zIf the warning display appears, refuel assoon as possible. If the vehicle is runs out of fuel, theengine will not start even in a situationneed to be generated electricity, the fol-lowing conditions will occur.•The driving performance falls (sinceonly the electrical power stored in thedrive battery can be used for the driv-ing).•The heating performance cannot beavailable (except vehicles with electricheater).•The effectiveness of the heater is insuffi-cient (vehicles with electric heater).•The catalytic converter may be damageddue to excessive high temperature.
Refer to “Filling the fuel tank” on page 2-13.Refer to “Fuel remaining display screen” onpage 6-9.

zIt is the battery to operate the motor andthe air conditioning. In addition to the drive battery, OutlanderPHEV has the auxiliary battery to operatelamps, wipers, etc. zCompact, light-weight lithium ion batterywith high energy density is used for thedrive battery. zThe drive battery has the following char-acteristics.Please read this carefully paying attentionto the following: zThe same as ordinary lithium-ion batter-ies, the battery capacity of the drive bat-tery gradually reduces with time, resultingin reduced cruising range. Depending onthe usage conditions, such as frequentquick acceleration/deceleration,extremely hot weather, storing the vehiclein high ambient temperatures, etc., therate of battery capacity drop will increase.
Refueling (gasoline)
CAUTION zDepending on the opera
ting conditions of
your vehicle, the fuel in the fuel tank maynot be used for a long time and stay in thetank, resulting in deterioration of the fuelquality. As this may af
fect the engine and
fuel system parts, observe the followinginstructions:•Run the engine by pressing the batterycharge switch at least once in 3 months.Refer to “Battery charge switch” on page7-23.• Refuel 20 litres or more of fuel every 6months (to make the total refueling amountin 6 months be 20 litres or more).
zIf refueling of the above
amount is not possi-
ble due to a high fuel level because the vehi-cle has not been used for a long time or forsome other reason, consult a MITSUBISHIMOTORS Authorised Service Point.
Drive battery
WA R N I N G zA sealed lithium ion
high voltage battery
(drive battery) is
adopted for Outlander
PHEV. If the drive battery is disposed ofimproperly, there is a
risk of severe burns
and electrical shock that may result inserious injury or death and there is also arisk of environmental damage.
zNever attempt to use the drive battery forany other purpose.

When the fuel is reduced to about 7 litres, theinformation screen switches to the interruptdisplay of the fuel remaining warning display, and the “ ” mark (B) on the fuel remainingdisplay flashes slowly (about once per sec-ond). After a few seconds, the informationscreen returns from the fuel remaining warn-ing display to the previous screen. When the fuel is reduced further to about 5litres, the information screen switches to thefuel remaining warning display and the “ ”mark (B) on the fuel remaining displayflashes quickly (about twice per second).

The tripmeter indicates the distance travelledbetween two points.
Fuel remaining warning display
CAUTION zIf the warning display a
ppears, refuel as soon
as possible. If the vehicle is runs out of fuel, the enginewill not start even in
a situation need to be
generated electricity, the following condi-tions will occur.•The driving performance falls (since onlythe electrical power stored in the drive bat-tery can be used for the driving).•The heating performance cannot be availa-ble (except vehicles with electric heater).•The effectiveness of the heater is insuffi-cient (vehicles with electric heater).•The catalytic converter may be damageddue to excessive high temperature.NOTE
zOn inclines or curves, the display may beincorrect due to the movement of fuel in thetank. zBattery save or battery charge may not beactivated even if the battery save switch orthe battery charge switch is pressed, depend-ing on the remaining quantity of the drivebattery or the control condition of the sys-tem.
Outside temperature display screen
This displays the temperatureoutside the vehicle.
NOTE
zThe display setting can be changed to thepreferred units (°C or °F).Refer to “Changing the function settings” onpage 6-15. zDepending on factors such as the drivingconditions, the displayed temperature mayvary from the actual outside temperature.

The exhaust gas scavenging devices usedwith catalytic converter are extremely effi-cient for the reduction of noxious gases. Thecatalytic converter is installed in the exhaustsystem. It is important to keep the engine properlytuned to ensure proper catalyst operation andprevent possible catalyst damage.

1. Pull the release lever towards you tounlock the bonnet.
zMake sure that the engine and Plug-inHybrid EV system has cooled down beforeremoving the radiator cap and EV coolingsystem reserve tank cap, because hotsteam or boiling water otherwise will gushfrom the filler port and may scald you. zDo not smoke, cause sparks or allow openflames around fuel or auxiliary battery. The fumes are flammable. zBe extremely cautious when workingaround the auxiliary battery. It containspoisonous and corrosive sulphuric acid. zDo not get under your vehicle with just thebody jack supporting it. Always use auto-motive jack stands. zImproper handling of
components and
materials used in the vehicle can endangeryour personal safety. We recommend youto consult a specialist for necessary infor-mation. zThe components inside the engine roommight be very hot to the touch.To a v o i d b e i n g b u r n t , m a k e s u r e a l l c o m -ponents have sufficiently cooled beforebeginning an inspection. These compo-nents are affixed with the label indicatingprecautions for handling. Follow theinstructions on the label.WA R N I N G
