RefuelingVehicle

options
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.
General
information
Observe the fuel recommendation, refer to
page 212, prior to refueling.
Diesel
engines The filler neck is designed for refueling at die#j
sel fuel pumps.
Safety
information NOTE
With a range of less than 30 miles/50 km
it is possible that the engine will no longer have sufficient fuel. Engine functions are not en#jsured anymore. There is a risk of propertydamage. Refuel promptly.'

2.Close the fuel filler flap.
WARNING
The retaining strap of the fuel cap can be
jammed and crushed during closing. The cap cannot be correctly closed. Fuel or fuel vapors
can escape. There is a risk of injury or risk of property damage. Pay attention that the retain#j
ing strap is not jammed or crushed when clos#j ing the lid.'

Fuel
recommendation
General
information Depending on the region, many gas stations
sell fuel that has been customized to winter or
summer conditions. Fuel that is available in
winter, e.g., helps make a cold start easier.
Gasoline
General
information For the best fuel efficiency, the gasolineshould be sulfur-free or very low in sulfur con#jtent.
Fuels that are marked on the gas pump as con#j taining metal must not be used.
Fuels with a maximum ethanol content of
10 %, i. e., E10, may be used for refueling.
Ethanol should satisfy the following quality
standards:
US: ASTM 4806#mxx
CAN: CGSB-3.511#mxx
xx: comply with the current standard in each
case.Safety

NOTE
Do not press the Start/Stop button after
refueling with the wrong fuel. Furthermore, the
catalytic converter is permanently damaged.
There is a risk of property damage. Do not re#j fuel or add the following in the case of gasoline

Have
the
diesel
exhaust
fluid
replenished
BMW recommends that diesel exhaust fluid be added by the dealer#ss service center within thecourse of regular maintenance.
In addition it may be necessary to have the fluid replenished several times under particular
circumstances, e.g., if the vehicle is driven in a
particularly sporty style or if it is driven at high
altitudes.
The diesel exhaust fluid must be replenished
as soon as the reserve display appears in the instrument cluster to avoid not being able to
restart the engine.

at
low
temperatures
Due to its physical properties, it is possiblethat the diesel exhaust fluid may also need to
be replenished between regular maintenance
appointments if it is exposed to temperatures
under + 23 #

eyes. There is a risk of injury. Do not inhale es#jcaping ammonia fumes. Avoid the contact ofarticles of clothing, skin or eyes with diesel ex#j
haust fluid. Do not swallow any diesel exhaust
fluid. Keep children away from diesel exhaust
fluids.'

The tank is full when the fill level in the bot#j
tle no longer changes. It is not possible to overfill.5.Pull back the bottle, see arrow, and un#jscrew it.6.Replace the fuel cap and turn it clockwise.7.Close the hood.
Filling
with
an
incorrect
fluid
Information WARNING
After adding an incorrect fluid, e.g., anti#j
freeze for washer fluid, the system can heat
and ignite. There is a risk of fire and injuries. Do not add incorrect fluids. Do not start the en#jgine after adding an incorrect fluid.'
