Lights and Vi sion
Travel mode (Canada mod els )*
The headlig ht beam is asymme trical. T his pro­
vides stronger illum inat ion on the s ide of the
road on which you are drivi ng. If yo u are driving
in a country that drives on the opposite side of
the road from your own country, this will cause
glare for oncoming drivers. To prevent glare:
- Trave l mode must be se lected in vehicles with
Xenon headlights* .
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, ce rtain
areas of the headlight lenses must be covered
with waterproof adhesive covers that prevent
li ght from pass ing t hrough. For more informa­
tion, please see your authorized Audi dea le r or
autho rized repair facility .
(!) Tips
When travel mode* is activated, a disp lay in
the dr iver information system indicates this
each t ime yo u switch the ignition on .
Adaptive light
Applies to vehicles: w ith adaptive lig ht
When driving around bends, the relevant area of
the road is better illuminated.

The adaptive light system is a com bi nation of the
dynamic and the static corneri ng lights. With the
lig hts switched on, the dynami c cornering light
a dapts to driving on cu rves . Thi s is dependen t
upon the vehicle speed and stee ring ang le . This
p rovides better lig hti ng throug h the c urve . The

system ope rates in a speed range from approxi­
mately 6 mph (10 km/h) to 68 mp h (1 10 km/h) .
The stat ic cornering ligh t switc hes on a t spee ds
of up to ap proximately 25 mp h (4 0 km/h) whe n a
ce rtain steering wheel angle is reached o r when a
turn signal is activated. T he a rea to the side of
the ve hicle is illuminated better when turning.
Emergency flashers
The emergency flashers makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle ore in an emer­
gency situation.

Turn signal and high beam lever
The lever on the le~ side of the steering column
is used to operate the turn signals and the high
beam as well as the headlight flasher.

The turn s ignal and high beam lever has the fol·
lowing functions:

• Lift the lever up all the way o fig. 50 (D to use
the right turn s ignals, or push the lever down
all the way @to use the left turn signals .

• Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of
resistance to use the turn signals for as long as
you need them, for example when changing
lanes.
• Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of
resistance and then release it right away to
make the turn signals blink
three times. You
can use this feature for example when changing
lanes on highways.
High beam gD
• Push the lever forward @ to switch on the high
beam.
• Pull the lever back towards you to switch off
the high beam.
Headlight flasher ~D
• Pull the lever toward the steering wheel@ to
use the head light flasher .

Seats and storage
General information
Why is your seat adjustment so important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can only
provide maximum protection if the front seats are correctly adjusted .
There are various ways of adjusting the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the driver and the front passenger . Adjust
your seat properly so that:
- you can easily and quickly reach all the switches
and controls in the instrument panel
- your body is properly supported thus reducing
physical stress and fatigue
- the safety belts and a irbag system can offer
maximum protection
¢ page 152.
In the following sections, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust your seats.
There are special regulations and instructions for installing a child safety seat on the front pas­
senger's seat . Always follow the information re­
garding child safety provided in¢
page 172,
Child safety.
A WARNING
Incorrect seating position of the dr iver and all
other passengers can result in serious person­
al injury.
- Always keep your feet on the floor when the
vehicle is in motion - never put your feet on
top of the instrument panel, out of the win­
dow or on top of the seat cushion. This ap­
plies especially to the passengers. If your
seating pos it ion is inco rrect, you increase
the risk of injury in the case of sudden brak­
ing or an accident. If the airbag inflates and
the seating position is incorrect, this could
result in personal injury or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and front
passenger to keep a distance of at least
10 inches (25 cm) between themse lves and
the steering wheel and/or instrument panel. If you're sitting any closer than th is, the a ir ­
bag system cannot protect you properly. In
S eat s and stor age
addit ion, the front seats and head restraints
must be adjusted to your body height so
that they can give you maximum protection.
- Always try to keep as much distance as pos­
sible between yourself and the steer ing
wheel or instrument panel.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front passeng­ er's seat while the veh icle is moving. Your
seat may move unexpectedly, causing sud­
den loss of vehicle control and personal in­
jury . If you adjust your seat while the vehicle
is moving, you a re out of position .
Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving.
We recommend that you adjust the dr iver's seat
in the following manner:
.,. Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so that
you can eas ily push the pedals to the floor
while keeping your knees slightly bent¢

