Child safety lock for
the rear doors
The power child safety lock locks the rear win­
dows and prevent the rear doors from being
opened from the inside .

right rear door, press the left/right button

• To deactivate the child safety lock for the
left/right rear door , press the left/right but­

button turns off.
The following features are switched off:
- The interior door handles in the rear doors,
- The power windows in the rear doors .
In order to activate the ch ild safety lock on
the left and the right side , press the two safe­
ty buttons

a two-po sition function :
Opening the windows
• Press the switch to the first stop and hold it
until the window reaches the desired posi­
tion.
• Press the switch briefly to the
second stop
to automatically open the window.
Closing the windows
• Pull the switch to the first stop and hold it
until the window reaches the desired posi­
tion.
• Pull the switch briefly to the
second stop to
automatically close the window.

& WARNING
-When you leave your vehicle -even if on ­
ly briefly -always take the ignition key
with you . This applies particularly when
children remain in the vehicle. Otherwise
the children could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equipment (e .g . power
windows). The power windows are func­
tional until the driver's door or passeng­
er's door has been opened.
- Be careful when clos ing the w indows .
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied since the
windows can no longer be opened in an
emergency.
(D Tips
After the ignition has been switched off,
the windows can still be opened or closed
for about 10 minu tes. The power windows
are not switched off until the driver's door
or passenger's door has been opened.

.. To close the sunroof completely, press the
switch forward briefly to the second level

.. To select an intermediate position, press/
pull the switch forward/back to the first lev­
el until the desired position is reached.
The sun shade can be opened and closed by
hand when the sunroof is closed. The solar
protection opens automatically when the sun­
roof opens.
You can still close or open the sunroof for up
to ten minutes after you have switched the ig­
n ition off. The switch is deactivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened.
A WARNING
Pay careful attention when closing the
sliding/tilting sunroof -otherwise serious
injury could result! A lways take the key
w ith you when leaving the vehicle .

-
Always close your sliding/tilting sunroof
when leaving your vehicle. Sudden rain can
cause damage to the interior equipment of
your veh icle, part icu larly the electro nic
equ ipment.

The sliding/tilt ing s unroof will only open
at temperatures above -4°F (-20°C) .
Emergency closing of the sliding/tilting
sunroof
If the sunroof detects an object in its path
when it is closing, it will open again automati­
cally. In this case, you can close the roof with
the power emergency closing function .
.. Within five seconds after the sunroof opens
automatically, pull the switch until the roof
closes .

You can activate various systems such as ga­
rage doors, security systems and home light­
ing from inside your vehicle using the garage
door opener (Homelink). There are three but­
tons for this in the vehicle headliner that can
be in used in place of up to three hand-held
transmitters .
To operate systems using the garage door
opener, the three buttons in the roof headlin­
er must be programmed first .
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the
immediate vicin ity of the equipment when
using or p rogramming the garage door
opener. People can be injured and objects
can be damaged if they are caught in the
eq uipment.

- Automatic headlights are only intended
to assist the driver . They do not relieve
the driver of his responsibility to check
the headlights and to turn them on man­
ually according to the current light and
visibility conditions. For example, fog
cannot be detected by the light sensors.
So always switch on the headlights

under these weather conditions and
when driving in the dark.
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
theheadlightssothatyoucanseeahead and so that others can see your car from
the back .
- The rear fog lights should only be turned
on in accordance with traffic regulation,
as the lights are bright for following traf­
fic.
- Please observe legal regulations when using the lighting systems described .
@ Tips
-The light sensor* for automatic head­
light range control* is located in the rear
view mirror mount . You should therefore
not apply any st ickers to the windshield
in this area in order to prevent malfunc­
tions or failures.
- In the event of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is notified in the instru­
ment cluster display

-You will hear a warning tone if you open
the driver door when the exterior lights
are switched on.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of
the headlights, turn signa ls and tail
lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clear shortly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.
Emergency flasher
T he emergency flasher makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle are in an emer­
gency situation .

.. Press the switch ~ Q fig. 3 7 to turn the
emergency flashers on or off.
When the emergency flasher is on, all four
turn s ignals blink at the same time. The turn
signal indicator lights
11111 in the instru­
ment cluster, as well as the light in the emer­
gency flasher switch~ blink likewise. The
emergency flashers also work when the igni­
tion is turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automati­
cally if you are in an accident where the airbag
has deployed.
@ Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
- you are the last vehicle standing in a traf­
fic jam so that any other vehicles coming
can see you, or when
- your vehicle has broken down or you are
in an emergency situation, or when
-your vehicle is being towed by a tow
truck or if you are towing another vehicle
behind you.
Adjusting the exterior lighting
The settings are adjusted in the MMI.

The instrument illumination (for dials and
needles) lights on when the ign it ion is
sw itched on and the vehicle lig hts are
turned off. As the daylight fades, the ill u­
m ination of the dials likewise dims auto­
mat ically and w ill go out comp lete ly when
the o utside lig ht is ve ry low. This fea ture is
meant to remi nd you t o swit ch on the
headl igh ts when o utside light condi tions
become poor.

protect ion. The sun s hade can only be ex­
tended/retracted again after a brief wait­
ing period.
- The rear window sun shade only func­
tions when the vehicle i nterior is warmer
than 14°F ( -10°() .

