 The operation mode can be in any mode to start the engine.
 The starter motor will be turning for up to approximately 15 seconds if the engineswitch is released at once. Pressing the engine switch again while the starter motor is still turning will stop the startermotor. The starter motor will be turning for up to approximately 30 se
conds while the
engine switch is pressed. If the engine does not start, wait for a while and then attempt to start the engine again. Trying repeatedly with the engine or starter motor still turning will damagethe starter mechanism.  If the engine will not start because the bat- tery is weak or discharged, refer to“Jump-starting the engine” on page 8-2 for instructions.  A longer warm up period will only con- sume extra fuel. The engine is warmed up enough for driv- ing when the bar graph of engine coolanttemperature display starts to move or the low coolant temperature indicator goes out. Refer to “Engine
coolant temperature
display” on page 5-128 or “Low coolant temperature indica
tor” on page 5-166.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electroni- cally controlled fuel injection system. This system automatically controls fuel injection.There is no need to depress the accelerator pedal when starting the engine. To prevent battery drai
n, wait a few seconds
between attempts to restart the engine. 1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened. 2. Make sure the parking brake is applied.3. Press and hold the brake pedal down with your right foot.
 If there is a fault in the steering wheel lock, the warning display will
appear. Immediately

1. Stop the vehicle. 2. Fully engage the parking brake while depressing the brake pedal.
3. Move the selector
lever to the “P”
(PARK) position, and then press theengine switch to stop the engine.

Insert the F.A.S.T.-key into the key slot in the instrument panel. St
arting the engine and
changing the operation mode should be now possible. Remove the F..A.S.T.-key from the key slotafter starting the engine or changing the oper- ation mode.
Warning display (color liquid crystal display type) Warning light (mono-color liquid crystal dis- play type) If the operation mode is in OFF and the driver’s door is opened with the F.A.S.T.-key in the key slot, a warning is issued with the warning display and the buzzer buzzing forapproximately 3 seconds to remind you to remove the key.
Stopping the engine

WA R N I N G Do not operate the en
gine switch while
driving except in an emergency. If theengine is stopped while driving, the brake servomechanism will ce
ase to function and
braking efficiency will deteriorate. Also,the power steering system will not func- tion and it will require greater manual effort to operate the steering. This couldresult in a serious accident.NOTE
 If you have to bring the engine to an emer- gency stop while drivi
ng, press and hold the
engine switch for 3 sec
onds or more, or press
it quickly 3 times or more. The engine will stop and the operation mode will go to ACC.  Do not stop the engine wi
th the selector lever
in any position other than the “P” (PARK) position. If the engine
is stopped with the
selector lever in any
position other than the
“P” (PARK) position, the operation mode will go to ACC rather than OFF.Put the operation mode
in OFF after placing
the selector lever in the “P” (PARK) posi- tion.
If the F.A.S.T.-key is not operat- ing properly

NOTE
 Do not insert into the
key slot anything other
than the F.A.S.T.-key. This could cause dam- age or a malfunction.
 Remove the object or ad
ditional key from the
F.A.S.T.-key before inserting the key into thekey slot. The vehicle
may not be able to
receive the registered ID code from the regis- tered key. Therefore, the engine may not start and the operation mode may not change.

The sunshade can be
opened or closed manu-
ally while the sunroof is closed.

To park the vehicle, first bring it to a com-plete stop, fully engage the parking brake,and then move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position.
Sunshade

CAUTION Do not attempt to close the sunshade when the sunroof is opened. Be careful that hands are not trapped when closing the sunshade.WA R N I N G Do not stick your head

else in the sunroof opening. Before operating the sunroof, make sure that nothing can be trapped (head, hands, fingers, etc.). Never leave a child un

tended inside the vehicle.
NOTE
 When leaving the ve
hicle unattended, be
sure to close the sunroof and carry the key.  Do not try to operate th
e sunroof if it is fro-
zen closed (after snowfall or during extreme cold).  Do not sit on or plac
e heavy luggage on the
sunroof or roof opening edge.  Do not apply any force that may cause dam- age to the sunroof.  Release the switch when the sunroof has reached a completely
open or completely
closed position.  If the sunroof does not operate when the sun- roof switch is operate
d, release the switch
and check whether something is trapped by the sunroof. If nothing is trapped, have thesunroof checked at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.  Be careful when tilting up the sunroof if a ski carrier or a roof carrier is installed. Depend- ing on the model of ski carrier or roof carrier,the sunroof may contact the carrier when the sunroof is tilted up.  Be sure to close the sunroof completely when washing the vehicle or when leaving the vehicle.  Do not put any wax on the weatherstrip (black rubber) around the sunroof opening. Ifit is waxed, the weathe
rstrip cannot maintain
a weatherproof seal
with the sunroof.
 After washing the vehi
cle or after rain be
sure to wipe off any water that is on the sun- roof before operating it.
 Operating the sunroof repeatedly with the engine turned off will run down the battery.Operate the sunroof onl

When parking on a hill, set the parking brake, and turn the front wheels toward the curb on a downhill, or away from
the curb on an uphill.

To adjust the steering wheel to the desired position, move the lever upward or down- ward while moving the steering wheel to the desired position.
To apply 1- Pull the lever up without pushing the
button at the end of hand grip. When the parking brake is set and theignition switch is in the “ON” position, the brake warning light in the instru- ment cluster will come on. Before driving, be sure to release the parking brake.
To deactivate 1- Pull the lever up slightly. 2- Press and hold the button at the end of
the hand grip.
3- Push the lever downward.
CAUTION Before driving, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and brake warninglight is off.If you drive without the parking brake fully released, the warning di
splay will appear on
the information screen in the multi-informa-tion display. If a vehicle is driven without releasing the parking brake, the brak
es will be overheated,

When the selector lever cannot be shifted from the “P” (PARK) position to anotherposition while the brake pedal is pressed and held down with the operation mode in ON, the battery may be flat or the shift-lock mech-anism may be malfunctioning. Immediately have your
vehicle checked by an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice. If you need to move the vehicle, shift theselector lever as follows. 1. Make sure the parking brake is fully applied. 2. Stop the engine if it is running.
3. Insert a screwdrive
r with a cloth over its
tip into the notch (A) of the cover. Prygently as shown to remove the cover. 4. Depress the brake pedal with the right foot.5. Insert a screwdriver in the shift-lock release hole (B). Shift the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position whilepressing the screwdriver down.
