Activating remote control key memory
Applies to: vehicles with seat memory
To assig n the drive r's seat settings to the remote
con trol key when locking the vehicle , the function
must be act ivated in the ra dio or M MI* .

Rear seat
General information
Safe transportation of passengers on the rear
seats requires proper safety precautions .
All passengers on the rear seats must be sea ted
in comp lia nce w it h the safety guidelines ex ­
p la ined in
<=;> page 140 and .:;,page 148. The co r­
r ect seating posit ion is critical for the safety of
fron t
and rear seat passenge rs al ik e r::!;> page 134 .
A WARNING
- Occupan ts in the fro nt and rear sea ts m ust
always be properly res trai ned.
- Do not let anyone ri de in t he vehicle with ou t
th e head restra ints prov ided. He ad re­
st raints help to reduce injuries.
- L oose i tems inside the passenger compa rt­
ment, can f ly forwa rd in a cras h or sudden
maneuver and injure occupants. Always
store articles in the luggage compartment
and use the fasten ing eyes , especia lly when
the rear seatbacks have been folded down.

-Whenever driving, never place any hard or
heavy objects on the luggage compartment
or allow pets to sit on the luggage compart­
ment cover. They could become a hazard to
vehicle occupants in the event of sudden braking or in an accident.
(D Note
You could damaged a stored luggage com­
partment cover when you move the rear seat
or rear seat backrest.
@ Tips
- You can use the luggage compartment cov­
er to store light weight clothing or articles
but do not leave any heavy or sharp objects
in the pockets of the clothing.
- Remember that placing clothing or articles on the luggage compartment cover can
block the driver's vision in the rear view mir­
ror. This also applies especially when you
have to transport large objects.
- So that stale air can escape from the vehicle
be sure not to cover the ventilation slot be­
tween the rear lid and the luggage compart­
ment cover.
Double cargo floor
You can store dirty or wet objects under the car­
go floor.

- When you are driving make sure that any­
thing you may have placed in the center con­
sole or other storage locations cannot fall out into the footwells. In case of sudden
braking you would not be able to brake or
accelerate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view.
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
we ight cloth ing. Never hang any clothing
with hard, pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passengers inside the vehicle.
Glove compartment
The glove comportment is illuminated and can
be locked.

To close glove compartment
.,. Push the glove compartment lid upward until
the lock engages.
There are holders for a pen and a pad of paper in
the glove compartment lid.
On the right side in the glove compartment is a holder with the key body into which the emergen­
cy key must be clipped to be able to start the ve­
hicle.
Seats and storage
A WARNING
-To reduce the risk of personal injury in an acci-
dent or sudden stop, always keep the glove
compartment closed while driving.
Cooling box in glove compartment
The cooling box works only when the air-condi­
tioning is in cooling mode.

Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
The climate control system warms , cools and
adds humidity to the a ir in the veh icle inter ior. It
i s the most effective when the windows and pan­
oramic sliding sunroof* ar e closed. If th ere is a
bui ld-up of heat inside th e vehicle, ventilation
can help to sp eed up th e cooling process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost, the
b lower only switches to a higher speed once the
engine coolant has reached a certain tempera­
ture .
Condensat ion from the cooling system can drip
and fo rm a puddle of water unde r the vehicle.
This is normal and does not mean there is a leak.
Pollut ant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the intervals specified in your Warranty
& Mainte­
nance booklet, so that the a ir condit ione r can
p roperly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air
pollution , the filter may need to be changed
mo re frequently than specified in your Aud i Wa r­
ranty
& Ma intenance booklet. If in doubt, ask
your author ized Audi Service Advisor for advice .
Key co ded setting s
The climate control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is i n use .
_&. WARNING
Reduced visib ility is dangerous and can ca use
accidents.
- For safe dr iv ing it is very impo rtant that all
windows be free of ice, snow and condens a­
tion .
Warm and c old
- Completely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating and
ventilation system and especially how to de­
fog and defrost the windows .
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer sys­
tem in freezing weather until you have
warmed the windshie ld first, using the heat ­
ing and vent ilation system . The washe r solu­
tion may freeze on the w indshield and re­
duce visibility.

- If you suspect that the air conditioner has bee n damaged, sw itch the system off to
avoid further damage and have it inspected
by a qualified dea lership.
- Repa irs to the Aud i a ir cond itioner requ ire
special techn ical know ledge and spec ial

assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reduc ing the amo unt of fuel you use, yo u
also reduce the amount of pollutants emitted
into the air.

- Keep the a ir intake slots (in fro nt of t he
w indshield) free from ice , snow and debr is
in orde r to maintain the proper function of
the climate control system .
- T he energy management system may switch
the seat heating* or rear window defroster
off temporarily . These systems are availab le
again as soon as the energy ba lance has
been restored .
- The a ir flowing out of the vents and
throughout the vehicle's ent ire inter ior is
discharged at the rear of the vehicle . Make
sure that the out let slots are not covered by
cloth ing , etc.

Storing the maximum spe ed
• Drive at the desired maximum speed.

Resetting the maximum speed
• Drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 3 mph
(5 km/h)
• Press the
~IS-E T~I button for more than 2 seconds .

