Fog lights
The s ide marker lights or Low beams must be
switched on. When the fog lights are swi tched
on, the g re e n check light at the edge of the
sw itch comes on.
If automat ic driving light control AUTO is activat­
ed, the low beams are switched on whe n the fog
lights a re turned on .
Rear fog light s
Low beams or side marker lights with fog lights
must be turned on.

low check light at the edge of the s witch comes

- Worn or dirty windshie ld wiper blades result
in streaking . This can affect the rain sensor
function . Check your windshield wiper
blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles of the windshield
washer system are heated at low tempera­
tures when the ignit ion is on.
- When stopp ing temporarily, e.g. at a traffic
light, the set speed of the windshield wipers
i s automatically reduced by one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshield wiper blades when they be­
g in to leave streaks. Use a soft cloth and glass
cleane r to clean the windshield wiper blades .
Front wiper

arms are fo lded away from the windshield.
The windshield w ipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage

not use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or
other solvents on or near the wiper blades .

or other components, do not attempt to move the wipers by hand.
@ Tips
- Commercial hot waxes applied by automatic
car washes affect the how easily the glass
surface can be cleaned .
- You can also use the service position, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover.

Depend ing on the outside temperature, the mir ­
ror surfaces are heated until the ignition is
switched off -even if the knob is no longer in po­

You are we ll-advised to fold the exterior mirrors
in when maneuvering in tight spaces or when
leaving the car parked close to other vehicles.
Memory for exterior mirrors*
On vehicles with memory for the driver's seat,
the current setting for the exterior mirrors is au­
tomatically sto red a long with the seat pos ition
Q page 64.
Tilt function for the passenger's mirror*
When the reverse gear is engaged, the mirror
surface tilts downward slightly if the setting is
for the passenger's mirror (knob in position ®
Q fig. 60). This allows you to see the curb during

Warm and cold
Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
The climate control system warms, cools and
adds humidity to the air in the vehicle interior. It
is the most effective when the windows and pan­
oramic sliding sunroof* are closed . If there is a
build-up of heat inside the vehicle, ventilation
can help to speed up the cooling proc ess.
In all heating mode functions except
defrost, the
blower only switches to a higher speed once the
engine coolant has reached a certain tempera­
ture.
Condensation from the cooling system can drip
and form a puddle of water under the vehicle.
This is normal and does not mean there is a leak.
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filter removes pollutants such as
dust and pollen from the air.
The air pollutants filter must be changed at the
intervals specified in your Warranty & Mainte­
nance booklet, so that the air conditioner can
properly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with high air pollution , the filter may need to be changed
more frequently than specified in your Audi War­
ranty
& Maintenance booklet. If in doubt, ask
your authorized Audi Service Advisor for advice.
Key coded settings
The climate control settings are automatically
stored and assigned to the remote control key
that is in use .
.8, WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can cause
accidents.
- For safe driving it is very important that all
windows be free of ice, snow and condensa­
tion.

- Completely familiarize yourself with the
proper use and function of the heating and
ventilation system and especially how to de­
fog and defrost the windows .
- Never use the windshield wiper/washer sys­
tem in freezing weather until you have
warmed the windshield first, using the heat­
ing and ventilation system . The washer solu­
tion may freeze on the windshield and re­
duce visibility .
(D Note
-If you suspect that the air conditioner has
been damaged, switch the system off to
avoid further damage and have it inspected
by a qualified dealership.
- Repairs to the Audi air conditioner require
special technical knowledge and special
tools. Contact an authorized Audi dealer for
assistance.
@ For the sake of the environment
By reducing the amount of fuel you use, you
also reduce the amount of pollutants emitted
into the air.
(D Tips
-Keep the air intake slots (in front of the
windshield) free from ice, snow and debris
in order to maintain the proper function of
the climate control system.
- The energy management system may switch
the seat heating* or rear window defroster
off temporarily. These systems are available
again as soon as the energy balance has
been restored.
- The air flowing out of the vents and
throughout the vehicle's entire interior is
discharged at the rear of the vehicle. Make
sure that the outlet slots are not covered by clothing, etc.

