Tires with run-flat characteristics:

vehicle by Mercedes-Benzorthat are not
being used correctly can impair the operating
safety.

Operation
Information on driving
If the vehicle is heavily loaded, check the tire
pressures and correct them if necessary.
While driving, pay attention to vibrations,
noises and unusual handling characteristics,
e.g. pulling to one side. This may indicate that
the wheels or tires are damaged. If you
suspect thatatire is defective, reduce your
speed immediately. Stop the vehicle as soon
as possible to check the wheels and tires for
damage. Hidden tire damage could also be
causing the unusual handling characteristics.
If you find no signs of damage, have the tires

Bar indicatorfor treadwearisintegrated
into the tire tread.
Treadwear indicators(TWI) are required by
law. Six indicatorsare positioned on the tire
tread. Theyare visible once the treaddepth
is approximatelyin (1.6 mm). If this is the
case,the tire is so worn that it mustbe
replaced.
Selecting, mounting and replacing
tires
ROnly mount tires and wheels of the same
type and make.
Exception: it is permissible to install a
different type or make in the event ofaflat
tire. Observe the "MOExtended tires (tires
with run-flat characteristics" section
(Ypage321).
ROnly mount tires of the correct size onto
the wheels.
RBreak in new tires at moderate speeds for
the first 60 miles(100 km).They only reach
their full performance after this distance.
RDo not drive with tires which have too little
tread depth, as this significantly reduces
the traction on wet roads (hydroplaning).
RReplace the tires after six years at the
latest, regardless of wear.
Observe the notes on the emergency spare
wheel (Ypage 367).
MOExtended tires (tires with run-flat
properties)
With MOExtended tires (tires with run flat
characteristics), you can continue to drive
your vehicle even if there isatotal loss of
pressure in one or more tires.
MOExtended tires may only be used in
conjunction with an active tire pressure loss
warning system or with an active tire pressure
monitor and on wheels specifically tested by
Mercedes-Benz.
Notes on driving with MOExtended tires with
aflat tire (Ypage 321).
iVehicles equipped with MOExtended tires
are not equipped withaTIREFIT kit at the
factory. It is therefore recommended that
you additionallyequip your vehicle with a
TIREFIT kit if you mount tires that do not
feature run-flat properties, e.g. winter tires.
ATIREFIT kit can be obtained from a
qualified specialist workshop.
Winter operation
General notes
Have your vehicle winterproofed ataqualified
specialist workshop at the onset of winter.
Observe the notes in the "Changingawheel"
section (Ypage 357).
Driving with summer tires
At temperatures below 45‡(+7 †), summer
tires lose elasticity significantly,and
therefore traction and braking power as well.
Change the tires on yourvehicle to
M+S tires. Using summer tires at very cold
temperatures could cause crackstoform,
thereby damaging the tires permanently.
Mercedes-Benz cannot accept responsibility
for this type of damage.
M+S tires
GWARNING
M+S tires withatiretread depthofless than
in (4 mm)are notsuitable for use in winter
and do notprovide sufficient traction.There
isariskofanaccident.
M+S tires withatread depthofless than
in (4 mm)must be replacedimmediately.
At temperatures below 45‡(+7 †), use
winter tires or all-weather tires. Both typesof
tireare identified by theM+S marking.

GWARNING
Tireswithtirepressuresthatare toolow or
toohigh are associated withthefollowing
hazards:
Rthey can burst, in particular if thevehicle is
heavily laden or when driven at high
speeds.
Rthetires can wear excessively and/or
unevenly, whichcan severely impairtire
traction.
Rthe driving, steeringand braking
characteristics may be severely impaired.
There isarisk of accident.
Follow recommended tireinflation pressures
and checkthe pressure of all the tires
including the spare wheel:
Rmonthly, at least
Rif the load changes
Rbefore beginningalong journey
Runder different operating conditions,e.g.
off-road driving
If necessary, correct the tire pressure.

Recommended tire pressures
The Tire and Loading Information placard is
on the B-pillar on the driver's side
(Ypage 345).
The Tire and Loading Information placard
contains the recommended tire pressures for
cold tires. The recommended tire pressures
are valid for the maximum permissible load
and up to the maximum permissible vehicle
speed.
Tire pressuretable
The tire pressure table is on the inside of the
fuel filler flap.

The tire pressure table contains the
recommended pressures for cold tires for
various operating conditions, i.e. differing
load and speed conditions.

Observe the notes on tire pressure
(Ypage 338).

