There arethree basic types ofchild restraint systems:
. Rear-facing childrestraint

The proper restraint depends onthe child's size.
Generally ,infants uptoabout 1year andless
than 20lbs (9kg) should beplaced inrear-
facing childrestraints. Forward-facing child
restraints areavailable forchildren whooutgrow
rear-facing childrestraints andareatleast 1
year old.Booster seatsareused tohelp position
a vehicle lap/shoulder beltonachild whocanno
longer useaforward-facing childrestraint.
WARNING
Infants andchildren needspecial pro-
tection. Thevehicle's seatbelts maynot
fit them properly. Theshoulder beltmay
come tooclose tothe face orneck. The
lap belt may notfitover their small hip
bones. Inan accident, animproperly
fitting seatbeltcould cause serious or
fatal injury. Always useappropriate
child restraints.

wheel isreplaced, theTPMS willnot

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYS-
TEM (TPMS)

Each tire,including thespare (ifprovided) ,
should bechecked monthlywhencoldand
inflated tothe inflation pressure recommended
by the vehicle manufacturer onthe vehicle
placard ortire inflation pressure label.(Ifyour vehicle
hastires ofadifferent sizethan thesize
indicated onthe vehicle placard ortire inflation
pressure label,youshould determine theproper
tire inflation pressure forthose tires.)
As anadded safetyfeature, yourvehicle has
been equipped withaTire Pressure Monitoring
System (TPMS) thatilluminates alow tire
pressure telltalewhenoneormore ofyour tires
is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly,when
the low tirepressure telltaleilluminates, you
should stopandcheck yourtiresassoon as
possible, andinflate themtothe proper pres-
sure. Driving onasignificantly under-inflated tire
causes thetiretooverheat andcanlead totire
failure. Under-inflation alsoreduces fueleffi-
ciency andtiretread life,and may affect the
vehicle's handlingandstopping ability.
Please notethattheTPMS isnot asubstitute for
proper tiremaintenance, anditis the driver's
responsibility tomaintain correcttirepressure,
even ifunder-inflation hasnotreached thelevel
to trigger illumination ofthe TPMS lowtire
pressure telltale.
Y our vehicle hasalso been equipped witha
TPMS malfunction indicatortoindicate whenthe
system isnot operating properly.The TPMS
malfunction indicatoriscombined withthelow
tire pressure telltale.Whenthesystem detects a

Change theAWD mode switch tothe 2WD
mode anddonot drive fast.

The Anti-lock BrakingSystem(ABS)controls
the brakes sothe wheels donot lock during hard
braking orwhen braking onslippery surfaces.
The system detects therotation speedateach wheel
andvaries thebrake fluidpressure to
prevent eachwheel fromlocking andsliding. By
preventing eachwheel fromlocking, thesystem
helps thedriver maintain steeringcontroland
helps tominimize swerving andspinning on
slippery surfaces.
Using thesystem

Depress thebrake pedalandhold itdown.
Depress thebrake pedalwithfirmsteady
pressure, butdonot pump thebrakes. The
ABS willoperate toprevent thewheels from

Self-test feature
