addi-
tionally, if you are injured in an accident, alco-
hol can increase the severity of the injury.
INFINITI is committed to safe driving. However,
you must choose not to drive under the influ-
ence of alcohol. Every year thousands of people
are injured or killed in alcohol-related acci-
dents. Although the local laws vary on what is
considered to be legally intoxicated, the fact is that alcohol affects all people differently and
most people underestimate the effects of alco-
hol.
Remember, drinking and driving don’t mix! And
that is true for drugs, too (over-the-counter,
prescription, and illegal drugs). Don’t drive if
your ability to operate your vehicle is impaired
by alcohol, drugs, or some other physical con-
dition.
DRIVING SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Your INFINITI is designed for both normal and
off-road use. However, avoid driving in deep
water or mud as your INFINITI is mainly de-
signed for leisure use, unlike a conventional
off-road vehicle.
Remember that 2–wheel drive vehicles are less
capable than all-wheel drive (AWD) models for
rough road driving and extrication when stuck
in deep snow or mud, or the like.
Please observe the following precautions:
WARNING
•Spinning the front wheels on slippery sur-
faces may cause the AWD warning message
to display and the AWD system to automati-
cally switch from the AWD to 2WD mode.
This could reduce the traction. Be especially
careful when towing a trailer. (AWD models)
•Drive carefully when off the road and avoid
dangerous areas. Every person who drives
or rides in this vehicle should be seated
with their seat belt fastened. This will keep
you and your passengers in position when
driving over rough terrain.
•Do not drive across steep slopes. Instead
drive either straight up or straight down the
slopes. Off-road vehicles can tip over side-
ways much more easily than they can for-
ward or backward.
•Many hills are too steep for any vehicle. If
you drive up them, you may stall. If you drive
down them, you may not be able to control
your speed. If you drive across them, you
may roll over.
•Do not shift gears while driving on downhill
grades as this could cause loss of control of
the vehicle.
•Stay alert when driving to the top of a hill. At
the top there could be a drop-off or other
hazard that could cause an accident.
•If your engine stalls or you cannot make it to
the top of a steep hill, never attempt to turn
around. Your vehicle could tip or roll over.

3. Turn the key to the START position3in the
ignition lock and release it as soon as the
engine is running.
If the engine is very hard to start because it is
flooded, depress the accelerator pedal all the
way to the floor and hold it. Turn the ignition
switch to the START position to start cranking
the engine. After 5 or 6 seconds, stop cranking
by turning the ignition switch to OFF. After
cranking the engine, release the accelerator
pedal. Crank the engine with your foot off the
accelerator pedal by depressing the brake
pedal and turning the ignition switch to start
the engine. If the engine starts, but fails to run,
repeat the above procedure.CAUTION
Do not operate the starter for more than 15
seconds at a time. If the engine does not start,
turn the ignition key to the OFF position and
wait 10 seconds before cranking again, other-
wise the starter could be damaged.
4. Warm-up
Allow the engine to idle for at least 30
seconds after starting. Do not race the en-
gine while warming it up. Drive at moderate
speed for a short distance first, especially in
cold weather. In cold weather, keep the
engine running for a minimum of2-3
minutes before shutting it off. Starting and
stopping the engine over a short period of
time may make the vehicle more difficult to
start.
5. To stop the engine, Shift the transmission to position P (Park) by pressing the

button.
and turn the ignition switch to the OFF
position. NOTE
Care should be taken to avoid situations that can
lead to potential battery discharge and potential
no-start conditions such as:
•Installation or extended use of electronic
accessories that consume battery power
when the engine is not running (Phone char-
gers, GPS, DVD players, etc.)
•Vehicle is not driven regularly and/or only
driven short distances. In these cases, the
battery may need to be charged to maintain
battery health.

Automatic drive programs
Drive program E is characterized by the follow-
ing:
•Comfort-oriented engine settings.
•Optimal fuel consumption resulting from the
automatic transmission shifting up sooner.
•The vehicle pulling away more gently in
forward and reverse gears unless the accel-
erator pedal is depressed fully.
•Increased sensitivity. This improves handling
on slippery road surfaces, for example.
•The automatic transmission shifting up
sooner. This results in the vehicle being
driven at lower engine speeds and the
wheels being less likely to spin.
Drive program S is characterized by the follow-
ing:
•Sporty engine settings.
•The automatic transmission shifting up later.
•As a result of the later automatic transmis-
sion shift points, the fuel consumption pos-
sibly being higher.
Manual drive program
In manual drive program M, you can change
gear yourself by using the steering wheel gear-
shift paddles. For this, the transmission must
be in position D (Drive). The gear currently
selected and engaged is shown in the vehicle
information display
Manual drive program M differs from drive
programs E and S with regard to spontaneity,
responsiveness and smoothness of gear
changes.

wheel gearshift paddle (see Steering wheel
gearshift paddles later in this section).
Manual drive program M is temporarily ac-
tive. Depending on which gearshift paddle is
pulled, the automatic transmission immedi-
ately shifts into the next gear down or up.
When manual drive program M is activated via
the steering wheel gearshift paddles, the tem-
porarily active manual drive program M will be
deactivated automatically after a limited time, if

display. If this is the case, the Idle Stop/Start
function is not active.
If indicator lamp
2on ECO button1is off, the
Idle Stop/Start function has been deactivated
manually or as the result of a malfunction. The
engine will then not be switched off automati-
cally when the vehicle stops.
WARNING
Failure to follow the warnings and instructions
for proper use of the LDW system could result
in serious personal injury or death. The LDW
system will not steer the vehicle or prevent
loss of control. It is the driver’s responsibility
to stay alert, drive safely, keep the vehicle in
the traveling lane, and be in control of the
vehicle at all times.
The LDW system warns the driver with a warn-
ing light and intermittent steering vibration that
the vehicle is beginning to leave the traveling
lane. The LDW system uses a camera

behind the windshield to monitor the lane
markers of your traveling lane.

