SYMBOLS
Some car components have coloured
labels whose symbols indicate
precautions to be observed when using
this component. Under the bonnet
there is also a label that summarises all
the symbols.
FIAT CODE SYSTEM
IN BRIEF
This is an electrical engine locking
system which increases protection
against an attempted theft of the. It is
automatically activated when the
ignition key is removed.
Each key contains an electronic
device which modulates the signal
emitted during ignition by an antenna
built into the ignition device. The
signal, which changes each time the
engine is started, is the “password”,
by means of which the control unit
recognises the key and enables
starting.
1)
Operation
Each time the vehicle is started turning
the ignition key toMAR-ON, the Fiat
CODE system control unit sends a
recognition code to the Powertrain
Control Module to deactivate the
immobiliser.
The acknowledgement code is sent
only if the Fiat CODE system control
unit has recognised the code
transmitted from the key.
Each time the ignition key is turned to
STOP, the Fiat CODE system
deactivates the functions of the
Powertrain Control Module.
Irregular operation
If, during starting, the code is not
correctly recognised, the symbol
comes on in the display.
In this case, turn the key toSTOPand
then back toMAR-ON; if the lock
continues, try with the other keys
provided with the vehicle. Contact an
Abarth Dealership if you still cannot
start the engine.
IMPORTANT Each key has its own
code which must be stored by the
system's control unit. Contact an
Abarth Dealership to have new keys (up
to 8) stored with a code.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR CAR
DIRECTION INDICATORS
Bring the stalk to the (stable) position:
❒up (position 1) fig. 28: activates
the right direction indicator;
❒down (position 2): activates the left
direction indicator.
Warning light
orwill blink on the
instrument panel. The direction
indicators switch off automatically when
the steering wheel is straightened.
"Lane Change" function
If you wish to signal a lane change,
place the left stalk in the unstable
position for less than half a second.
The direction indicator on the selected
side flashes three times and then
switches off automatically."FOLLOW ME HOME"
DEVICE
This allows the space in front of the car
to be lit for a set time.
Activation:with the ignition key on
STOP or removed, pull the stalk
towards the steering wheel within 2
minutes from turning the engine off.
At each single movement of the stalk,
the lights will remain on for an extra
30 seconds up to a maximum of 210
seconds: then the lights are switched
off automatically.
Each time the stalk is operated, the
warning light on the instrument
panel turns on and the display shows
how long the function remains active.
The warning light switches on when the
stalk is pulled for the first time and
stays lit until the function switches off
automatically. Each time the stalk is
activated it increases the time that the
lights remain on.
Deactivation:keep the stalk pulled
towards the steering wheel for more
than two seconds.
WARNING
12) The daytime running lights are
an alternative to the dipped
headlights for driving in countries
where it is compulsory to have
lights on during the day; where it
is not compulsory, the use of
daytime running lights is
permitted.
13) Daytime running lights cannot
replace dipped headlights when
driving at night or through
tunnels. The use of daytime
running lights is governed by the
highway code of the country in
which you are driving. Comply
with legal requirements.

HEADLIGHTS
LIGHT BEAM ALIGNMENT
The correct alignment of the headlights
is important for the comfort and safety
of not only the driver but all other road
users. This is also covered by a specific
rule of the highway code.
The headlights must be correctly aimed
to guarantee the best visibility
conditions for all drivers while travelling
with headlights on.
Contact an Abarth Dealership to have
them properly adjusted.
Check light beam alignment every time
the load or its distribution changes.
IMPORTANT When the gas discharge
(Xenon) headlights (for versions/
markets, where provided) are switched
on, normally parabolas and light beam
move vertically for about 2 seconds
until headlight alignment has stabilised.HEADLIGHT ALIGNMENT
CORRECTOR
This device works with the ignition key
in the MAR-ON position and the dipped
headlights on.
Headlight alignment
adjustment
When the car is loaded, it slopes
backwards. This means the light beam
rises.
In this case, restore the correct
alignment by operating buttons+and–
fig. 59.The adjustment positions are shown on
the display.
Position 0 - one or two people in the
front seats.
Position1-4passengers.
Position2-4passengers + load in the
luggage compartment.
Position 3 - driver + maximum
permitted load stowed in the luggage
compartment.
IMPORTANT Gas discharge headlights
(Xenon headlights) are automatically
adjusted. Headlight alignment
adjustment is electronic and therefore
cannot be manually adjusted using
the+and–buttons.
FOG LIGHTS ALIGNMENT
(for versions/markets, where provided)
Contact an Abarth Dealership to have
the fog lights properly adjusted.