Checking tire pressures manually
To determine and set the correct tire
pressure, proceed as follows:
XRemove the valve cap of the tire that is to
be checked.
XPress the tire pressure gauge securely onto
the valve.
XRead the tire pressure and compare it with
the recommended value on the Tire and
Loading Information placard (Ypage 338).
XIf the tire pressure is too low, increase it to
the recommended value.
XIf the tire pressure is too high, release air
by pressing down the metal pin in the valve.
Use the tip ofapen, for example. Then,
check the tire pressure again using the tire
pressure gauge.
XScrew the valve cap onto the valve.
XRepeatthese steps for the other tires.
Tire pressureloss warning system
(Canada only)
General notes
While the vehicle is in motion, the tire
pressure loss warning system monitors the
set tire pressure using the rotational speed of
the wheels. This enables the system to detect
significant pressure loss inatire. If the speed
of rotation ofawheel changes asaresult of
aloss of pressure,acorresponding warning
message will appearinthe multifunction
display.
You can recognizethe tire pressure loss
warning by theRun Flat Indicator
Active Press 'OK' to Restartmessage
which appears in theServ.menu of the
multifunction display. Further information on
the message displaycan be found under
"Restarting the tire pressure loss warning
system" section (Ypage 342).
Important safety notes
The tire pressure warning system does not
warn you of an incorrectly set tire pressure.
Observe the notes on the recommended tire
pressure (Ypage 338).
The tire pressure loss warning does not
replace the need to regularly check the tire
pressure. An even loss of pressure on several
tires at the same time cannot be detected by
the tire pressure loss warning system.
The tire pressure monitor is not able to warn
you ofasudden loss of pressure, e.g. if the
tire is penetrated byaforeign object.Inthe
event ofasudden loss of pressure, bring the
vehicle toahalt by braking carefully. Avoid
abrupt steering maneuvers.
The function of the tire pressure loss warning
system is limited or delayed if:
Rsnow chains are mounted on your vehicle's
tires.
Rroad conditionsare wintry.
Ryou are driving on sand or gravel.

high rates of acceleration).

Restarting the tire pressure loss
warningsystem
Restart the tire pressure loss warning system
if you have:
Rchanged the tire pressure
Rchanged the wheels or tires
Rmounted new wheels or tires
XBefore restarting, make sure that the tire
pressures are set properly on all four tires
for the respective operating conditions.
The recommendedtire pressures can be
found on the Tire and Loading Information
placard on the B-pillar on the driver's side
or the tire pressure table on the fuel filler
flap.The tire pressure loss warning system
can only give reliablewarnings if you have
set the correct tire pressure. If an incorrect
tire pressure is set, these incorrectvalues
will be monitored.
XAlsoobservethenotesinthesectionontire
pressures (Ypage 338).
XMake sure that the SmartKey is in position
2in the ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XPress the\norbutton on the
steeringwheel to selecttheServ.menu.
XPress theorbutton on the
steering wheel to select theTire

Afterateach-in period, the tire pressure
loss warning system will monitor the set
tire pressures of all four tires.

The tire pressure values stored at the last
restart will continue to be monitored.
Tire pressuremonitor
General notes
Ifatire pressure monitor is installed, the
vehicle's wheels have sensors that monitor
the tire pressures in all four tires. The tire
pressure monitor warns you if the pressure
drops in one or more of the tires. The tire
pressure monitor only functions if the correct
sensors are installed on all wheels.
Information on tire pressures is displayed in
the multifunction display. Afterafew minutes
of driving, the current tire pressure of each
tire is shown in theServicemenu of the
multifunction display. For further information
on displaying this message, refer to the
"Checking the tire pressure electronically"
section (Ypage 344).

Occupant distribution
The distribution of occupantsinavehicleat
their designated seating positions.
Total load limit
Rated cargo and luggageloadplus
68 kilograms (150 lb) multiplied by the
number of seats in the vehicle.
Changingawheel
Flat tire
You can find information on whattodointhe
event ofaflat tire in the "Breakdown
assistance" section (Ypage 321).
Information on driving with MOExtended tires
in the event ofaflat tire can be found under
"MOExtended tires (tires with run-flat
characteristics" (Ypage 321).
Vehicle with emergency sparewheel:in
the event ofaflat tire, the emergencyspare
wheel is mounted as described under
"Mountingawheel" (Ypage 358).
Rotating the wheels
GWARNING
Interchangingthe front and rear wheels may
severely impair the driving characteristics if
the wheels or tires have different dimensions.
The wheel brakes or suspension components
may also be damaged. There isarisk of
accident.
Rotate front and rear wheels only if the wheels
and tires are of the same dimensions.
!On vehicles equipped withatire pressure
monitor, electronic components are
located in the wheel.
Tire-mounting tools should not be used
near the valve. This could damage the
electronic components.
Only have tires changed ataqualified
specialist workshop.
Always observe the instructions and safety
notes in the "Mountingawheel" section
(Ypage 358).
The wear patternsonthe front and rear tires
differ, depending on the operating conditions.
Rotate the wheels beforeaclear wear pattern
has formed on the tires. Front tires typically
wear more on the shoulders and the rear tires
in the center.
If your vehicle's tire configuration allows, you
can rotate the wheels according to the
intervals in the tire manufacturer's warranty
book in your vehicle documents. If this is not
available, the tires should then be replaced
every 3,000 to 6,000 miles (5,000 to
10,000 km), or earlier if the tire wear requires
this. Do not change the direction of wheel
rotation.
Cleanthe contact surfaces of the wheel and
the brake disc thoroughly every timeawheel
is interchanged. Check the tire pressure and,
if necessary, restart the tire pressure loss
warning system or the tire pressure monitor.
Direction of rotation
Tires withaspecified direction of rotation
have additional benefits, e.g. if there isarisk
of hydroplaning. You will only gain these
benefits if the correct direction of rotation is
maintained.
An arrow on the sidewall of the tire indicates
its correct direction of rotation.
Storing wheels
Storewheels that are not being used inacool,
dry and preferably dark place. Protect the
tires from oil, grease, gasoline and diesel.

