this model. It contains important information,
tips, suggestions and warn ings for using your ve­
hicle.
Keep this manual in your vehicle at all times . This
is especially important if you loan your vehicle to
others or sell it.
This owner's manua l describes the

specified for th is mode l at the time of
printing. Individua l equipment options described
may on ly be available at a later date or may only
be offered in certain countries.
Some sect ions in this manua l do not apply to all

The brake system will still respond even with­
out the assi stance of the ABS system. See your
authorized Audi dealer as soon as possible to re­
store full braking performance.

The ABS warning light and the brake warning
light come on together. The ABS w ill not work
and you will not ice a change in braking re ­
sponse and performance.
Malfunction in the brake system
I f the b rake warning light¢ page 15 and the
ABS warning ill uminate
together there may be a
mal funct ion in the ABS, and there may also be a
malfunct ion in the brake system itself

Malfunction in the electronic differential
lock (EDL)
The EDL works togethe r with the ABS . The ABS
war ning light w ill come on if there is a ma lf u nc­
tion in the EDL sys tem

- If t he 9 (U SA m odels)/ KO'A els) warn ing ligh t does not go o ut, o r if i t
comes on w hile driving, the ABS sy stem is
not wo rking prope rly . The vehicle can then
be stopped on ly with the standard brakes
(without ABS). You w ill not have the protec­
t io n ABS p rovides . Contact yo ur aut horized
Audi dealer as soon as poss ible .
- If the
1111 (USA models) . (Canada mod ­

The warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
tromechanical parking brake.
Wi th the pa rking bra ke app lied and the ig nit io n
tu rned on , the . (USA models)/ . (Cana-
da models) warning/indicator light illum inates .
A fter the ignition has been turned off, t he warn ­
ing/indicato r light continues to ill uminate for
abo ut 30 seconds . If the parki ng brake is applied
with the igni tion turned off, the warn ing/ indica­
tor light ill uminates for about 30 secon ds.
The wa rning/i ndicator lig ht wi ll go out when the
parking brake is released .
If the warning/ind icator light flashes continuous ­
ly
after applying the par king b rake, bra king force
is not sufficient to prevent the vehicle from roll­
ing unintentionally . P lease note the following :
- If the slope of the grou nd is too steep to park
the vehicle, the add it iona l drive message ap­
pea rs
Caution: Vehicle parked too steep .
-In the event o f a pa rking brake mal function,
the yellow
liJ symbol appears in the instru ­
ment cluste r display and the driver message
Parking brake malfunction! is d isplayed . Have
t he malfunction repaired as soon as poss ible by
an au thor ized A udi dealer or any ot her qualified
workshop.
BRAKE /(Q) ) Brake system
Th e warning/indicator light flashes if brak e fluid
level is lo w, if there is an AB S system malfunc­
tion or a p arking brake malfun ctio n.

case , contact an autho rized Audi deale r.

If the ABS fails, the ABS warning/indicator light

When the light comes on, an audib le warning sig ­
na l is also given .
A WARNING
-If the 1111 (USA models) . (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicator light t urns on to­
gether with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function may
have failed . Functions that stab ilize the ve­
hicle a re no longe r available . This could
ca use the vehicle to swerve and increase the
risk of sliding. Drive ca refully to t he nearest
autho rize d Aud i dealer or other quali fied
workshop and have the ma lfunction co rrect ­
ed.
- If the bra ke warn ing/indicator light does
not go out after a few seconds and the park­
ing brake is released, or lights up while you
are driving, the flu id leve l in the brake fluid
reservoir is too low. If you believe that it is
safe to do so, proceed immediately at low
speed to the nearest authorized Audi dealer
o r qualified repair facility and have the
bra ke system inspected.
- Always keep in mind tha t afte r severa l brake
applications, you will need greate r pressure
o n the brake pedal to stop yo ur vehicle. Do
not rely on straine d brakes to respond w ith
maximum stopping power in criti cal situa ­
tions . You must allow for increased braking

distances. The extra distance used up by
fading brakes co uld lead to an accident .

Outside temperature display

At temperatures below 39 °F (+4 °C), a snowflake
symbol appears in front of the temperature dis ­
p lay . It is intended to remind the driver to pay
specia l attent ion to
ic e on th e ro ad .
If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are driving at
a very low speed, the temperature shown in the
display m ight be slightly higher than the act ual
outside temperature . T his is caused by the heat
be ing rad iated from the engine.
The unit of measurement for the temperature can be set in either °For in °Con the MMI* or on
the radio control un it. The outside temperatu re
d isp lay automatically shows the unit of measure­
ment that has been set. For add itional informa ­
tion, see the
MMI* or the rad io instruction man ­
ual.
A WARNING
- Never use the outside temperature display
to determine if a road surface is icy or not.
Keep in mind that road surfaces , especially
bridges and overpasses, could be ice cov­
ered and slippery even at an outside tem ­
perature above 39 °F (+4 °C) .
- Always remember, even if the "snowflake"
symbol ( ice warn ing) does not appear in the
display, black ice could be on the road .
-Always red uce your speed and drive with
special care in cold weather cond itions when
t h e chance of encounter ing icy road surfaces
increases.