Lighting (Car interior
lighting adjustment)
On some versions, the instrument panel
is provided with a light sensor capable
of detecting environmental light
conditions and adjusting the brightness
of the panel accordingly.
The brightness of the instrument panel
may therefore change while travelling
following an event causing a switch
from "day" to "night" conditions (or vice
versa) in the passenger compartment
(e.g. in a tunnel, on avenues in
shadows, under flyovers, etc.). The
lighting can be adjusted in night mode
only with dipped headlights on. If the
headlights are not on, it can be
adjusted in day mode. This function is available, with the
dipped headlights on and in night-time
conditions, to adjust the brightness
of the instrument panel, control
buttons, radio and automatic climate
control displays.
On some versions, during the daytime
and with dipped headlights on, the
instrument panel, control buttons, radio
and automatic climate control displays
are set to maximum brightness.
To adjust the brightness, proceed as

Warning lights on
displayWhat it means What to do
flashing red or
constantly yellow (for
versions/markets,
where provided)ENGINE OIL DETERIORATED
The symbol lights up and a specific message is shown on the display.
The symbol may flash in the following ways, depending on the versions:
- for 1 minute every two hours;
- for 3 minute cycles with the warning light off for intervals of 5 seconds
until oil is changed.
After the first indication, each time the engine is started the symbol will
continue to flash as described above until the oil is changed. In addition
to the symbol, the display will show a dedicated message. If the symbol
flashes, this does not mean that there is a fault, but simply informs that it
is now necessary to change the oil as a result of regular use of the car. If
the oil is not changed, when a second degradation threshold is reached,
the warning light
also switches on in the instrument panel and the
engine operation is limited to 3000 rpm. If the oil is still not changed,
when a third deterioration threshold is reached, the engine is limited to
1500 rpm to avoid damage. Engine oil deterioration is accelerated by:
- mainly town use of the car which makes the DPF regeneration process
more frequent;
- use of the vehicle for short drives, in which the engine does not have
time to reach its regular operating temperature;
- repeated interruptions of the regeneration process, signalled by the DPF
warning light switching on.Contact an Abarth
Dealership as soon as
possible.64)
14)
93
WARNING
64) If the warning light switches on, deteriorated engine oil must be changed as soon as possible, and never more than
500 km from the first time that the warning light switches on. Failure to observe the above indications may result in
severe damage to the engine and invalidate the warranty. The activation of this warning light is not related to the
amount of oil in the engine. Therefore, never top up with oil when the warning light starts flashing.
IMPORTANT
13) If thesymbol switches on when driving, stop the engine immediately and contact an Abarth Dealership.
14) To avoid damaging the engine it is advisable to change the engine oil when the
symbol flashes. In this case,
contact an Abarth Dealership.

KNOWING THE INSTRUMENT PANEL
USING THE
GEARBOX
To engage the gears, press the clutch
pedal fully and put the gear lever into
the required position (the diagram
for gear engagement is shown on the
knob) fig. 95.
100)
21)
To engage reverse R from neutral,
move the lever to the right and then
backwards.
To assist the transmission of torque, a
limit on the engine revs when setting off
at 2,700 rpm can be noticed. When
the clutch pedal is released and the
vehicle is being driven, the engine revs
restriction is disabled.IMPORTANT Reverse can only be
engaged when the car is completely
stationary. With the engine running, wait
for at least 2 seconds with the clutch
pedal fully pressed before engaging
reverse to prevent damage to the gears
and grating.
IMPORTANT The clutch pedal should
be used only for gear changes. Do
not drive with your foot resting on the
clutch pedal, however lightly. For
versions/markets where provided, the
electronic clutch control could cut
in, interpreting the incorrect driving style
as a fault.
WARNING
100) Depress the clutch pedal fully
to change gear correctly.
Therefore, the floor area
underneath the pedal unit must
not be obstructed in any way.
Ensure that the floor mat is
always laid flat and does not
interfere with use of the pedals.
IMPORTANT
21) Do not drive with your hand
resting on the gear lever as the
force exerted, even if slight, could
lead over time to premature wear
of the internal gearbox
components.