(I) -Rain sensor mode . The windshield w ipers
switch on once the vehicle speed exceeds ap­
p roximately 2 mph (4 km/h) and it is raining.
The higher the rain sensor sensitivity is set
(switch @to the right), the earlier the wind­
shield wipers react to moisture on the wi nd­
shie ld. You can deact ivate rain sensor mode in
the MMI, which w ill then activate intermittent
mode. Selec t:

> Off . In intermittent mode, you can
adjust the interval time using the switch@.
@-Slow wiping
@-Fast wiping
© -Single wipe. If you hold the lever in this
position longer, the wipers switch from slow
wiping to fast wip ing.
® - Clean the windshield. The wipers wipe
one time after several seconds of driv ing to
remove water drop lets. You can switch this
function off by mov ing the lever to position ®
within 10 seconds after the afterw ipe . The af­
terw ipe fun ct ion is react ivated the next time
you swit ch the ig nition on.
Cleaning the headlights* . The headlight wash­
e r system* operates only when the headlights
are on. If you move the lever to pos ition ®, t
h e headlights and the night vision assistant
camera* are washed in intervals.
.&_ WARNING

-The rain sensor is only designed to assist
and support the driver.
It remains entire­
ly t he driver's responsibility to monitor
outside weather cond itions and to man­
ually activate the wipe rs as soon as rain
or drizzle reduces v isibility through the
windshie ld.
- The windsh ield must no t be treated w ith
wate r-repellent mate rials. They can in­
crease glare unde r poo r vis ibility condi ­
tions such as we tness, d arkness, or when
the s un is low on the hor izon. In addi­
tion, they can cause the w indshield w ip­
ers to chatter .
- Prope rly f unctioning windshield wiper
b lades are required for a clear view and
safe driving

- In the case of frost, check whethe r th e
windshield wiper blades are frozen to
the windsh ield. Sw itching on the wind­
shield wipers can damage the wiper
blades!
- Prior to us ing a car wash, the w indshield
w iper system must be sw itched off (lever
in posit ion @). Th is he lps to prevent un­
intentional switching on and damage to
the winds hield wiper system.
- Do not use the w ipers to clear a frosted
w indow. Us ing the wipers as a conven­
ient ice scrape r will destroy the wipe r
blades .
(D Tips
-The windshie ld w ipers are switched off
w hen the ignit ion is off . Activate the
w indshield wipers after the ign ition is
s witched back o n by moving the w ind­
shield wiper lever to any position.
- Worn or dirty windshield wipe r blade s
result in streaking. This can affec t the

rain sensor function. Check your
windshield wiper b lades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles of the wind­
sh ield washer system are heated at low
temperatures when the ignit ion is on .
- When stopping temporarily, e .g . at a
traffic light , the set speed of the wind­
shield wipers is automatically red uced by
one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the wind shield wiper bl ades when they
begin to leave streaks . Use a soft cloth and
glass cleaner to clean the windsh ield wiper
b lades.

- Yo u should not move your vehicle or
press the windshield wiper lever when
the wiper arms are folded away from the
w indshield . The windsh ield wipers wou ld
move back into their original position
and could damage the hood a nd wind­
shield .
- To help prevent damage to the w iper sys­
tem, always loosen blades w hich are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers. ..,.

-To help prevent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint
thinner, or other solvents on or near the
wiper blades.
- To help prevent damage to the wiper
arms or other components, do not at­
tempt to move the wipers by hand.
@ Tips
- Commercial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affect the cleanability
of the windshield .
- You can also use the service position, for
example, if you want to protect the
windshield from icing by using a cover .
- You cannot activate the service position
when the hood is open.
Mirrors

Turn the knob to the desired position :
Q/P -In this position, you can adjust the
driver's and front passenger's exterior mirrors
by turning the knob in the desired direction .
4ill-The mirrors are heated depending on the
outside temperature .
8 -The exterior mirrors fold in. In the MMI,
you can select if the mirrors fold in automati­
cally when you lock the vehicle ¢
page 34.
Tilt function for the passenger's mirror
To help you see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts slightly.
The knob must be in the P position
for this to happen.
You can adjust the tilted mirror surface by
turning the knob in the desired direction.
When you move out of reverse and into anoth­
er gear, the new mirror posit ion is stored and
assigned to the key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph (15
km/h) or switch the ignition
off.
.&_ WARNING
--
-Curved (i.e. convex) mirror surfaces in-
crease your field of view. Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear
smaller and farther away than when seen in a flat mirror. If you use this mirror to
estimate distances of following vehicles
when changing lanes, you could estimate
incorrectly and cause an accident.
(D Note
-If the mirror housing is moved uninten­
tionally (for example, while parking your
vehicle), then you must first fold the mir­
ror electrically. Do not readjust the mir­
ror housing manually. You could damage
the motor which controls the mirror.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic
car wash, you must fold the exterior mir­
rors in to reduce the risk of damage to
the mirrors. Never fold power folding ex­
terior mirrors* by hand . Only fold them
in and out using the power controls.

- The exterior mirror settings are stored
with the memory function*¢
page 56.
-If there is a malfunction in the electrical
system, you can still adjust the exterior
mirrors by pressing the edge of the mir­
ror.
