Checking and Filling
-Do not interchange the positive and nega­
tive cables .
- When working on the battery, be sure not to
short-circuit the terminals with tools or oth­
er metal objects. This would cause the bat­
tery to heat up very quickly, which could
lead to damage or explosion and personal
injury .
- When a battery is charged, it produces hy­
drogen gas which is explosive and could
cause personal injury.
- Always keep the battery well out of the
reach of children .
- Before work is done on the electrical sys­
tem, disconnect the negative ground cable .
- Before performing any work on the electri­
cal system, switch off the engine and igni ­
tion as well as any electrical equipment. The
negative cable on the battery must be dis­
connected. If you are just going to replace a
light bulb, then it is enough to switch off
the lights.
- Before disconnecting the battery, switch off
the anti-theft alarm system! Otherwise you
will set off the alarm.
- When disconnecting the battery, first dis­
connect the negative cable and then the
positive cable.
- Before reconnecting the battery, make sure
all electrical consumers are switched off. Re­
connect the positive cable first and then the
negative cable . Never interchange the ca­
bles -this could start a fire!
- Never charge a frozen or a thawed-out bat­
tery. It could explode! If a battery has fro­
z en, then it must be replaced . A discharged
battery can freeze over at 32°F (O°C).
- Make sure the vent hose is always attached
to the opening on the side of the battery .
- Never use batteries which are damaged.
There is the danger of an explosion! Always
replace a damaged battery.

- Do not disconnect the vehicle battery when
the ignition is switched on or when the en­
gine is running, otherwise , you will damage
electronic components in the electrical sys­
tem .
- If your vehicle is going to stand for a long
period of time without being driven, protect
the battery from "freezing", otherwise it
will be damaged and will then have to be re­ placed.

Check/correct the pressures of all four tires and
store the pressure again in the Infotainment sys­
tem

ffim (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Tire pres­
sure: System malfunction!. If
iUm appears after
switching the ignition on or while driving and the
ti] indicator light in the instrument cluster
blinks for approximately one minute and then
stays on, there is system malfunction. Try to
store the correct tire pressures
c::> page 254 . If
the indicator light does turn off or turns on again
after a short period of time, drive to your author­ ized Audi dealer or qualified repair facility imme­
diately to have the malfunction corrected.
A WARNING
- If the tire pressure indicator appears in the
display, reduce your speed immediately and
avoid any hard steering or braking maneu­
vers. Stop as soon as possible and check the
tires and their pressure.
- The driver is responsible for maintaining the
correct tire pressure. You must check the
ti re pressure regularly.
- Under certain conditions (such as a sporty driving style, winter conditions or unpaved
roads), the tire pressure monitoring system
indicator may be delayed .
(D Tips
- The tire pressure monitoring system can al­
so stop working when there is an ESC mal­
function .
- Using snow chains may result in a system
malfunction.
- The Tire Pressure Monitoring System in your Audi was calibrated with "Audi Original
Equipment tires"

Consumer information
today's automobiles, have steadily reduced the
scope of maintenance and repairs which can be
carried out by vehicle owners.
Also, safety and
environmental
concerns place very strict limits
on the nature of repairs and adjustments to en­
gine and transmission parts which an owner can perform .
Maintenance, adjustments and repairs usually re­
quire special tools , testing devices and other
equipment available to specially trained work ­
shop personnel in order to assure proper per­
formance, reliability and safety of the vehicle and its many systems.
Improper maintenance, adjustments and repairs
can impair the operation and reliability of your
vehicle and even
void your vehicle warranty .
Therefore, proof of servicing in accordance with
the maintenance schedule may be a condition for
upholding a possible warranty claim made within
the warranty period .
Above all, operational safety can be adversely af­
fected, creating unnecessary risks for you and
your passengers.
If in doubt about any servicing, have it done by
your authorized Audi dealer or any other properly equipped and qualified workshop. We strongly
urge you to give your authorized Audi dealer the
opportunity to perform all scheduled mainte­ nance and necessary repairs. Your dealer has the
facilities, original parts and trained specialists to keep your vehicle running properly.
Performing limited maintenance yourself
The following pages describe a limited number of
procedures which can be performed on your vehi­
cle with ordinary tools, should the need arise and
trained personnel be unavailable. Before per­
forming any of these procedures, always thor­
oughly read all of the applicable text and careful­ly follow the instructions given . Always rigorously
observe the
WARNINGS provided.
Before you check anything in the engine com­
partment, always read and heed all WARNINGS

ment on page 221 .

A WARNING
-
-Serious personal injury may occur as a result
of improperly performed maintenance, ad ­
justments or repairs.
- Always be extremely careful when working
on the vehicle . Always follow commonly ac­
cepted safety pract ices and general com­
mon sense. Never risk personal injury.
- Do not attempt any of the maintenance,
checks or repairs described on the following
pages if you are not fully familiar with these
or other procedures with respect to the vehi­
cle, or are uncertain how to proceed.
- Do not do any work without the proper tools
and equipment. Have the necessary work
done by your authorized Audi dealer or an­
other properly equipped and qualified work­
shop.
- The engine compartment of any motor vehi­ cle is a potentially hazardous area. Never
reach into the area around or touch the radi­
ator fan. It is temperature controlled and
can switch on suddenly - even when the en­
gine is off and the ignition key has been re ­
moved. The radiator fan switches on auto­
mat ically when the coolant reaches a certain
temperature and will continue to run until
the coolant temperature drops.
- Always remove the ignition key before any­
one gets under the vehicle.
-Always support your vehicle with safety
stands if it is necessary to work underneath
the vehicle. The jack* supplied with the vehi­
cle is not adequate for this purpose and
could collapse causing serious personal in­
jury.
- If you must work underneath the vehicle
with the wheels on the ground, always make
sure the vehicle is on level ground, that the
wheels are always securely blocked and that
the engine cannot be started.
- Always make sure the transmission selector
lever (automatic transmission) is in P (Park
position) and the park brake is applied.