Introduction

Gener al inf orm ation
The hybr id drive is a combined drive concept that
automatically switches between combustion en­
g ine and electr ic drive types or combines them.
All work on h igh voltage systems is intended only
for h igh voltage technicians and may only be per­
formed by authorized service facilities in accord­
ance w ith Aud i regulations.
The high voltage system is composed of the fol­ lowing h igh voltage components: the h igh volt­
age battery, the power electronics, the e lectr ic
motor, the h igh voltage A/C compressor and the
orange h igh vo ltage w iring.
High volta ge battery
The high voltage battery is located in the luggage
compartment underneath the cargo floor . You do
not need to perform any maintenance work on
the high voltage battery. Additional information
about the h igh vo ltage battery can be found un­
der
r::!v page 105 .
The high voltage battery service plug is a lso
found underneath an orange cover under the ca r­
go floo r. T he service plug is provided on ly for use
by service personne l and must not be removed by
others who are not trained to use it .
A WARNING
The voltage in the high voltage system is life­
threatening. Touching a damaged high vo lt­
age component can result in a fatal electric
shock. The components in the high voltage
system are marked w ith a warning label wh ich
warns against the h igh voltage.
- Never perform work on orange h igh voltage
cables or on high voltage components. Only
authorized repair facilities that are certified
may perform wo rk on the high voltage sys­
tem.

- Never open or remove the service plug cover
in the center of the cargo floor.
- Never damage, alter o r remove the orange
high voltage cable or disconnect it from the
high voltage system.
- Aud i regu lations must be followed during
all work performed on the high voltage sys­
tem and high voltage components.
A WARNING
While in electric dr ive mode, the veh icle pro­
duces considerab ly less id ling, driving and op­
erat ing no ise than when the combustion en­
g ine is running. This may make it difficult or
impossible fo r othe rs such as pedes trians and
chi ld ren to hear and notice the veh icle when it
is in electrical drive mode . This can lead to
collisions and inj uries, for example in low traf ­
fic areas, when maneuvering or when driving
in reverse.
A WARNING
Never leave the vehicle unattended whi le in
the drive ready mode. The vehicle could begin moving if the accelerator peda l is pressed,
even if the combustion engine is switched off .
This may cause collisions and severe or fatal injuries. When the vehicle enters dr ive ready
mode, the status message

-When exi ting the vehicle, make sure these ­
lecto r lever is i n the P position, the ignition
is switched off and the hybrid system is de­
activated.
(D Note
- T he h igh voltage system can be damaged if
the vehicle underbody comes into contact
with the ground. Immediate ly drive your ve­
hicle to an authorized repair facility and
have it inspected.
- Do not transport fluids in open containers in
the luggage compartment. Spill ed fluids
can seep underneath the cargo floor. This
can damage the high voltage system.

Audi adapt ive cru ise control and brak ing gu ard
- For safety reasons, do not use adaptive
cruise control when driving on roads with
many curves, when the road surface is in
poor condition and/or in bad weather (such
as ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hydrop lan­
ing). Using the system under these condi­
t ions could resu lt in a col lision.
- Switch adaptive cruise control off tempora­
rily when driving in turn ing lanes, on ex­
pressway exits or in construction zones. This
prevents the vehicle from accelerating to
the set speed when in these situat ions.
- The adapt ive cr uise control sys tem wi ll not
brake by itself if yo u put you r foot on the ac­
celerator pedal. Doing so can ove rride the
speed and distance regulation.
- When approach ing stationary objects such
as stopped traffic, adaptive cruise control
will not respond and braking g uard will have
limited function.
- The adapt ive cr uise control system and brak­
ing guard do not react to people, animals,
objects cross ing the road or oncoming ob­
jects .
- The function of the radar sensor can be af ­
fected by reflective objects such as guard rails, the entrance to a tunnel , heavy rain or
ice.
- Never follow a veh icle so closely that you
cannot stop your vehicle safe ly . The adap­
t ive cru ise control cannot s low or brake the
vehicle safely when you fo llow another veh i­
cl e too close ly. Always remembe r that the
automa tic brak ing funct ion c annot bring the
vehicle to a sud den or emergency stop un­
der these conditions.
- To prevent unin tended operation, always
switch adaptive c ruise control off when it is
not be ing used .
(D Note
The sensor can be displaced by impa cts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody . That could affect the adaptive
cruise contro l system and braking gua rd . Have
your authorized A udi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility check their function .

curve, the adaptive cruise control may react to a
vehicle in the next lane and apply the brakes . You
can override or prevent the braking by pressing
the accelerator peda l briefly .

