Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the
rearmost position.
To avoid contact with the a irbag while it is de­
p loying, do not sit any closer to the instrument
panel than necessary and a lways wear the three­
point safety belt provided adjusted correctly. We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat
in the following manner:
.,. Bring the backrest up to an (a lmost) upright
position .
Do not ride with the seat reclined.
.,. Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re­
straints: Adjust the head restra int so the upper
edge is as even as poss ible with the top of your
head. If that is not possible, try to adjust the
head restraint so that it is as close to th is posi­
tion as poss ible

safety belts are properly positioned on the body. T he more the backrest is reclined, the
greater the risk of pe rsonal inj ury from an
incor rec t seating posi tion and improperly
posi tioned safety belts.

er's seat while the vehicle is moving. If you
do this while the vehicle is moving, you will
be out of position. Always adjust the driver's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not mov ing.

ed with the ignition off or with the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattend­

The center armrest can be adjusted to several
levels .

nected to it operate on ly when the ignition is
switched on. Incorrect usage can lead to seri­
ous injuries or burns. For this reason, children
should never be left unattended in the veh icle

electrical current, such as a solar pane l or
battery charger, to the 12-volt socket. This

still plugged in and are on, the vehicle battery

Storing
General overview
A WARNING
-Always remove objects from the instrument
panel. Any items not pu t away cou ld slide
around inside the vehicle wh ile driving or
when accelera ting or when app ly ing the
bra kes or w hen driv ing around a corner.
- When you are dr iv ing make sure that a ny­
t hing yo u may have pla ced i n the cen ter con­
so le or other sto rage locations cannot fall
o ut into the footwells . In case of s udden
brak ing you would not be ab le to brake, de­
press the clutch or accelerate .
-Any pieces of clothing that yo u have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view .
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
weight cloth ing . Never hang any clothing
with hard , pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks . Dur ing sudden
brak ing or in an accident -especially if t he
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passengers inside the vehicle.

cups and g lasses can cause injury in an acci­
dent.
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray -risk of fire.

Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and can
be lo cked .

dent or sudden stop, always keep the glove
compartment closed wh ile driving.

There a re a variety of storage compartments and
fasteners in var ious places in the veh icle .

- On the back of the fron t seat . The compart-
ment can hold a maximum we ight of 1 kg .
- On the left and right of the luggage compart­
ment, beh ind the side trim .
- Garment hooks on the pillars in the rear of the
vehicle .

- When driving, do not leave any hard objects
on the rear window shelf o r allow your pet
to sit on the shelf . They co uld become a haz­
ard for vehicle occupants in the event of
sudden b raking or a crash .
- Always remove objects from the instr ument

Warm and cold
Warm and cold
Climate control system
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the veh icle inter ior. It
is the most effective when the windows and sun ­
roof are closed. If there is a build-up of heat in­
side the vehicle, ventilation can help to speed up
the cooling process.
I n all heating mode functions except
defrost, the
b lower only switches to a higher speed once the
engine coolant has reached a certain tempera­
ture .
Condensat ion from the cooling system can drip
and form a puddle of water under the veh icle.
This is normal and does not mean there is a leak.
P ollutant filt er
The pol lutant filte r removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the a ir.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the intervals specif ied in your Warranty
& Mainte­
nance booklet, so that the a ir cond it ione r can
properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air pollut ion, the filter may need to be changed
more frequently than specified i n your Aud i War­
ranty
& Maintenance booklet. If in doubt, ask
your author ized Audi Service Advisor for advice.
Ke y cod ed setting s
The climate control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use .
.8, WARNING
Reduced visib ility is dangerous and can ca use
accidents.
- For safe dr iv ing it is very impo rtan t that all
windows be free of ice, snow and condensa­
t ion .

- Complete ly familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating and
ventilation system and espec ially how to de­
fog and defrost the wi ndows .
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer sys­
tem in freezing weather until you have
warmed the windshield first, using the heat­ ing and vent ilation system. The washer solu­
tion may freeze on the windshield and re­
duce visibi lity.
(D Note
- If you suspect that the air conditioner has
been damaged, sw itch the system off to
avoid further damage and have it inspected
by a q ualified dealership.
- Repa irs to the Aud i air cond itioner requ ire
special techn ica l know ledge and spec ial
tools. Contact an a uthorized Audi dealer fo r
assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reduc ing the amo unt of fuel you use, you
also reduce the amount of pollutants emitted
into the a ir.
(D Tips
- Keep t he a ir intake slots (in front of the
windshield) free from ice, snow and debr is
in orde r to maintain the prope r funct ion of
the climate control system .
- The energy management sys tem may sw itch
the seat heating* o r rea r window defroster
off temporarily. These systems are available
again as soon as the energy balance has
been restored.
- Air escapes through vents under the rear
window. When placing items of clothing on
the luggage compartment cover, ensure
that the openings are not covered.

