should not be switched
off using the Start/Stop
button because the engine cannot be started
again after the ignition has been switched
off.

warning tone sounds. A driver message appears
as well to exp la in the ma lfunction in more deta il.
The driver wa rning goes out after about 5 sec­
onds, but it can be brough t up at any t ime by
pressing the
I S ET I button again .
Check the funct ion disp layed as soon as possible.
The yellow symbol w ill not go o ut again until the
reason for the malfunct io n has been corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present, the
symbo ls appear in succession and remain for
about 2 seconds.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with re­ mote control. A mechanical key is integrated in
the master key

The emergency key is not intended for constant
use . It should only be used in an emergency , for
example, in place of the ignition key

carry it on your key ring or store it in the vehicle.
Key replacement

Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Number of keys
You can inquire about the number of assigned
keys to your vehicle
Q page 9. This allows you to
make sure you have received all of the keys when
you purchase a used vehicle. Depending on the
vehicle equipment level, this function may also
be performed in the MMI*. To do this, select:

Your Audi service adviser can read out this data
and tell you about the work your veh icle needs.
This applies also to vehicles with Convenience key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master key. When the ignition is turned off or when the
vehicle is locked, personal convenience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate control
- Central locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive select*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the
doors or when you turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
-.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock . Entry by unau­
thorized persons could endanger you or re­
sult in theft or damage the vehicle . Always
lock all doors and take the key .
- Do not leave children unattended in the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys.
Unguarded access to the keys provides chil­
dren the opportunity to start the engine
and/or activate vehicle systems such as the
power windows etc. Unsupervised operation
of any vehicle system by children can result
in serious injury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering column
lock could suddenly engage -causing the
risk of an accident.

Emergency unlocking of the ign ition key
In the event of malfunctions in the electrical sys­
tem, it may happen that you cannot remove the
ignition key.

If you are unable to remove the ignition key, for
examp le because the vehicle battery is dis­
charged, proceed as follows:
.. Press the release button@¢

the mechanical key @ out of the master key .
.. Lock the vehicle using the mechanical key

.. Have the electrical system inspected by an au­
thorized Aud i dealership.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthorized
use of your vehicle.
Inside the key there is a computer chip. This chip
automatically deactivates the electronic immo­
b ilizer when you insert the key in the ignition
lock . When you remove the key from the ignition
lock, the electronic immobilizer is automatically
activated once aga in .
(D Tips
- The vehicle cannot be started if an unau­
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is lo­
cated on the key ring.

Opening and closing
Central locking
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally. You have the following choices:
- Remote master key
c::> page 3 7
- Door hand les with Convenience key*
c::> page 3 7,
-Lock cylinder at the driver's door ¢ page 38,
or
- Power locking switch inside
¢ page 39 .
Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking sys ­
tem will lock the doors and the rear lid. When
unlocking, you can set in the radio or in the MMI*
whether
only the driver's door or the entire vehi­
cle should be unlocked

Automatic locking
The automatic locking feature locks all the vehi ­
cle doors and the rear lid when you drive faster
than
9 mph (15 km/h).
The car is unlocked again once the ignition key is
removed . In addition, the vehicle can be unlocked
if the opening funct ion in the power locking sys­
tem switch or at one of the door levers is actuat­
ed .
Additionally, in the event of a crash with airbag
deployment the doors are automatica lly un­
locked to allow access to the vehicle.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the anti-theft alarm warning system detects a
break-in into the veh icle, acoustic and visual
warning signals are triggered.
The anti-theft warning system is activated auto­
matically when you lock the vehicle . It is deacti­
vated when unlock ing using the
remote key, with
the
mechanical key , and when you switch on the
ignition .
The alarm also turns off when the alarm cycle has exp ired.

If the vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear lid
or the hood is opened within 60 seconds, the ve­
h icle locks itself aga in automatically . This feature
prevents the vehicle from being accidentally left
un locked over a long period of time.
It depends on the settings in the rad io or in the
MMI* whether the entire vehicle is unlocked or
only certain doors ¢

On vehicles with Convenience key*, the selector
lever must be in the P position, otherwise the ve­
h icle cannot be locked .

(D Tips
-In order to make sure the locking function is
working, you should a lways keep your eye
on the vehicle to make sure it is proper ly
locked.
- Do not use the remote control if you are in­
side the car, otherwise you may uninten­
tionally lock the vehicle, and then you would set off the anti -theft alarm when you try to
start the eng ine or open a door . In case this
happens anyhow, push the unlock button@.
- Use the pan ic function only if you are in an
emergency situation .
Locking and unlocking with Convenience
key
Applies to: vehicles with Convenience key
The doors and the rear lid con be unlocked and
locked without operating the master key.

