Front seat-mounted side-impact
supplemental air bag and window
bag/roof-mounted curtain side-impact
and rollover supplemental air bag
systems
The side air bags are located in the outside of
the seatback of the front seats. The curtain air
bags are located in the side roof rails.All of the
information, cautions and warnings in this
manual apply and must be followed. The side air
bags and curtain air bags are designed to
inflate in higher severity side collisions, al-
though they may inflate if the forces in another
type of collision are similar to those of a higher
severity impact. They are designed to inflate on
the side where the vehicle is impacted. They
may not inflate in certain side collisions. Cur-
tain air bags are also designed to inflate in certain types of rollover collisions or near roll-
overs. As a result, certain vehicle movements
(for example, during severe off-roading) may
cause the curtain air bags to inflate.
Vehicle damage (or lack of it) is not always an
indication of proper side air bag and curtain air
bag operation.
When the side air bags and curtain air bags
inflate, a fairly loud noise may be heard, fol-
lowed by release of smoke. This smoke is not
harmful and does not indicate a fire. Care
should be taken not to inhale it, as it may cause
irritation and choking. Those with a history of a
breathing condition should get fresh air
promptly.
Side air bags, along with the use of seat belts,
help to cushion the impact force on the chest of
the front occupants. Curtain air bags help to
cushion the impact force to the head of occu-
pants in the front and rear outboard seating
positions in all rows. They can help save lives
and reduce serious injuries. However, an inflat-
ing side air bag or curtain air bag may cause
abrasions or other injuries. Side air bags and
curtain air bags do not provide restraint to the
lower body.
The seat belts should be correctly worn and the
driver and front passenger seated upright as far
as practical away from the side air bag. Rearseat passengers should be seated as far away
as practical from the door finishers and side
roof rails. The side air bags and curtain air bags
inflate quickly in order to help protect the
occupants. Because of this, the force of the side
air bags and curtain air bags inflating can
increase the risk of injury if the occupant is too
close to, or is against, these air bag modules
during inflation. The side air bag will deflate
quickly after the collision is over.
The curtain air bag will remain inflated for a
short time.
The side air bags and curtain air bags operate
only when the ignition switch is placed in the ON
position. After placing the ignition switch in the
ON position, the supplemental air bag warning
light illuminates. The supplemental air bag
warning light will turn off a few seconds after the
engine starts if the system is operational.
WARNING
•Do not place any objects near the seatback
of the front seats. Also, do not place any
objects (an umbrella, bag, etc.) between the
front door finisher and the front seat. Such
objects may become dangerous projectiles
and cause injury if a side air bag inflates.

Deactivating/activating VDC
:
The vehicle should be driven with the Vehicle
Dynamic Control (VDC) system on for most
driving conditions.
If the vehicle is stuck in mud or snow, the VDC
system reduces the engine output to reduce
wheel spin. The engine speed will be reduced
even if the accelerator is depressed to the floor.
If maximum engine power is needed to free a
stuck vehicle, turn the VDC system off.

1. Start the engine.
2. Press the
orbutton on the
steering wheel to select the [DriveAssist]
menu.
3. Press the
orbutton to select
[ESP]. 4. Press the button.
The current selection is displayed.
5. To activate/deactivate: press the button again.
VDC is deactivated if the
warning light
in the combination meter lights up continu-
ously when the engine is running.
If both the
warning light andwarning light are lit continuously, VDC is not
available due to a malfunction.
Activating/deactivating Forward Emergency
Braking
:
1. Press theorbutton on the
steering wheel to select the [DriveAssist]
menu.
2. Press the
orbutton to select
[Emergency Brake].
3. Press the button. The current selection is displayed.
4. To activate/deactivate: press the but- ton again.
When Forward Emergency Braking is deacti-
vated, the
symbol appears in the
vehicle information display in the assistance

Activating/deactivating Blind Spot Warning
(BSW)
:

To switch the alarm off with the key: press the
orbutton on the key. The alarm is
switched off
The alarm is not switched off, even if you close
the open door that has triggered it, for example.
WARNING
In freezing temperatures the washer solution
may freeze on the windshield and obscure your
vision which may lead to an accident. Warm
the windshield with the defroster before you
wash the windshield.
CAUTION
•Do not operate the washer continuously for
more than 30 seconds.
•Do not operate the washer if the window
washer fluid reservoir is empty.
•Do not fill the window washer reservoir tank
with washer fluid concentrates at full
strength. Some methyl alcohol based
washer fluid concentrates may permanently
stain the grille if spilled while filling the
window washer reservoir tank.
•Pre-mix washer fluid concentrates with wa-
ter to the manufacturer’s recommended lev-
els before pouring the fluid into the window
washer reservoir tank. Do not use the win-
dow washer reservoir tank to mix the
washer fluid concentrate and water. NOTE
•If the wiper operation is interrupted by snow
or ice, the wiper may stop moving to protect
its motor. If this occurs, turn the wiper switch
to the “OFF” position and remove the snow
or ice on and around the wiper arms. In
approximately 1 minute, turn the switch on
again to operate the wiper.
•Do not operate the windshield wipers when
the windshield is dry, as this could damage
the wiper blades. Moreover, dust that has
collected on the windshield can scratch the
glass if wiping takes place when the wind-
shield is dry.
•If it is necessary to switch on the wipers in
dry weather conditions, always operate them
using washer fluid.
•If the windshield wipers leave smears on the
windshield after the vehicle has been
washed in an automatic car wash, this may
be due to wax or other residue. Clean the
windshield with washer fluid after an auto-
matic car wash.

