Even though you press the outside door
handle buttons, the doors will not lock
and the chime will sound for 3 seconds if
any of following occur:
The smart key is in the vehicle.
The ENGINE START/STOP button is in
the ACC or ON position.
Any door except the tailgate is open.Unlocking
Pressing the button of the front outside door handles with all doors (and tailgate)
closed and locked, unlocks all the doors
(and tailgate). The hazard warning lights
blink twice to indicate that all doors (and
tailgate) are unlocked.
The button will only operate when the
smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.)
from the outside door handle.
When the smart key is recognized in the area of 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.) from the front
outside door handle, other people canalso open the door without possession of
the smart key.
After pressing the button, the doors will
lock automatically unless you open any
door within 30 seconds.
Tailgate unlocking
If you are within 0.7 m ~ 1 m (28 ~ 40 in.)
from the outside tailgate handle, with
your smart key in possession, the tail-
gate will unlock and open when you
press the tailgate handle switch.
The hazard warning lights will blink twice
to indicate that the tailgate is unlocked.
Also, once the tailgate is opened and
then closed, the tailgate will lock auto-
matically. ❈ The word “HOLD” is written on the but-
ton to inform you that you must press
and hold the button for 1 second.
Start-up
You can start the engine without inserting
the key. For detailed information refer to
“Starting the engine with a smart key” insection 5.

Illumination (if equipped)
The brightness of the instrument panel
illumination is changed by rotating theillumination control knob when the igni-
tion switch or Engine Start/Stop button is
ON, or the tale lights are turned on. The brightness of the instrument panel
illumination is displayed (Type B Cluster).
If the brightness reaches to the maxi-
mum or minimum level, an alarm willsound (if equipped).
WARNING
Never adjust the instrument cluster
while driving. This could result in
loss of control and lead to an acci-
dent that may cause death, serious
injury, or property damage.

Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
(if equipped)
This gauge indicates the temperature of the engine coolant when the ignition
switch or Engine Start/Stop button is ON.
Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge indicates the approxi- mate amount of fuel remaining in the fueltank.
The fuel tank capacity is given in sec-
tion 8.The fuel gauge is supplemented by
a low fuel warning light, which will illumi-
nate when the fuel tank is nearly empty.

CAUTION
If the gauge pointer moves beyond
the normal range area toward the
“130 or H” position, it indicates over-heating that may damage the engine.
Do not continue driving with anoverheated engine. If your vehicle
overheats, refer to “If the Engine Overheats” in chapter 6.
WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap
when the engine is hot. The enginecoolant is under pressure and
could severely burn. Wait until the
engine is cool before adding
coolant to the reservoir.

Key not in vehicle
If the smart key is not in the vehicle and
if any door is opened or closed with the
engine start/stop button in the ACC, ON,
or START position, the warning illumi-
nates on the LCD display. Also, the chime
sounds for 5 seconds when the smart
key is not in the vehicle and the door isclosed.
Always have the smart key with you.
Key not detected
If the smart key is not in the vehicle or is
not detected and you press the engine
start/stop button, the warning illuminates
on the LCD display for 10 seconds. Also,
the immobilizer indicator blinks for 10
seconds.
Press START button with key
If you press the engine start/stop button
while the warning “Key not detected” illu-
minates the warning “Press START but-
ton with key” illuminates for 10 seconds
on the LCD display. Also, the immobilizer
indicator blinks for 10 seconds.

Low Key Battery
If the engine start/stop button changes to
the OFF position when the smart key in
the vehicle discharges, the warning illu-
minates on the LCD display for about 10
seconds. Also, the warning chime
sounds once.
Replace the battery with a new one.
Press brake pedal to start engine (for automatic transaxle)
If the engine start/stop button changes to
the ACC position twice by pressing the
button repeatedly without depressing the
brake pedal, the warning illuminates on
the LCD display for about 10 seconds to
indicate that you should depress the
brake pedal to start the engine.
Press clutch pedal to start engine (for manual transaxle)
If the engine start/stop button turns to the
ACC position twice by pressing the but-ton repeatedly without depressing the
clutch pedal, the warning illuminates on
the LCD display for about 10 seconds to
indicate that you should depress the
clutch pedal to start the engine.

Shift to P (for automatic transaxle)
If you try to turn off the engine without the
shift lever in the P (Park) position, the
engine start/stop button will turn to the
ACC position. If the button is pressed
once more it will turn to the ON position.
The warning illuminates on the LCD dis-
play for about 10 seconds to indicate that
you should press the engine start/stop
button with the shift lever in the P (Park)
position to turn off the engine.
Also, the warning chime sounds for about
10 seconds. (if equipped)
Press START button again
If you can not operate the engine
start/stop button when there is a problem
with the engine start/stop button system,
the warning illuminates for 10 seconds
and the chime sounds continuously to
indicate that you could start the engine
by pressing the engine start/stop button
once more. The chime will stop if the engine
start/stop button system works normally
or the theft alarm system is armed.
If the warning illuminates each time you
press the engine start/stop button, we
recommend that you have the vehicle
inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as
soon as possible.
Shift to P or N to start engine
(for automatic transaxle)
If you try to start the engine with the shift
lever not in the P(Park) or N(Neutral)
position, the warning illuminates for
about 10 seconds on the LCD display.
You can also start the engine with the
shift lever in the N(Neutral) position, but
for your safety start the engine with the
shift lever in the P(Park) position.

Press START button while turningwheel
If the steering wheel does not unlock nor-
mally when the engine start/stop button
is pressed, the warning illuminates for 10
seconds on the LCD display. Also, the
warning chime sounds once and the
engine start/stop button light blinks for 10
seconds.
When you are warned, press the engine
start/stop button while turning the steer-
ing wheel right and left.
Check Steering Wheel Lock System
If the steering wheel does not lock nor-
mally when the engine start/stop button
changes to the OFF position, the warning
illuminates for 10 seconds on the LCD
display. Also, the warning chime sounds
for 3 seconds and the engine start/stop
button light blinks for 10 seconds.
Steering wheel unlocked
If the steering wheel does not lock nor-
mally when the ENGINE START/STOP
button turns to the OFF position, the
warning illuminates for 10 minutes on the
LCD display.
