compartment. Ifyou must drivewith
the liftgate open, follow these
precautions:
1. Open allthe windows.
2. Set the
air recirculation tooff
and thefancontrol tohigh to circulate
theair.
. Ifelectrical wiringorother cable
connections mustpasstoatrailer
through theseal onthe liftgate or
the body, follow themanufacturer's
recommendation toprevent carbon
monoxide entryintothevehicle.
. Ifaspecial body,camper orother
equipment isadded forrecreational
or other usage, followthemanufac-
turer's recommendation toprevent
carbon monoxide entryintothe
vehicle. (Somerecreational vehicle
appliances suchasstoves, refrig-

terrain. Properly secureallcargo

passengers.
. To avoid raising thecenter ofgravity
excessively, donot exceed therated
capacity ofthe roof rack (ifso
equipped) andevenly distribute the
load. Secure heavyloadsinthe
cargo areaasfar forward andas
low aspossible. Donot equip the
vehicle withtires larger thanspeci-
fied inthis manual. Thiscould cause your
vehicle toroll over.
. Do not grip theinside orspokes of
the steering wheelwhendriving off-
road. Thesteering wheelcould
move suddenly andinjure your
hands. Instead drivewithyour fin-
gers andthumbs onthe outside of
the rim.
. Before operating thevehicle, ensure
that thedriver andallpassengers
have theirseatbelts fastened.
. Always drivewiththefloor mats in
place asthe floor maybecame hot.
. Lower yourspeed whenencounter-
ing strong crosswinds. Withahigher
center ofgravity, yourNISSAN is
more affected bystrong sidewinds.
Slower speeds ensurebettervehicle
control.
. Do not drive beyond theperfor-
mance capability ofthe tires, even
with AWD engaged.
. For AWD equipped vehicles,donot
attempt toraise twowheels offthe
ground andshift thetransmission to
any drive orreverse position with
the engine running. Doingsomay
result indrivetrain damageorun- expected
vehiclemovement which
could result inserious vehicleda-
mage orpersonal injury.
. Do not attempt totest anAWD
equipped vehicleona2-wheel dy-
namometer (suchasthe dynam-
ometers usedbysome states for
emissions testing),or similar equip-
ment evenifthe other twowheels
are raised offthe ground. Makesure
you inform testfacility personnel
that your vehicle isequipped with
AWD before itis placed ona
dynamometer. Usingthewrong test
equipment mayresult indrivetrain
damage orunexpected vehicle
movement whichcouldresult in
serious vehicledamage orpersonal
injury.
. When awheel isoff the ground due
to an unlevel surface, donot spin
the wheel excessively (AWDmodel) .
. Accelerating quickly,sharpsteering
maneuvers orsudden braking may
