You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engi ne with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integ rat­
ed in the remote co ntrol key~ page
32 .
® Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should on ly be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not car ry
it on your key ring .
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized A udi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa­
b led. Be s ure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom ­
mended that each person always uses "t heir
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, persona l
conven ience settings for the follow ing sys­
tems are stored and ass igned to the remote
maste r key.

The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or w hen you switch t he ignition on.
A WARNING
- Do not leave you r vehicle unattended. A l­
ways take your ig nition key wi th you and
loc k your v ehicle. Entry by unau th or ize d
pe rsons could endanger yo u or resul t in
theft or d amage t he vehi cle.
- D o not leave c hildren una ttended in t he
veh icle, especi ally wi th a ccess to vehicle

can be temporar ily disrupted by inte rfer­

support, side bolsters and seating surface us­
ing the multifunction button .

senger 's seat whi le the vehicle is moving.
If you do th is while the veh icle is moving,
you will be out of position . A lways adj ust

- Be careful when ad justing the seat
he ight. Check to see that no one is in the
way, or serio us injury co ul d resu lt!
- Because the seats can be e lectrically ad­
justed with the igni tion off, never leave
child ren unattended in the veh icle. Uns u­
pervised use o f the electric seat adj ust ­
ments may cause serious injury.
- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden braking o r accident, front pas ­
sengers must never ride in a moving ve­
hicle with the backrest reclined. Safety be lts and the airbag system only offer
maximum protection when the backrest is upr ight and the safety belts are prop·
erly positioned on the body. The more
the backrest is reclined, the greater the
ris k of persona l injury from an incor re ct
seating position and improperly pos i­
tioned safety belts.
(D Tips
- T he massage function switches off auto­
matically after approximately 10 mi­
nu tes.
- T he side bolsters* deflate when t he d riv­
er's door is opened. This allows you to
enter and exit comfortably. The side bol­
sters inflate again once you begin d riv­
ing .

Adjusting the he ad restr aint s
• To move the head restraint up, hold it at the
s ides with both hands and slide it upward
until you feel it lock into place.
• To move the head restraint down, press the
button -ar row-

• Move the head restraint upward as far as it
can go.
• Press the release

• Slide the posts on the head restraint down
into the guides until you feel the posts lock
i nto place. •
Press the b utton -arrow-
c::> fig. 53 and slide
the head restraint all the way down . You
should not be able to pull the head restraint
out of the backrest.
So that the dr iver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints should be p ushed
down completely when the rear seats are not
occupied.
A WARNING
-- On ly remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat . Install the head restraint agai n im­
mediately once the child seat is removed.
Dr iving without head rest rain ts or wi th
head restra ints tha t a re no t properly ad­
justed increases the risk of ser ious or fa­
tal neck injury dramatically .

Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memory function allows you to quickly
and easily stor e and recall pe rsonal seati ng
profiles for the d river an d front passenger *.
T he memory f un ction is opera ted th ro ugh the
mas ter key and the memory buttons in the
driver's/front passenger's* doors .
T he driver's seat ing profile is stored and as­
s igned to the master key ea ch time the vehicle
i s lo cked. When yo u open the door, the sea t­
i ng profile is automatically reca lled . If two
people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own"
master key.
T wo sea ting profiles can be stored in each of
the d river's/front passenger's * doors. Once
stored, these seating profiles can be recalled
at any time.

Switching the memory function on/off
• Press the IOFFI but ton to swi tch the memory
fu nction on/off . The LED in the button ill u­
m inates when the memory function is
sw itched off . Seating profiles are neither
stored nor recalled.
Storing a seating profile
• Press the ISET I button. When the word SET
lights up, the memory is ready to store set­
tings.
• Press a memory button briefly. A tone con­
firms that the settings were stored.
Accessing a seating profile
• If the driver's door is open and the ignition
is swi tched off, press t he memory b utton.
• If the driver's door is closed or the ignition is
sw itched on, press and ho ld the memory
button until the seat adjustment is com­
plete.
A WARNING
- For safety reasons, the sea t setting
should only be recalled when the veh icle
is stationary - o therw ise y ou risk hav ing
an acc ident.
- I f necessary, you stop th e process by
press ing the
jOFF ! butt on o r any o f the
memory buttons.

There must be at least 10 inc hes (25 cm) be­
tween you r chest and the center of the steer ­
ing whee l.
If you cannot sit more than 10 in­
ches (25 cm) from the steering whee l, see if
adaptive equipment is available to help you reach the pedals and increase the distance
from the steer ing wheel.

In vehicles with the memory f unction* , the
steering column settings are stored together
with the seat position.
A WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjust­
ment and improper seating position can
cause se rious personal injury.
- Adjust the steer ing whee l column on ly
when the vehicle is not moving to pre­
vent loss of veh icle control.

- Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel
so that the re is a min imum of 10 inches
(25 cm) between your chest and the
steering wheel ¢
page 12 7, fig. 144. If
you can not maintain this min imum dis­
tan ce, the airbag system cannot protect
yo u properly.
- If phys ica l limi tations prevent you from
sitting 10 in ches (25 cm) o r more from
the steering wheel, check with yo ur au­
tho rized Aud i dealer to see if adaptive
equipment is availab le .
- If the steering wheel is aligned with you r
face, the supp lemental drive r's airbag
cannot provide as much protect ion in an
acc ident. A lways make sure that the
steering wheel is aligned with your
chest.
- Always hold the steering wheel with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
t ions to reduce the risk of pe rsonal injury
if the d river 's airbag deploys.
- Never hold the steering whee l at the 12
o'clock posit ion or w ith your hands i nside the steering wheel rim or on the steering
wheel hub. Hold

to the hands, arms and head if the driv­
er 's airbag deploys.
Easy entry feature
Applies to vehicles: with electrically adjustable steering
wheel
The easy entry feature makes it easier to en­
ter and exit the vehicle by automatically ad­
justing the steering wheel.

When the easy ent ry feature is turned on, the
steering wheel moves up to the park position
when you switch

bags to be installed in your vehicle.
Child restraints on the front seat -some
important things to know
.. Be sure to read the important informat ion
and heed the WARNINGS for important de­
ta ils about ch ildren and Advanced Airbags
¢page 171.
Even though your vehicle is equ ipped with an
Advanced Airbag System, make ce rtain that
all chi ldren, especially those 12 years and
younger, a lways ride in the back seat p roperly
restrained for their age and size. The airbag
on the passenger side makes the front seat a
potentially dangerous place for a chi ld to ride.
The front seat is not the safest place for a
child in a forward-facing child seat. It can be a
very dange rous place for an infant or a ch ild in
a rearward-facing seat.
The Advanced Airbag System in your veh icle
has been certified to comply with the require­
ments of United States Federal Motor Veh icle
Safety Standard 208 as applicable at the time
your ve hicle was manufactured .
The Standard requires the front a irbag on the
passenger side to be turned off ("sup ­
pressed") if a c hild up to about one yea r of
age restra ined in one of the rear-facing or fo r­
ward-facing infan t restra ints listed i n Federal
Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 with w hich
the Advanced Ai rbag System in you r vehicle
was certified has been installed on the front
passenger seat. For a listing of the child re­
straints that were used to certify compliance
with the US Safety Standard

U.S. Federal Standard if a child with elec­
trical capac itance greater than the com­
bined capacitance of a typical one-year
old infant restrained in one of the for­
ward fac ing or rearward-fac ing ch ild

fied is on the front passenger seat and
the other conditions for airbag deploy­ ment are met.
- Acc ident statist ics have shown that chil­
dren are generally safer in the rea r seat
area than in the front seating posit ion .
- For their own safety, all children, espe­
cially 12 years and younger, sho uld al­
ways ride in the back p roperly rest rained
for their age and size .
Advanced front airbag system
Your vehicle is equipped with a front Advanced
Airbag System in comp liance with Un ited
States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208 as applicable at the time your vehicle was
manufactured.
The front Advanced Airbag System supple­ ments the safety belts to provide add it iona l
protection for the driver's and front passeng­
e r's heads and upper bodies in frontal crashes.
The airbags inflate only in frontal impacts
when the vehicle dece le rat io n is high enough.
The front Advanced A irbag System for the
front seat occupants is not a substitute for
your safety belts . Rather, it is part of the over­
all occupant rest raint system in your ve hicle.
A lways remember that the airbag system can
only help to pro tect you, if you are s itting up­
righ t, wearing your sa fety belt and wearing it
properly. This is why you and yo ur passengers
must always be properly restrained, not just
because the law requires you to be.
The Advanced Airbag System in your vehicle h as been certified to meet the " low r isk" re­
q ui rements for 3 and 6 year-o ld children on
the passenger s ide and very small adu lts on
the dr iver side. The low risk deployment crite­
ria are intended to he lp reduce the risk of i n­
j ury through interaction with the front airbag

that can occur, for examp le, by being too
close to the steering wheel and instr ument
panel when the airbag inflates .
In add ition, the system has been certified to
comply with the "s uppression" requirements
of the Safety Standard, to turn off the front
airbag for in fants 12 months o ld and younger
who are restrained on the front passenger
seat in child restraints that are listed in the
Standard
c> page 173, Child restraints and
Advanced front airbag system .
"Suppression" requires the front a irbag on the
passenger side to be turned off if:
- a child up to abo ut one year of age is re­
strained on the front passenger seat in one
of the rear-fac ing or forward -facing infant
restraints listed in Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standard 208 with which the Ad ­
vanced Airbag System in your ve hicle was
cert ified . For a listing of the chi ld restraints
that were used to certify you r vehicle's com­
p lia nce w it h t he US Safety Standa rd

-When a pe rson is detec ted o n the front pas ­
senge r seat that has an e lec trica l capa ci­
tance t hat is more than the tota l electrical
capacitance of a child that is about 1 year
old restrained in one of the rear-facing or
forward-facing infant restraints (listed in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208
w ith which the Advanced A irbag System in
your vehicle was certified), the front airbag
on the passenger side may or may not de­
ploy.
The
PASSENG ER AIR BAG OFF light comes on
when the electron ic cont ro l unit detects a to ­
ta l elect rical capac itance on the front passen­
ger seat that requi res the front a irbag to be
turned off. If the
PAS SENGER AIR BAG OFF
light does no t come on, the front airbag on
the passenger side has not been turned off by
the contro l unit and can deploy if the control
u nit senses an impact that meets the condi­
tions stored in its memory.
