United Kingdom only: G
WARNING
When the double locks are activated, the
doors can no longer be opened from the
inside. People in the vehicle can no longer get out, e.g. in hazardous situations. There is a
risk of injury.
Therefore, do not leave any people unsuper-
vised in the vehicle, particularly children, eld-
erly people or people in need of special assis-
tance. Do not activate the double lock when
people are in the vehicle.
If the vehicle has been locked from the outside, the double lock function is activated as stand-
ard. It is then not possible to open the doors
from inside the vehicle. You can deactivate the
double lock function by deactivating the interior
motion sensor (Y page 76). The doors can then
be opened from the inside after the vehicle has
been locked from the outside. The anti-theft
alarm system is triggered if the door is opened
from the inside. Switch off the alarm
(Y page 74).
All countries: G
WARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle, they can:
R open doors and endanger other persons or
road users
R climb out and be injured by the traffic
R operate vehicle equipment and, for exam-
ple, trap themselves.
Children could also set the vehicle in motion, for example by:
R releasing the parking brake
R shifting the automatic transmission out of
park position P
R starting the engine.
There is a risk of an accident and injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the key
with you and lock the vehicle. Never leave children unattended in the vehicle. Always
keep the key out of reach of children.

WARNING
If you attach heavy or large objects to the key, the key could be unintentionally turned in the
ignition lock. This could cause the engine to
be switched off. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not attach any heavy or large objects to the
key. Remove any bulky keyrings before insert-
ing the key into the ignition lock.
! Keep the key away from strong magnetic
fields. Otherwise, the remote control function could be affected.
Strong magnetic fields can occur in the vicin-
ity of powerful electrical installations.
Do not keep the key: R with electronic devices, e.g. a mobile phone
or another key
R with metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal film
R inside metallic objects, e.g. a metal case
This can affect the key's functionality. Key functions
:
& Locks the vehicle
; F Opens/closes the boot lid
= % Unlocks the vehicle
X To unlock centrally: press the%button.
If you do not open the vehicle within approx-
imately 40 seconds of unlocking:
R the vehicle locks again
R protection against theft is reactivated

To start the vehicle without actively using the
key:
R the Start/Stop button must be inserted in the
ignition lock
R the key must be in the vehicle
R the vehicle must not be locked with the key or
KEYLESS-GO (Y page 78)
Do not keep the key:
R with electronic devices, e.g. a mobile phone
or another key
R with metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal film
R inside metallic objects, e.g. a metal case
This can affect the function of the key with KEY- LESS-GO.
If you lock the vehicle with the key's remote
control or with KEYLESS-GO, after a short time:
R you will not be able to switch on the ignition
with the Start/Stop button
R you will not be able to start the engine with the
Start/Stop button until the vehicle is
unlocked again
The engine can be switched off while the vehicle is in motion by pressing and holding the Start/
Stop button for three seconds. This function
operates independently of the ECO start/stop
automatic engine switch-off function.
Key positions with KEYLESS-GO :
Start/Stop button

When you switch on the ignition, all of the indi-
cator lamps in the instrument cluster light up.
Further information on situations where an indi-
cator lamp either fails to go out after starting the engine or lights up while driving (Y page 245).
If Start/Stop button :has not yet been
pressed, this corresponds to the key being
removed from the ignition. X
To switch on the power supply: press
Start/Stop button :once.
The power supply is switched on. You can now activate the windscreen wipers, for example.
The power supply is switched off again if:
R the driver's door is opened and
R you press Start/Stop button :twice when
in this position
X To switch on the ignition: press Start/Stop
button :twice.
The ignition is switched on.
If you press Start/Stop button :once when
in this position, the ignition is deactivated
again.
Removing the Start/Stop button
You can remove the Start/Stop button from the
ignition lock and start the vehicle as normal
using the key.
X Remove Start/Stop button :from ignition
lock ;.
You do not have to remove the Start/Stop but-
ton from the ignition lock when you leave the
vehicle. You should, however, always take the
key with you when leaving the vehicle. As long as
the key is in the vehicle:
R the vehicle can be started using the Start/
Stop button
R the electrically powered equipment can be

The outside temperature display is in the multi-
function display (Y page 201).
A change in the outside temperature is shown in
the multifunction display after a delay. Coolant temperature gauge

WARNING
If you open the bonnet while the engine is
overheating or while there is a fire in the
engine compartment, you could come into
contact with hot gases or other leaking ser-
vice products. There is a danger of injury.
Allow an overheating engine to cool down
before opening the bonnet. If there is a fire in the engine compartment, leave the bonnet
closed and notify the fire brigade.
The coolant temperature gauge is in the instru-
ment cluster on the right-hand side (Y page 32).
Under normal operating conditions and at the
correct coolant level, the coolant temperature
may rise to 120 †.
At high outside temperatures and when driving
uphill, the coolant temperature may rise to the

AMG vehicles.

DAB radio mode ( DigitalAudioBroadcasting) is
an optimised digital transmission standard
designed for the mobile reception of radio trans-
missions.
Audio player or audio media operation Audio files from various audio players or media
can be played, depending on the equipment fit- ted in the vehicle.
X Switch on the multimedia system and select
audio CD or MP3 mode (see the separate
operating instructions).
X Press the =or; button on the steering
wheel to select the Audio
Audio menu.
X To select the next/previous track: briefly
press the 9or: button.
X To select a track from the track list (rapid
scrolling): press and hold the 9or:
button until desired track :appears.
If you press and hold the 9or: button,
the rapid scrolling speed is increased. Not all audio players or media support this function. If track information is saved on the audio
player or media, the multifunction display will
show the number and title of the track.
Video DVD operation X
Switch on the multimedia system and select
video DVD (see the separate operating
instructions).

wheel to select the Audio Audiomenu.

channel :if this has been stored. You can save
channels in the multimedia system.

9 or: button.
X To select a channel from the channel list:

Depending on the digital TV broadcaster,
radio stations can also be received. The mul-
tifunction display shows TV (Radio)

Operating the integrated information systems and communications equipment in the vehicle
while driving will distract you from traffic con-
ditions. You could then lose control of the
vehicle. There is a risk of an accident.
Only operate these devices if road traffic con-
ditions permit. If you are unsure about the Menus and submenus

surrounding conditions, pull over to a safe
location and make entries only while the vehi- cle is stationary.
When telephoning, you must observe the legal
requirements for the country in which you are
currently driving.
X Switch on the mobile phone (see the manu-
facturer's operating instructions).

X Insert the mobile phone into the bracket

Accepting a call If someone calls you when you are in the
Tel Tel
menu, a display message appears in the multi-
function display.
You can accept a call at any time irrespective of
the selected menu.
X Press the 6button on the steering wheel
to accept an incoming call.
Rejecting or ending a call X
Press the ~button on the steering wheel
to reject or end an incoming call. Selecting an entry in the phone book X

wheel to select the Tel Telmenu.