!SE TI butto n to indicate
that the maxim um speed has been sto red suc­
cessfully.
The max imum speed remains stored until it is
changed by pressing the
I SETI button again brief­
ly or unt il it is deleted by a lengthy p ush on the

Speed warning 2: setting a speed limit
The MMI* or the radio control unit is used to set,
change or delete warning threshold 2 .

Introduction

The adaptive cruise control system assists the
driver by regulat ing vehicle speed and helping to
maintain a set distance to the vehicle ahead,
within the limits of the system.
If the system de ­
tects a moving vehicle up ahead, adaptive cruise
control can brake and then accelerate your veh i­
cle . This helps to make driving more comfortable
on long highway stretches .
The braking gua rd system can warn you about an
impend ing collision and initiat e braking maneu­
vers
¢ page 115.
Adaptive cruise control and braking guard have
technical lim itations that you must know, so
please read th is section carefully, understand
how the system works and use them properly at
all times.

The area that contains the radar sensor

he function of the adaptive cruise control sys ­
tem and braking guard is limited under some
condit ions:
- Ob jects can on ly be de tected when they are
within sensor range

-The sys tem has a limited ability to de tect ob­
jects that are a short distance ahead, off to the
side of your vehicle or moving into your lane .
- Some kinds of veh icles are hard to detect; for
examp le motorcycles, ve hicles w ith hig h
ground clearance or overhanging loads may be
detected when it is too late or they may not b e
detected at all.

-= -Always pay attention to t raffic when adaptive
cruise control is switched on and braking
g uard is active. As the driver, you are still re­
sponsible for starting and for maintain ing
speed and distance to other objects . Braking
g uard is used to ass ist you . The driver must
a lways take act ion to avoid a co llision . The
driver is always respons ible for braking at the
cor rect time.
- I mproper use of adaptive cruise control can
cause collisions, other accidents and ser ious
pe rsonal injury.
- Never let the comfort and conven ience that
adapt ive cr uise control and braking g uard
offe r distract you from the need to be a lert
to traffic cond itions and the need to remain
in full control of your vehicle at all times,
- Always remember that the adapt ive cruise
control and braking guard have limits -they
will not slow the vehicle down or maintain
the set distance when you dr ive towards an
obstacle or something on or near the road
that is not moving, such as vehicles stopped
in a traff ic jam, a stalled or disab led vehicle .
If reg istered by the radar sensor, vehicles or
obstacles that a re not mov ing can trigger a
coll is ion warning and if confi rmed by the
video camera, an acute co llision wa rning.

-For safety reasons, do not use adaptive
cruise control when driving on roads with
many curves, when the road surface is in
poor condition and/or in bad weather (such
as ice, fog, gravel, heavy ra in and hydroplan­
ing). Using the system under these condi·
tions could result in a collision.
- Switch adaptive cruise control off tempora­
rily when driving in turning lanes, on ex­
pressway exits or in construction zones. This
prevents the vehicle from accelerating to
the set speed when in these situations .
- The adaptive cruis e control system will not
brake by itself if you put your foot on the ac­
celerator pedal. Doing so can override the
speed and distance regu lation.
- When approaching stationary objects such
as stopped traffic, adaptive cruise control
will not respond and braking guard will have
limited function.
- The adaptive cruise control system and
braking guard do not react to people, ani­
mals, objects crossing the road or oncom ing
objects.
- The function of the radar sensor can be af­
fected by reflective objects such as guard
rails, the entrance to a tunnel, heavy rain or
ice.
- Never follow a vehicle so closely that you
cannot stop your vehicle safely. The adap·
t ive cruise control cannot slow or brake the
vehicle safely when you fo llow another veh i­
cle too closely. Always remember that the
automatic braking function cannot bring the
vehicle to a sudden or emergency stop un­
der these conditions .
- To prevent unintended operation, always
switch adaptive cruise control off when it is
not being used.
(D Note
The sensor can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. That could affect the adaptive
cruise control system and braking guard .
Have your authorized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Service Facility check their function.

When driving into a curve c:::> fig . 123 and out of a
curve, the adapt ive cruise control may react to a
vehicle in the next lane and apply the brakes . You
can override or prevent the braking by pressing
the accelerator pedal briefly.

The adaptive cruise control system only reacts to
objects that are moving or that the system has
already detected as moving . Fo r example, if ave­
hicle @, which has already been detected by the
adaptive cruise control, turns or changes lanes
and another stationary vehicle @ is located in
front of that vehicle, the system will not react to
the sta tionary veh icle.

Overriding cruise control
• To accelerate manua lly, press the accelerator
pedal. The message
ACC: override appears.
• To resume adaptive cruise control, remove your
foot from the gas pedal. The system returns again to the speed that was saved before .
• You can save a new speed at any time by press­

Canceling cruise control while driving
• Move the lever into position @. The message
ACC: Standby appears. Or
• press the brake pedal.

conditions.

The distance between the two veh icles will
change in the instrument cluster display.

the adaptive cruise control system brakes to
match that object's speed and then maintains

If the vehicle ahead acceler­
ates, adaptive cruise control will also accelerate
up to the stored speed .