SWITCHING THE REAR WINDOW WIPER
ON/OFF
WARNING

When the rear window wiper is switched on,
the

section). The defroster switch
Boperates when the
ignition switch is in the ON position for the rear
window, and (if equipped) for the outside rear
view mirrors.
The defroster is used to reduce the moisture,
fog or frost on the rear window surface and on
the outside mirror surface to improve the rear
view.
When the defroster switch
is pushed, the
indicator light illuminates and the defroster
operates for several minutes. After the preset
time has passed, the defroster will turn off
automatically. To turn off the defroster manu-
ally, push the defroster switch
again, and
the indicator light turns off.

CAUTION
•When cleaning the inner side of the rear
window, be careful not to scratch or damage
the rear window defroster.
•When operating the defroster continuously,
be sure to start the engine. Otherwise, it
may cause the battery to discharge.
•When cleaning the inner side of the window,
be careful not to scratch or damage the elec-
trical conductors on the surface of the
window.The windshield de-icer switch (defogger switch)
Aoperates when the ignition switch is in the
ON position.
You can use this function to defrost the wind-
shield or to demist the inside of the windshield
and the side windows
NOTE
You should only select the windshield de-icer
function until the windshield is clear again.
When the switch
is pushed, the indicator
light in the switch illuminates. The climate
control system switches to the following func-
tions:
•High airflow
•High temperature
•Air distribution to the windshield and front
side windows
•Air recirculation mode off
NOTE
The “Windshield demisting” function automati-
cally sets the blower output to the optimum de-
misting effect. As a result, the airflow may in-
crease or decrease automatically after the
button is pressed
NOTE
You can adjust the blower output manually while
the “Windshield demisting” function is in opera-
tion: by adjusting the airflow control for the air-
conditioning or climate control system (see
Heater and air conditioner in the4. Display
screen, heater and air conditioner, and audio
system section).
To deactivate the de-icer:
•Press thebutton. The indicator lamp in
thebutton turns off. The previous
settings are reactivated. Air-recirculation
mode remains deactivated.

•Automatic climate control: press the
button. The indicator lamp in the

WARNING
•Make sure that all passengers have their
hands, etc. inside the vehicle while it is in
motion and before closing the windows. Use
the window lock switch to prevent unex-
pected use of the power windows.
•To help avoid risk of injury or death through
unintended operation of the vehicle and or
its systems, including entrapment in win-
dows or inadvertent door lock activation, do
not leave children, people who require the
assistance of others or pets unattended in
your vehicle. Additionally, the temperature
inside a closed vehicle on a warm day can
quickly become high enough to cause a sig-
nificant risk of injury or death to people and
pets.
The switches for all side windows are located on
the driver’s door. There is also a switch on each
door for the corresponding side window The
switches on the driver’s door take precedence.
Auto-reverse function
The auto-reverse function can be activated
when a window is closed by automatic opera-
tion. Depending on the environment or driving condi-
tions, the auto-reverse function may be acti-
vated if an impact or load similar to something
being caught in the window occurs.
WARNING
There are some small distances immediately
before the closed position which cannot be
detected. Make sure that all passengers have
their hands, etc., inside the vehicle before
closing the window.
If the vehicle’s battery is disconnected, re-
placed, or jump started, the power window
auto-reverse function may not operate properly.
If this occurs, it is recommended you visit an
INFINITI retailer to re-initialize the power win-
dow auto-reverse system.
If the control unit detects something caught in a
window equipped with automatic operation as
it is closing, the window will be immediately
lowered.
Driver’s window switch
The power windows operate when the ignition
switch is in the ON position. 1. Front left side window
2. Front right side window
3. Rear left side window
4. Rear right side window
The driver’s switch, the main switch, can control
all windows.
•To open manually: press and hold the corre-
sponding button.
•To open fully: press the button beyond the
point of resistance to the second detent and
release it. Automatic operation is started.
•To close manually: pull the corresponding
button and hold it.
•To close fully: pull the button beyond the
point of resistance and release it. Automatic
operation is started.