The clutch pedal must be depressed all the way
before you can start the engine .
The manual transmission in your Audi is equip­
ped with an
interlock-feature.
• Depress the clutch pedal a ll the way.
• Start the engine w it h the gearshift lever in Neu­
tral and the clutch pedal depressed.
(D Note
Always depress the clutc h pedal fu lly when
chang ing gears. Do not ho ld the vehicle on a
hill with the clutch pedal partially depressed.
This may cause premature clutch wear or
damage.

- Resting your hand o n the gearshift leve r

Introduction

The automatic transmission is controlled elec­
tronically. The transmission upshifts or down­
shifts automatically depend ing o n which drive
program is se lected .
When a
moderate driving style is used, the
transm ission selects the most economica l driv ing
mode . It will the n change up early and delay the
downshifts to give better fuel economy .
The transmission switches to a sporty mode after
a kick-down or when the driver uses a
sporty
dri ving style
characterized by quick accelerator
pedal movements, heavy acceleration, frequent
c hanges in speed and traveling at the maxim um
speed.
If desired, the driver can also select the gears
manually (tiptronic mode ) ¢ page 90.
Various automatic transmissions may be insta l­
l ed, depending on the model :
multitronic transmission
The mu ltitron ic t ransm iss ion is a continuously
variable transmission. Power is transferred using
a multidisk cl utch . In contrast to conventional
automat ic transmissions using shifting opera­
tions, the transmission ratio in the continuously
variable transmission is changed continuously.
This opt imizes the comfort leve l and conserves
fuel.
S tronic t ran smission
The S tronic is a d ua l-clutch transmission. Power
i s transferred using two clutches that work inde­
pendently from one another . They rep lace the
torque converter used in convent io nal automatic
transm issions and allow the vehicle to accelerate
withou t a noticeable inte rru pt io n in traction. ..,.

Automatic transmissio n
A WARNING
-Always adapt your driving to the traffic flow.
- Only use the Launch Control Program when road and traffic conditions allow it and oth­
er drivers will not be endangered or an­
noyed by your driving and the veh icle's ac­
celeration .
- Please note that the dr iving wheels can spin
and the vehicle can break away whe n sport
mode/offroad mode is switched on, espe­
ci al ly when the road is slippery.
- Once you have accelerated, you should
switch spo rt mode/off road mode off by
pre ssing the
l.$ OFFI b utton .
@ Tips
- The transmiss ion temperature may increase
s ignificantly after us ing the Launch Con trol
P rogram. If that happens, the p rogram may
not be available for a few minutes. It w ill be
available again after a cool-down period.
- When a ccele rating using the Lau nch Control
program, all veh icle parts are subject to
heavy loads . This can resul t in inc reased
wear .
Transmission malfunction
Applies to veh icles: w ith multitronic/5 tronic/tiptronic
rm Transmission: P ress brake pedal and select
gear again.
Press the brake pedal and se lect the des ired se ­
lector lever position again. You can then continue
driving .
rm Transmission overheating: Please drive con­
s e rv atively .
The transm ission tempe rature has increased s ig­
n ifican tly due to the spo rty d riv in g manne r. D rive
i n a less sporty ma nner until the temperature re­
turns to the normal range and the indica tor ligh t
switches of.
rm Transmi ssion malfunction: You can continue
driving
There is a system malfunct ion in the transm is­
sion . You may continue driving . D rive to your au-

soon to have the malfunction corrected.
rm Tran smission malfun ction: Limited driving
fun ctionality
There is a system malfunction in the transmis­
s io n. The transm ission is switc hing to eme rgency
mode. This mode only s hift s into ce rtain gears or
will no longer sh ift a t all. The eng ine may sta ll.
Drive to your authori zed A udi dealer or qualified
repair facility immediate ly to have the ma lfunc­
t ion co rrected .
rm ffl Transmi ssion malfunction: No rever se
You can continue driving
S tronic transm iss ion: The re is a sys tem ma lfunc­
tion in t he transm ission. The tr ansmission is
swi tching to emergency mode. This mode o nly
shi fts into certain gears or w ill no longer sh if t at
a ll. T he engine may stal l. You cannot engage the
reverse gear. Dr ive to your authorized Audi dea ler
or qualified repair facility immediately to have
the malfunct ion corrected.
DD Tran smission malfunction: Stop vehicle and
shift to pa rk.
