SmartKey
Important safetynotes
GWARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle,
they could:
Ropen the doors, thus endangering other
people or road users.
Rget out and disrupt traffic.
Roperate the vehicle'sequipment.
Additionally, children could set the vehicle in
motion if, for example, they:
Rrelease the parkingbrake.
Rshifting the automatic transmission out of
park positionP
RStart the engine.
There isarisk of an accidentand injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always takethe
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children or animals unattended in the
vehicle. Always keep the SmartKey out of
reach of children.
GWARNING
If persons, particularly children are subjected
to prolonged exposuretoextreme heat or
cold, thereisarisk of injury, possibly even
fatal. Never leave children unattended in the
vehicle.
GWARNING
If you attach heavy or large objects to the
SmartKey, the SmartKey could be
unintentionally turned in the ignition lock.This
could cause the engine to be switched off.
There isarisk of an accident.
Do not attach any heavy or large objectsto
the SmartKey. Remove any bulky key rings
before inserting the SmartKey into the
ignition lock.
!Keep the SmartKey away from strong
magnetic fields. Otherwise, the remote
control function could be affected.
Strong magnetic fields can occur in the
vicinity of powerful electrical installations.
RDo not keep the SmartKey:
-with electronic devices, e.g.amobile
phone or another SmartKey
-with metallic objects, e.g. coins or metal
foil
-inside metallic objects, e.g.ametal case
This can affect the functionality of the
SmartKey.

changed within thesignal range of the

The SmartKey nowfunctionsasfollows:
XTo unlock thedriver's door:pressthe
buttononce.
XTo unlock centrally:pressthe
buttontwice.
XTo lock centrally:pressthebutton.
The KEYLESS-GO function is changed as
follows:
XTo unlock thedriver's door:touch the
inner surface of thedoor handle on the
driver'sdoor.
XTo unlock centrally:touch theinner
surface of thedoor handle on thefront-
passenger door or therear door.
XTo lock centrally:touch theoutersensor
surface on one of the door handles.
XTo restorethe factorysettings:press
and hold down theandbuttons
simultaneously for approximately six
seconds until the batterychecklamp
flashes twice (Ypage 79).
Mechanicalkey
General notes
If thevehicle can no longer be lockedor
unlocked withtheSmartKey, use the
mechanical key.
If you use themechanical keytounlock and
open thedriver'sdoor or thetrunk lid, the
anti-theftalarm system will be triggered
(Ypage 74).
There are several ways to turnoff the alarm:
XTo turn the alarm off with the
SmartKey:press theorbutton
on the SmartKey.
or
XInsert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
or
XTo deactivate the alarm with KEYLESS-
GO:press the Start/Stop button in the
ignition lock. The SmartKey must be in the
vehicle.
or
XLock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The SmartKey must be outside the
vehicle.
If you unlock the vehicle using the mechanical
key, the fuel filler flapwill not be unlocked
automatically.
XTo unlock thefuel filler flap:insert the
SmartKey intothe ignition lock.

in the cargo compartment. Observe the
loading guidelines (Ypage 278).
Do not leave the SmartKey in the trunk.You
could otherwise lock yourself out.
Vehicles without trunk lid remote closing
feature:the trunk lid can be:
Ropened and closed manually from outside
Ropened automatically from outside
Ropened automatically from inside
Rlocked separately
Runlocked with the mechanical key
Ropened with the emergency release button

XPull the trunk lid down using recess.
XIf necessary, lock the vehicle with
thebutton on the SmartKey
(Ypage 76) or with KEYLESS-GO
(Ypage 77).
iIfaKEYLESS-GO key is detected in the
trunk,the trunk lid cannot be locked and
will open again.

Important safetynotes
GWARNING
Combustion enginesemit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the
trunklid is open when the engineisrunning,
especially if the vehicle is in motion. There is
arisk of poisoning.
Always switchoff the enginebeforeopening
the trunk lid. Never drive with the trunk lid
open.
!The trunk lid swingsupwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the trunk lid.

You can open the trunk lid automatically
using the SmartKey or the handle in the trunk
lid.
XPress and hold thebutton on the
SmartKey until the trunk lid opens.
or
XIf the trunk is unlocked, pull the trunk lid
handle and release it again immediately
(Ypage 85).
Closing
GWARNING
Partsofthe body could becometrapped
duringautomatic closing of the trunk lid.
Moreover, people, e.g. children, may be
standing in the closing area or may enter the
closing area duringthe closing process. There
isarisk of injury.
Make sure that nobody is in the vicinity of the
closing area duringthe closing process.
Use one of the followingoptions to stopthe
closing process:
RPress thebutton on the key.
Rpress the remote operating switchonthe
driver's door.
RPress the closing or locking button on the
trunk lid.
RPull the trunk lid handle.

To unlock
XTurn the mechanical key counter-clockwise
from position
as far as it willgoto
position.
The trunk is unlocked.
XTurn the mechanical key back to position

and remove it.
XInsert the mechanical key into the
SmartKey.
Trunk emergencyrelease
You can open thetrunk lid from inside the
vehicle with theemergency releasebutton.
XPressemergency releasebuttonbriefly.
The trunk lid unlocksand opens.
The trunk lid can be unlocked and opened
with thetrunk lid emergency releasewhen
thevehicle is stationaryorwhile driving.
The trunk lid emergency releasedoes not
open thetrunk lid if thebattery is
disconnectedordischarged.
Trunklid emergency release light:
Remergency release buttonflashes for
30 minutes after the trunk lid is opened
Remergency release buttonflashes for
60 minutes after the trunk lid is closed
Side windows
Important safety notes
GWARNING
While opening the side windows,body parts
could become trapped between the side
window and the door frameasthe side
window moves. There isarisk of injury.
Make sure that nobody touches the side
window duringthe opening procedure. If
somebody becomes trapped, release the
switchorpull the switchtoclosethe side
window again.

While opening the side windows,body parts
in the closing area could become trapped.
There isarisk of injury.
Make sure that no body partsare in close
proximityduringthe closing procedure. If
somebody becomes trapped, release the
switchorpress the switchtoopen the side
window again.
GWARNING
If children operatethe side windows they
could become trapped, particularly if theyare
left unsupervised. There isarisk of injury.
Activate the override feature for the rear side
windows.When leaving the vehicle, always
take the SmartKey with you and lock the
vehicle. Never leave children unsupervised in
the vehicle.
Side window reversing feature
The side windows are equipped with an
automatic reversing feature. Ifasolid object