The adaptive cruise contro l system only reacts to
ob jects that are moving or that the system has
already detected as moving. For example, if ave­
hicle @, which has already been de tec ted by the
adap tive cruise con trol, turns or changes lanes
and another stationary veh icle @ is located in
front of that ve hicle, the system will not react to
the stat ionary vehicle.

Audi side a ssist
- Improper reliance on the side assist system
can cause collisions and serious personal in­
jury:
- Never rely only on side assist when chang­
ing lanes.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make sure that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side assist cannot detect a ll vehicles under
all conditions -danger of accident!
- Please note that side assist indicates there
are approaching vehicles, o r vehicles in your
blind spot, only after your vehicle has
reached a dr iv ing speed of at least 19 mph
(30 km/h).
- In certa in situations, the system may not
func tion or its funct ion may be lim ited. For
example:
- if vehicles are approaching or be ing left
behind very qu ickly. The display may not
turn on in time .
- in poor weather condit ions such as heavy
ra in, snow or heavy m ist .
- on very wide lanes, in tight curves or if
there is a rise in the road surface . Vehicles
in the adjacent lane may not be detected
because they ar e outside of the sensor
range.

The display br ightness adjusts au tomatically to
the b rightness of the surroundings, both in the
i nforma tion and in the wa rni ng stage. I n ve ry
dark or very b rig ht s urround ings, the display is al­
ready set to the m inimum or maximum level by
the automatic adjustme nt. In such cases, yo u
may notice no change when ad justing the bright­
ness, or the change may on ly be noticeable once
the surroundings change.
Adjust the brightness to a level where the d isp lay
in the information stage will not disrupt yo ur
view forward . If yo u change the brightness, the
display in the exterior mirror will briefly show the brightness level in the information stage. The
brightness of the warning stage is linked to the
brightness in the information stage and is adjust­
ed along with the information stage adjustment .

Improperly worn safety belts
Incorrectly positioned safety belts can cause se­
vere injuries.
Wearing safety belts improperly can cause seri­
ous injury or death. Safety belts can only work
when they are correctly posit ioned on the body .
Improper seating pos it ions reduce the effective­
ness of safety be lts and will even increase t he risk
of injury and death by moving the safety be lt to
cr itical areas of the body. Improper seating posi­
tions a lso increase the risk of serious injury and
death when an airbag deploys and strikes an oc­
cupant who is not in the correct seating posit ion.
A dr iver is responsible for the safety of all vehicle
occupants and espec ially for children. Therefore :
"' Never permit anyone to assume an incorrect sit -
ting position in the vehicle while traveling

A WARNING
Improperly worn safety belts increase the risk
of serious personal injury and death whenever
a vehicle is being used.

Belt tensioners
· How safety belt pretensioners work
In front, side and rear-end collisions above a
particular severity and in a rollover, safety belts
are tensioned automatically.
The safety belts are equipped with safety belt
pretensioners . The system is act ivated by sensors
i n front, side and rear-end coll is ions of great se­
verity and in a rollover . This tightens the belt and
takes up belt s lack

T aking up
the slack helps to reduce forward occupant
movement during a collision.

Neve r let the belt remain ove r a rear seatback
that has been folded forward .
(D Tips
The safety belt pretensioner can only be acti­
vated once.
- In minor frontal and s ide collisions, in rear­
end co llisions and in acc idents involving
very little impac t fo rce, the safety belt pre­
tensioner are not activated.
- When the safety belt pretensione rs are acti­
vated, a f ine dust is released. This is normal
and is not caused by a fi re in the vehicle.
- T he re levant safety requirements mus t be
observed when the vehicle or components
of the system are scrapped . An authorized
Audi dealer or qua lified wor kshop is familia r
with these regulations and will be pleased
to pass on the information to you.
- Be sure to observe all safety, env ironmental
and other regu lations if the veh icle or indi­
vidual parts of the system, part icu larly the
safety belt or airbag, are to be disposed. We