Programming the button: Part 1 with the
controls
1. Switch the ignition o n.
2 . Press and ho ld both outer buttons in the roof
headliner

des that were set at the factory and does

Programm ing mode is ac tive for 5 minutes .
5 . Move in front of yo ur vehicle while holding
the orig inal remote contro l for the system
that would like to program to a button in the
roof headliner.

6 . Hold the remote control up to the radiator
grille on your vehicle¢

8 . If t he emergen cy f lashers blink th ree times,
the progr amming wa s suc cessful.

5 minute time limit for t he p rogramm ing has
ended o r the programm ing was not success­
f ul. Repeat the programming from the third
step, o r try changing the distance to the radi­
ator grille.

9 . If the garage door or o ther sys tem does not
open using the b uttons in the roof head liner
even tho ugh the programming was success­
ful, the system may use a ro lling code in­
stead of a fixed code.

The other two buttons in the roof hea dliner can
be programmed according to the inst ruct ions
above. Beg in with the third step.
Eras ing button prog ramming
T he programmed but tons can not be erased in di­
vidually . They must a ll be erase d together . Re­
program the buttons if necessary .

headliner until the LED @turns off complete ly
(after about 20 seconds).
Reprogramming the buttons
"' Swit ch th e ignit ion on.
"' To reprogram an indivi dual but ton, p ress and
hold the button unti l the LED @starts to flash
quickly (afte r about 10 seconds) . Release the
button immediate ly. Prog ramming mode is ac­
tive for 5 m inutes.

- Prog ramming using the buttons in t he roof
head liner is not poss ible with a ll Infota in­

"' It is possible that there will be a slight de lay
when starting the engine for diesel vehicles* in
colder temperatures. Therefore, you must hold
the brake pedal down until the eng ine starts.

Switching the ignit ion on /off
If you would like to switch the ign ition on with­
out starting the engine, fo llow these steps:
"' Inse rt the key into the igni tion lock .
"' Press the key briefly
without press the brake
pedal.
"' To switch the ignition off, press the key aga in.
Diese l vehicles * are p reheate d while the ignition
is switched on.
W hen start ing the e ngine, major elec trical loads
are swi tched off temporarily.
You can only remove the key with the ignition
sw itched off. To do this, yo u have to press on the
key again.
I f the engine sho uld not start immed iately, the
s tarting p rocess is a utomat ica lly stopped after a
short t ime. Repeat sta rt ing procedu re .

A WARNING
- Never allow t he engine to ru n in confined
spaces - dange r of asphyxiation .
- Never remove the ig nit ion key from the ign i­
t ion loc k w hile the veh icle is moving . Other­
wise, the steering lock cou ld sudde nly en­
g age and you would not be able to stee r the
vehicle.
- Always ta ke the key with you w henever you
leave yo ur vehicle. Othe rw ise, the engi ne
c ould be s tar ted or ele ctrica l e qui pme nt
s u ch as the power windows cou ld be operat ­
ed. This can lead to se rious i njury.

sistance unattended i n the vehicle. The

Starting the vehicle with the emergency
key
You can use the emergency key as an ignition key
in an emergency .

the adapter . Make sure that the Audi r ings are
facing up .
.. Press the emergency key in the adapter down
until it latches audib ly.
.. Inse rt the adapter wi th the emergency key for­
ward into the ign ition switch. The engine can
now be started as usual.
@ Tips
The emergency key should not be sto red in­
side the vehicle.
Stopping the engine
.. Bring the vehicle to a full stop.
.. Move the selector lever to the P or N pos ition .
.. Press on the ignition key . The engine is turned
off.
.. You can now remove the key .

T he s teeri ng locks when yo u remove the ignition
k ey . The locked steering he lps prevent vehicle
theft .
Emergency off
If it is necessary in unusua l circumstances, the
engine can be switched off wh ile the vehicle is
moving. The engine will be swi tched off if you
press on the key for an extended period.
A WARNING ~
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steer ing is not guaranteed. You must use
more force to turn or brake if necessary . Be ­
cause yo u cannot steer and brake as you
usually would, this cou ld lead to crashes
and se rio us i njur ies.
- For safety reasons, you should always park
your veh icle w ith the selector lever i n P.
Otherw ise, the vehicle could inadve rten tly
ro ll aw ay.
- The radiator fa n can cont inue to run for up
t o 10 minutes even after you have turned
off the engine and removed the ignition key .
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the engine coolant heats up because of intense
sunlig ht or heat build-up in the eng ine com­
partment .
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle . Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat­
ed . T his can lead to ser ious injury .
- Never leave children or persons requiring as­
sistance unattended in the vehicle. T he
doors can be locked using the remote t rans­
mitter, pr eve nti ng peop le from escaping
from t he vehicle on their own in the even t of
a n emergency. Depe nding on the time of
year, peo ple i nside the ve hicle can be ex­
posed to very high o r very low tempera ­
tures .