Securing the vehicle on slight downhillgradients
XOn light downhill gradients:place
chocks or othersuitableitemsinfront of
the wheelsofthe front and rearaxle.
Raisingthe vehicle
GWARNING
If youdonot positionthe jack correctly at the
appropriate jackingpoint of the vehicle, the
jack could tip over with the vehicle raised.
There isarisk of injury.
Only position the jack at the appropriate
jackingpoint of the vehicle. The base of the
jack must be positioned vertically, directly
under the jackingpoint of the vehicle.
!The jack is designed exclusively for
jackingupthe vehicle at the jackingpoints.
Otherwise, your vehicle could be damaged.
The following must be observed when raising
the vehicle:
Rto raise the vehicle, only use the vehicle-
specific jack that has been tested and
approved by Mercedes-Benz. If used
incorrectly, the jack could tip over with the
vehicle raised.
Rthe jack is designed only to raise and hold
the vehicle forashort time whileawheel
is being changed. It is not suited for
performing maintenancework under the
vehicle.
Ravoid changing the wheel on uphill and
downhill slopes.
Rbefore raising the vehicle, secure it from
rolling away by applying the parking brake
and insertingwheel chocks. Never
disengage the parking brake while the
vehicle is raised.
Rthe jack must be placed onafirm, flat and
non-slip surface. Onaloose surface, a
large, load-bearing underlay must be used.
Onaslippery surface,anon-slip underlay
must be used, e.g. rubber mats.
Rdo not use wooden blocks or similar
objectsasajack underlay.Otherwise, the
jackwill not be able to achieveits load-
bearingcapacity due to the restricted
height.
Rmakesure that the distancebetween the
underside of the tires and the grounddoes
not exceed 1.2in(3cm).
Rnever place your hands and feet under the
raised vehicle.
Rnever lie under the raised vehicle.
Rnever start the engine when the vehicle is
raised.
Rnever open or closeadoor or the trunk lid
when the vehicle is raised.
Rmakesure that no persons are present in
the vehicle when the vehicle is raised.
XUsinglug wrench,loosen the boltson
the wheel you wish to change by about one
full turn. Do not unscrew the bolts
completely.

XStow the jack and the restofthe vehicle
toolsinthe trunk again.
XCheck the tire pressure of the newly
mounted wheel and adjustitifnecessary.

functioning sensors.

General notes
!For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz
recommends that you only use tires and
wheels which have been approved by
Mercedes-Benz specifically for your
vehicle.
These tires have been specially adapted for
use with the control systems, such as ABS
or ESP®,and are marked as follows:
RMO=Mercedes-BenzOriginal
RMOE=Mercedes-BenzOriginal Extended
(tires featuring run-flat characteristics)
RMO1=Mercedes-Benz Original (only
certain AMG tires)
Mercedes-BenzOriginal Extended tires
may only be usedonwheels that have been
specifically approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Only use tires, wheels or accessories
tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Certain characteristics, e.g. handling,
vehiclenoise emissions or fuel
consumption, may otherwise be adversely
affected. In addition, when driving with a
load, tire dimension variations couldcause
the tires to come into contact with the
bodywork and axle components. This could
result in damage to the tires or the vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz accepts no liability for
damage resulting from the use of tires,
wheels or accessories other than those
tested and approved.
Information on tires, wheels and approved
combinations can be obtained from any
qualified specialist workshop.

Check tire pressures regularly,and only when
the tires are cold. Comply with the
maintenancerecommendations of the tire
manufacturer in the vehicle document wallet.

equip the vehicle with:

Rthe same type of tires atagiven time
(summer tires, winter tires, MOExtended
tires)
Vehicles with MOExtendedtires are not

available at the factory for all countries.