tion occurs if:
•You have switched on the turn signals. In this
event, the warnings are suppressed for a
certain period of time.
•A driving safety system intervenes, such as
ABS, brake assist system (BAS) or VDC.
When [Adaptive] is selected, no warning vibra-
tion occurs if:
•You have switched on the turn signals. In this
case the warnings are suppressed for a
certain period of time.
•A driving system intervenes, such as ABS,
BAS or VDC.
•You accelerate forcefully.
•You brake forcefully.
•You steer actively, for example, swerve to
avoid an obstacle or change lane quickly.
•You cut the corner on a sharp bend.
The system may detect certain conditions and
warns you accordingly. The warning vibration occurs earlier if:
•You approach the outer lane marking on a
bend.
•The road has very wide lanes, for example, a
freeway.
•The system detects solid lane markings.
The warning vibration occurs later if:
•The road has narrow lanes.
•You cut across a corner on a bend.
LDW SYSTEM LIMITATIONS
WARNING
Listed below are the system limitations for the
LDW system. Failure to operate the vehicle in
accordance with these system limitations
could result in serious injury or death.
•This system is only a warning device to in-
form the driver of a potential unintended
lane departure. It will not steer the vehicle
or prevent loss of control. It is the driver’s
responsibility to stay alert, drive safely,
keep the vehicle in the traveling lane, and
be in control of the vehicle at all times.

RADAR MAINTENANCE
The two radar sensor unitsAfor the BSW
system are located near the rear bumper. Al-
ways keep the area near the radar sensors
clean.
The radar sensors may be blocked by temporary
ambient conditions such as splashing water,
mist or fog.
The blocked condition may also be caused by
objects such as ice, frost or dirt obstructing the
radar sensors.
Check for and remove objects obstructing the
area around the radar sensors.
Do not attach stickers (including transparent
material), install accessories or apply addi-
tional paint near the radar sensors. Do not strike or damage the area around the
radar sensors. It is recommended you consult
an INFINITI retailer if the area around the radar
sensors is damaged due to a collision.

Cruise control maintains a constant road speed
for you. It brakes automatically in order to avoid
exceeding the set speed. You must select a
lower gear in good time on long and steep
downhill gradients, especially if the vehicle is
laden or towing a trailer.WARNING
For vehicles with automatic transmission, you
need to have selected manual drive program M
(see
Manual drive program earlier in this sec-
tion). By doing so, you will make use of the
braking effect of the engine. This relieves the
load on the brake system and prevents the
brakes from overheating and wearing too
quickly.
Use cruise control only if road and traffic con-
ditions are appropriate for maintaining a steady
speed for a prolonged period. You can set the
cruise control at any road speed above 20 MPH
(30 km/h).
The speed indicated in the speedometer may
differ slightly from the set speed.

WARNING
•If you fail to adapt your driving style, cruise
control can neither reduce the risk of an
accident nor override the laws of physics.
Cruise control cannot take into account
road, weather or traffic conditions. Cruise
control is only an aid. You are responsible
for the distance to the vehicle in front, for
vehicle speed, for braking in good time, and
for staying in lane.
•Always observe the posted speed limits and
do not set the speed over them.
•Do not use the cruise control when driving
under the following conditions. Doing so
could cause a loss of vehicle control and
result in an accident.– When it is not possible to keep the ve-
hicle at a constant speed
– When driving in heavy traffic
– When driving in traffic that varies speed
– When driving in windy areas
– When driving on winding or hilly roads
– When driving on slippery (rain, snow,
ice, etc.) roads
CRUISE CONTROL OPERATIONS

When you activate cruise control, the stored
speed is shown in the vehicle information dis-
play for five seconds.
Activation conditions
To activate cruise control, all of the following
activation conditions must be fulfilled:
•The electric parking brake must be released.
•You are driving faster than 20 MPH (30
km/h).
•VDC must be switched on, but not interven-
ing.
Storing, maintaining and calling up a
speed
Storing and maintaining the current speed:
You can store the current speed if you are
driving faster than 20 MPH (30 km/h):
1. Accelerate the vehicle to the desired speed.
2. Briefly press the cruise controller lever up
1or down3.
3. Remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.
Cruise control is activated. The vehicle auto-
matically maintains the speed.
NOTE
Cruise control may be unable to maintain the
stored speed on uphill gradients. The stored
speed is resumed when the gradient evens out.
Cruise control maintains the stored speed on
downhill gradients by automatically braking the
vehicle.

•ICC is not a collision avoidance or warning
device. For highway and freeway way use
only and not intended for congested areas
or city driving. Failure to apply the brakes
could result in an accident. It is the driver’s
responsibility to stay alert, drive safely, and
be in control of the vehicle at all times.
•Always observe posted speed limits and do
not set the speed over them.
•Always drive carefully and attentively when
using the ICC. Read and understand the
Owner’s Manual thoroughly before using
the ICC system. To avoid serious injury or
death, do not rely on the system to prevent
accidents or to control the vehicle’s speed
in emergency situations. Do not use the ICC
system except in appropriate road and traf-
fic conditions.
