Determining correct load
limit
Use the example below to calcu
late the total weight of the pas
sengers and luggage or other
things that you plan to transport
so that you can ma ke sure that
your vehicle will not be overload ed .
Steps for Determining Correct
Load Limit
1 . Locate the statement "THE
COMBINED WEIGHT OF OCCU PANTS AND CARGO SHOULD
NEVER EXCEED XXX KG OR XXX
LBS"on your vehi cle's pla card
(tire inflation pressure label)
¢ page 245 , fig. 206.
2 . Determine the combined
weight of the driver and pas
sengers that will be riding in
your vehicle.
3 . Subtract the combined weight
of the driver and passengers
from
"XXX " kilograms or "XXX"
pound s shown on the sticker
¢ page 245 , fig. 206 .
4. The resulting figure equals the
available amount of cargo and luggage load capacity. For ex
ample, if the
" XXX" amount
equals 1400 lbs. and there will
Wheels
be five 1 SO lb s. passenger s in
your vehicle, the amount of available cargo and luggage load capa city is 650 lb s.
(1400-750 (5 X 150) = 650
lb s.)
5. Determine the combined
weight of luggage and cargo
being loaded on the vehicle .
That weight may not safely e x
c eed the available cargo and
luggage load capa city cal culat
ed in Step 4 .
6. If your vehicle will be towing a trailer, load from your trailer
will be transferred to your vehi
cle. Con sult thi s manual to d e
termine how this redu ce s the
available cargo and luggage load capacity of your vehicle .
.,.Check the tire sidewall
(¢ page 235 , fig. 204) to deter
mine the designated load rating
for a specific tire.
Wheel bolts and rims

CJ) Note
Special care is required if you are repairing the
tire on a steep incline.
@ Tips
- Do not operate the compressor for more
than 12 minutes continuously, otherwise it
can overheat . Once the compressor has
cooled, you can continue to use it.
- If sealant has spi lled out, let it dry and then
you can remove it by peeling it away like a
foil.
- Remember to obtain a new bottle of sea lant
from yo ur authorized Aud i dea ler after re
pairing a tire. After this, the functionality of
the tire repa ir set is restored.
- Obey all laws.
Replacing wheels
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your own
and your passenger's safety when changing a
wheel.
.. After you experience a tire fa ilure, pull the car
well away from moving traffic and try to reach
l eve l ground before you stop¢_& .
.. All passengers sho uld
le ave t he car and move
to a safe location (for instance, behind the
guardrail)¢ _&.
.. Engage the
parking br ake to prevent your vehi
cle from rolling unintentionally¢_& .
.. Move
select or lever to pos itio n P ¢ &_ .
.. If you are tow ing a trailer: unhitch the trailer
from your vehicle .
.. Block the diagonally opposite wheel with the
folding chocks or other objects.
.. Take the
jack * and the in flat abl e s par e tir e*
out of the luggage compartment¢ page 255.
A WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured while
changing a wheel if you do not follow these
safety precautions:
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance
off the road. Turn off the engine, t urn the
260
emergency flashers on and use other warn
ing dev ices to alert other motor ists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic.
- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly slipping off the jack*,
always fully set the parking brake and block
the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel be
ing changed with the folding chocks or oth
er objects. When one front wheel is lifted
off the ground, placing the Automatic Tra ns
m iss ion in P (Pa rk) w ill
not prevent the veh i
cle from moving.
- Before you change a whee l, be sure the
ground is level and firm.
If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack *.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack*
and the replaced tire in the luggage com
pa rtment

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence
described below step-by-step and in exactly that
order .
1. Remove the d eco rativ e wheel cover*. For

Operating your vehicle
outside the U.S.A. or
Canada
Government regulations in the United States and
Canada require that automobiles meet specific
emission regulations and safety standards.
Therefore, vehicles built for the U.S.A. and Cana
da differ from vehicles sold in other countries.
If you plan to take your vehicle outside the conti
nental limits of the United States or Canada,
there is the possibility that:
- unleaded fuels for vehicles with catalytic con
verter may not be available;
- fuel may have a considerably lower octane rat
ing . Improper fuel may cause engine damage;
- serv ice may be inadequate due to lack of proper
serv ice faci lities , tools or testing equipment;
- replacement parts may not be readily available .
- Nav igat ion systems for vehicles built for the
U.S.A. and Canada will not necessar ily work in
Europe , and may not work in other countries
outside of North America.

Maintenance
General
Your vehicle has been designed to help keep
maintenance requirements to a minimum. How
ever, a certain amount of regular maintenance is
still necessary to assure your vehicle's safety,
economy and reliability. For detailed vehicle
maintenance consult your Warranty & Mainte
nance booklet .
Under difficult operating conditions, for exam
ple at extremely low outside temperatures, in
very dusty regions, when towing a trailer very fre
quently, etc., some serv ice work should be per
formed between the intervals specified. This ap
plies particularly to:
- oil changes, and
- cleaning or replacing the air filter .
(® For the sake of the environment
By regularly maintaining your vehicle, you
help make sure that emission standards are
maintained, thus min imizing adverse effects
on the environment.
Important considerations for you and your
vehicle