Digital speedometer

Current speed appears in the display . Speed is
shown in
1 mph increments (USA models) or 1
km/h i ncrements (Canada models) .
You can switch the display from miles to k ilome­
ters and v ice versa via the radio or MM!*.
Open door or trunk lid warning
The pictogram alerts you when doors or the
trunk lid have been left open .

't=?: Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immediate service or repair. Driving with a
low oil pressure indication is likely to cause se­
vere engine damage .
If the . symbol on the display flashes, the en ­
g ine oi l pressure is too low. A d river message ap ­
pears as well to explain t he malfunction in mo re
deta il. Th e d river war ning goes ou t afte r abo ut 5
s econds, but it can be b ro u gh t up at any time by
p ressing the
ISET I button again.
Turn off engine! Oil pressure too low
• Stop t he ve hicle .
• Turn the eng ine
off.
• Check the eng ine oi l level ¢ page 221.
• Co ntact yo ur autho rized Aud i dea le r for assis-
tance if necessary.
Engine oil level too low
If the engine o il level is too low, add eng ine oi l

Engine oil level correct

oil leve l is correct, p lease contact your nea rest
author ized Audi Dealer for assistance. Do not
continue dr iv ing .
Do not leave the eng ine running
idle, either .
@ Tips
- The engine oil pressure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rely on it. Instead, check the oil level in
your engine at regular intervals, preferably
each time you refuel, and always before
going on a long trip.
- The yellow oil level warning indication

@-Steering malfunction
If there is a malfunction in the electronic steer ­
ing column lock, the steering cannot be un­
locked.
If the . symbo l in the disp lay bli nks, t here is a
malfunction in t he electronic stee ring col umn
l ock. A driver message appears as we ll to exp la in
t h e malfunction i n mo re detail. The dr ive r warn­
ing goes out afte r about 5 seconds , but it can be
broug ht up a t any time by press ing the
ISETI but ­
ton aga in.

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with re­ mote control. A mechanical key is integrated in
the master key

@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for constant
use . It should only be used in an emergency , for
example, in place of the ignition key
9 page 83. Keep it in a safe place and do not
carry it on your key ring or store it in the vehicle.
Key replacement
If you lose a key, con tac t your au thori zed Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disabled .
Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Number of keys
You can inquire about the number of assigned
keys to your vehicle
Q page 9. This allows you to
make sure you have received all of the keys when
you purchase a used vehicle. Depending on the
vehicle equipment level, this function may also
be performed in the MMI*. To do this, select:

Your Audi service adviser can read out this data
and tell you about the work your veh icle needs.
This applies also to vehicles with Convenience key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master key. When the ignition is turned off or when the
vehicle is locked, personal convenience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate control
- Central locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
- Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive select*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the
doors or when you turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
-.
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock . Entry by unau­
thorized persons could endanger you or re­
sult in theft or damage the vehicle . Always
lock all doors and take the key .
- Do not leave children unattended in the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys.
Unguarded access to the keys provides chil­
dren the opportunity to start the engine
and/or activate vehicle systems such as the
power windows etc. Unsupervised operation
of any vehicle system by children can result
in serious injury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering column
lock could suddenly engage -causing the
risk of an accident.

be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters in the vicinity of the .,.

You will find a power lock ing switch in each door .
You can
lock and unlock the vehicle using the
sw itches in the drive r's or passenge r's door
c=;, fig. 31. Yo u can only lock th e vehicle using the
switches in the rear doors . If you lock the vehicle
using the power locking switch, please note the
following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid from
the
outside (increased security, for example
when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switches illum i­
nate when all the doors are closed and locked.
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the doors
from the inside by pulling on the door handle .
- Rear doors: pull the doo r hand le
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the hand le
again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activated,
the doors automatically unlock.
A WARNING
-The power locking switch works with the ig­
nition off and automatically locks the entire
vehicle when it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inoperative.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts Lives at risk. Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially children .

Emergency locking of the doors
Each door must be locked separately if the pow­
er locking sys tem fails.

An eme rgency lock is located on the front end of
the passenger's door and the rear doors (o nly
visible when door is open).

.. Insert the key in the inside slot and turn it all
the way to the right (rig ht door) or left ( left
door).
Once the door has been closed, it can no longer
be opened from the outside. The door can be
opened from the inside by pu lling the door han­
dle. If the child safety lock in a rear door is acti­
vated , you must first pull the door handle on the
inside . Then you can open the door from the out­
s ide .

A WARNING
-After closing the rear lid, always pull up on
it to make sure that it is properly closed .
Otherwise it could open suddenly when the
vehicle is mov ing .
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the veh icle, always keep
the rear lid closed while driving. Never
t ransport objec ts larger than those whi ch fit

completely into the luggage area, because
then the rear lid cannot be fully closed.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended espe­
cially with the rear lid left open. A child
could crawl into the car through the luggage
compartment and pull the lid shut, becom­
ing trapped and unable to get out . To re ­
duce the risk of personal injury, never let
children play in or around your vehicle. Al­
ways keep the rear lid as well as the vehicle
doors closed when not in use .
- Always ensure that no one is within range of
the rea r lid when it is moving, in part icu lar
close to the hinges - finge rs or hands can be
pinched.
(D Tips
When the vehicle is locked, the luggage com­
partment lid can be unlocked separate ly by
pressing the button~ on the master key.
When the luggage compartment lid is closed
again, it locks automatically.
