If it is necessary to switch on th ewindshield
wiper sindry weather conditions, always
use washe rfluid when operating the
windshield wipers.
! If the windshield wipers leave smear son
the windshield after the vehicle has been
washed in an automatic car wash, wax or
other residues may be the reason for this.
Clean the windshield using washer fluid
after washin gthe vehicle in an automatic
car wash.
! Intermitten twiping with rain sensor: due
to optical influences and the windshield
becomin gdirtyind ry weathe rconditions,
the windshield wipers may be activated
inadvertently. This could then damage the
windshield wiper blades or scratc hthe
windshield.
For this reason, you should always switch
off the windshield wipers in dry weather. Combination switch

Switch on the ignition.
X Turn the combination switch to the
corresponding position.
In the 0003or0002 position, the appropriate
wiping frequency is set automatically
according to the intensity of the rain. In
the 0002 position, the rain sensor is more
sensitive than in the 0003position, causing
the windshield wipers to wipe more
frequently.
If the wiper blades are worn, the windshield
will no longer be wiped properly. This could
prevent you from observing the traffic
conditions. Replace the wiper blades twice a
year, ideall yinspring and fall. Replacing the wiper blades

WARNING
If the windshield wipers begin to move while
you are changing the wiper blades, you could
be trapped by the wiper arm. There is arisk
of injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
ignition before changing the wiper blades.
! To avoid damaging the wiper blades,
make sure that you touch only the wiper
arm of the wiper.
! Never open the hood if awindshield wiper
arm has been folded away from the
windshield.
Never fold awindshield wiper arm without
aw iper blade back ontot he windshield.
Hold the windshield wiper arm firmly when
you change the wiper blade. If you release
the windshield wiper arm without awiper
blade and it falls ontot he windshield, the
windshield may be damaged by the force of
the impact.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
the wiper blades changed at aqualified
specialist workshop. 126

Turn the SmartKey to position 0in the
ignition lock or remove it (Y page 147).
X To activate: press the0018button.
The indicator lamp in the 0018button lights
up.
i If the residual heat function is activated,
the windows may fog up on the inside.
i The blower will run at alow speed
regardless of the airflow setting.
i If you activat ethe residual heat function
at high temperatures, only the ventilation
will be activated. The blower runs at
medium speed.
X To deactivate: press the0018button.
The indicator lamp in the 0018button goes
out.
Residua lheat is deactivated automatically:
R after approximately 30 minutes
R when the ignition is switched on

Very hot or very cold air can flow from the air
vents. This could result in burns or frostbite in
the immediate vicinit yofthe air vents. There
is ar isk of injury.
Make sure that all vehicle occupant salways
maintain asufficient distanc etothe air
outlets. If necessary, redirect the airflow to
another area of the vehicle interior.
In order to ensure the direct flow of fresh air
through the air ventsi nto the vehicle interior,
please observe the following notes:
R keep the air inlet between the windshield
and the hood free of blockages, such as ice,
snow or leaves.
R never cover the air ventsora ir intakegrilles

DISTRONIC PLUS usesa dditionalinformation
from yourn avigation system so that it can
react appropriately to certain traffic
situations. This is the case if, while following
av ehicle, DISTRONIC PLUS is active and you:
R approach or drive through atraffic circle
R approach aT-intersection
R turn off at ahighwaye xit
Even if the vehicl einfront leaves the
detection range, DISTRONIC PLUS
temporarily maintains the current driving
spee dand does not accelerate. This is based
on the current map data in the navigation
system.
Afterwards, the vehicl eaccelerates back to
the spee dyou set.
Stopping G
WARNING
Never get out of the vehicl ewhen DISTRONIC
PLUS is activated.
DISTRONIC PLUS must alson ever be
operated, activated or deactivated by a
passenger or from outside the vehicle.
DISTRONIC PLUS does not replace the
parking brake and must not be used for
parking. The DISTRONIC PLUS braking effect is
canceled and the vehicl
ecan start moving if:
R DISTRONIC PLUS is deactivated using the
cruise control lever.
R you accelerate.
R there is amalfunction in the system or an
interruption in the power supply,e .g.
battery failure.
R the electrica lsystem in the engine
compartment, the battery or the fuses are
tampere dwith.
R the battery is disconnected.
If you wishtol eave the vehicl eorpark it,
deactivate DISTRONIC PLUS and secure the
vehicl eagainst rolling away.
If DISTRONIC PLUS detects that the vehicle
in front is stopping, it brakes yourv ehicle until
it is stationary.
Oncey our vehicle is stationary, it remains
stationary and you do not need to depress the
brake.
i Depending on the specified minimum
distance, your vehicle will come to a
standstill at asufficien tdistanc ebehin dthe
vehicle in front .The specified minimum
distance is set using the control on the
cruise control lever.
When DISTRONIC PLUS is activated, the
transmission is shifted automatically to
position Pif:
R the driver's door is open and the driver's
seat belt is unfastened.
R the engine is switched off, unless it is
automatically switched off by the ECO
start/stop function.
R the hood is opened.
R as ystem malfunction occurs.

There is arisk of an accident.
If you wish to exit the vehicle, always turn off
the HOLD function and secure the vehicle
against rolling away.
! If DISTRONIC PLUS or the HOLD function
is activated, the vehicle brakes
automaticallyinc ertain situations. To
prevent damage to the vehicle, deactivate
DISTRONIC PLUS and the HOLD function in
the following or other similars ituations:
R when towin gthe vehicle
R in the car wash

Make sure that the activation conditions
are met.
X Depress the brak epedal.
X Quickly depres sthe brak epedal further
until 0007001A appears in the multifunction
display.
The HOL Dfunction is activated. You can
release the brak epedal.
i If depressing the brak epedal the first
tim edoes not activat ethe HOL Dfunction,
wait briefly and the ntry again.
Deactivatin gthe HOLD function The HOLD function is deactivated
automatically if:
R
you accelerate and the transmission is in
position Dor R.
R you shift the transmission to position P.
R you depress the brake peda lagain with a
certain amount of pressure until 0007
disappears from the multifunction display.
R you activate DISTRONIC PLUS.
When the HOLD function is activated ,the
transmission is shifted automatically to
position Pif:
R the driver's door is open and the driver's

R the engine is switched off, unless it is

Let an overheated engine cool down before
opening the hood. If there is afire in the
engine compartment, keep the hood closed
and contact the fire department.
! Adisplay message is shown if the coolant
temperature is too high.
If the coolan ttemperature is over
248 ‡(120 †), do not continue driving. The
engine will otherwise be damaged. The coolan
ttemperature gauge is in the
instrument cluster on the left-hand side
(Y page 31).
Under normal operatin gconditions and with
the specified coolant level, the coolant
temperature may rise to 248 ‡(120 †). Tachometer
! Do not drive in the overrevving range, as
this could damage the engine.
The red band in the tachometer indicates the
engine's overrevving range.
The fuel supply is interrupted to protec tthe