.,. Adjust the seatback so that when you sit with
your back against the seatback , you can still
grasp the top of the steering wheel.
.,. Ad just the head rest ra int so the upper edge is
as even as possib le with the top o f your head.

that is not possible, try to adj ust the head re­
straint so that it is as close to this position as possible ¢
page 67.
A WARNING
-~
Never place any objects in the dr iver 's foot-
well . An object could get into the pedal area
and inte rfe re with pedal funct ion . In case of
sudden braking or an acc ident, you would not
be ab le to brake or accelerate.
Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the
rearmost position .
To avoid contact with the a irbag while it is de­
ploy ing, do not sit any closer to the instrument

Warm and cold
[i] Adjusting seat heating*
Pressing the but ton switches the seat heating on
at the highest setting (level 3). The LEDs indicate
the temperat ure leve l. To red uce the tempera­
ture, press the button again. To switch the seat heating off, press the button repeatedly until the
LED turns off.
After
10 minutes, the seat heating automatica lly
switches from leve l
3 to leve l 2.
lil Adjusting seat ventilation*
Press ing the button switches the seat ventilation
on at the highest setting ( leve l
3). The LEDs ind i­
cate the venti lation level. To reduce the venti la ­
tion level, press the button aga in. To switch the
seat ventilation off, press the button repeatedly
until the L ED turns off.
l(;I> FRONT I S w itch the d efroster on/off
The windshield and s ide windows are defrosted
or cleared of condensation as quickly as possible.
The maximum amo unt of air flows mainly from
the vents below the windshield. Recirculation
mode switches off. The temperature should be
set to 72 °F (22 °C) or higher. The temperature is
cont ro lled automatically .
The
IAUTOI button switches the defroster off.
I Qiil REAR I Switching rear window heater on /
o ff
The rear window heater only operates when the
engine is running. It switches off automatically
after a few m inutes, depending on the outs ide
temperature .
To prevent the rear window heater from switch ­
ing off automatically, press and hold the
!lliD REARI
button for more than 2 seconds. This rema ins
stored unt il the ignition is switched off.
Air vent s
You can open and close the center and rea r air
vents using the thumbwheels. The levers adjust
the direction of the airflow from the vents .
You can adjust the air temperatu re in the rear by
turning the thumbwheel toward the red side to

make it wa rmer or towa rd the blue side to make
it coo ler .
A WARNING
- Do not use the recircu lation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog up
since no fresh air can enter the vehicle. If
the windows fog up, press the air rec ircula ­
tion button again immed iately to sw itch off
the air recircu lation function or se lect de­
frost.
- Individuals w ith reduced sensitivity to pain
or temperatu re could develop burns when
using the seat heating* function . T o reduce
the r isk of in ju ry, these indiv iduals should
no t use seat hea ting.

To avoid damage to the heat ing e lements* in
the seats, do not kneel on the sea ts or place
h eavy loads on a sma ll are a of the seat .

When switched on, automat ic recirculation con­
trols the recirculation mode automatically . If the

Synchronization
When synchronization is switched on, the same
settings are applied to both the driver and front passenger, except for the seat heating/ventila­
t ion* . Synchron izat ion switches off when you ad­
just the settings on the front passenge r's side.
You can also switch synchronization on by press -

Manually adjustable steering wheel
The height and reach of the steering wheel can
be adjusted .

There must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) be­ tween your chest and the cente r of the steering
wheel.
If you cannot sit mo re than 10 i nch es (25
cm) from the steering wheel, see if adaptive
equipment is available to help you reach the ped­
als and increase the distance from the steering
wheel.

A WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment
and improper seating position can cause seri­
ous pe rsonal injury .
- Adjust the steering wheel column on ly when
the vehicle is not moving to prevent loss of
vehicle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is a minimum of 10 inches (25
cm) between your chest and the steering
wheel

maintain this minimum distance, the airbag
system cannot p rotect you properly.
- If physical limitations prevent you from sit­
ting 10 inches (25 cm) or more from the
steer ing whee l, check with your authorized
Audi dea ler to see if adaptive equipment is
availab le.
- If the steer ing whee l is aligned with your
face, the supplementa l driver 's airbag can­
not prov ide as much p rotection in a n acci­
dent. Always make su re that the steering
wheel is alig ned with your chest.
- Always hold the steer ing wheel w ith your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to reduce the ris k of persona l injury if
the dr iver's air bag dep loys.
- Never hold the stee ring wheel at the 12
o'cloc k position o r with your hands inside
the steering wheel rim or on t he steering
wheel hub . Holding the steeri ng whee l the
wrong way can cause serious injuries to the
hands, arms and head if the driver's airbag
deploys.
Ignition lock
Starting engine with the key
The ignition is switched on and the engine start ­
ed with the ignition key.

- When starting on inclines, the sta rting assist
prevents the vehicle from unintentionally roll­
i ng back . T he braking force of the parking brake
is not released unt il sufficient driving force has
been built up at the wheels.
Em ergency brake function
An emergency bra ke ensures that the vehicle can
be slowed down even if the normal brakes fa il
c::> page 91, Emergency broking .
A WARNING
-
If a drive range is engaged with the vehicle
stationary and the engine running, you must
in no instance accelerate careless ly. Otherwise
t he vehicle will start to move immed iate ly -
r isk of an accident.

- When the ve hicle is par ked, the parking
b rake goes t hro ugh a se lf-test cycle a t regu­
lar in tervals . Any associa ted noises are no r­
mal.
Parking
~ Press the brake peda l to stop the vehicle.
~ Pu ll the switch c::> page 89 , fig . 103 to set the
parking brake.
~ Move the selecto r lever to P .
~ Turn the eng ine off c::> ,&. .
~ When on incl ines or declines, turn the steer ing
whee l so that the vehicle w ill roll into the curb
if it beg ins to move.
A WARNING
- W hen you leave your veh icle -even if only
br ie fly -always remove the igni tion key. This
applies part icu larly when children remain in

the vehicle. Ot herwise the ch ild ren could
start the engine, release the parking b rake
or operate electrical equ ipment (e.g . power
w indows) . There is the risk of an accident.
- W hen the veh icle is locked, no one -part icu­
larly not chi ldren shou ld remain in the ve hi­
cle. Locked doors make it more d ifficult for
emerge ncy wor kers to get into the ve hicle -
putting lives at risk .
Starting from rest
The starting assist function ensures that the
parking broke is released automatically upon
starting.
Stopping and applying parking brake
~ Pull the sw itch to app ly the parking brake.
Starting and automatically releasing the
parking brake
~ When you sta rt to drive as us ual, the parking
brake is automatically released and yo ur vehicle
beg ins to move.
When stopping at a traffic signa l or stopping in
c ity t raffic on vehicles with an a utomat ic trans­
mission, the parking brake ca n be applied. The
vehicle does not have to be he ld with the foot­
brake . The park ing brake e liminates the tendency
to c reep with a d rive ra nge engaged . As soon as
you d rive off as usua l, the par king b rake is re­
l eased a utomat ic all y and the vehi cle starts to
move .
Starting on slopes
When sta rting on inclines, the starting assist pre ­
vents the vehicle from unintentionally ro lling
ba ck. The braking for ce of t he parking b ra ke is
not released until sufficient dr iv ing force has
been built up a t the wheels.
