hicle" for further information).
Cycle the vehicle ignition system out of the OFF position by pressing
the Keyless Enter-N-Go™ Start/
Stop button (requires at least one
valid Key Fob in the vehicle).
NOTE:
The driver's door key cylinder and the trunk button on the RKE
transmitter cannot arm or dis-
arm the Vehicle Security Alarm.
When the Vehicle Security Alarm is armed, the interior
power door lock switches will
not unlock the doors.
The Vehicle Security Alarm is de-
signed to protect your vehicle; how-
ever, you can create conditions where
the system will give you a false alarm.
If one of the previously described
arming sequences has occurred, the
Vehicle Security Alarm will arm re-
gardless of whether you are in the
vehicle or not. If you remain in the
vehicle and open a door, the alarm
will sound. If this occurs, disarm the
Vehicle Security Alarm. If the Vehicle Security Alarm is armed
and the battery becomes discon-
nected, the Vehicle Security Alarm
will remain armed when the battery is
reconnected; the exterior lights will
flash, the horn will sound. If this oc-
curs, disarm the Vehicle Security
Alarm.
PREMIUM SECURITY
SYSTEM (for
versions/markets, where
provided)
The Premium Security system moni-
tors the doors, hood latch, and trunk
for unauthorized entry and the igni-
tion switch for unauthorized opera-
tion. The system also includes a dual
function intrusion sensor and vehicle
tilt sensor. The intrusion sensor moni-
tors the vehicle interior for motion.
The vehicle tilt sensor monitors the
vehicle for any tilting actions (tow
away, tire removal, ferry transport,
etc).
In the event that something triggers
the security system, the headlights
will turn on, the alarm will sound and
the turn signal and side repeater lights
will flash for 29 seconds, and then the
lights will continue to flash for an
additional 5 seconds. The system will
repeat this sequence for up to 8 secu-
rity violations in any mode (door ajar,
motion, hood ajar, etc.) before having
to rearm the system. At the end of any
particular trigger event, the lights will
continue to flash for 26 seconds.
TO ARM THE SYSTEM
Follow these steps to arm the theft
alarm:
1. Make sure the vehicle ignition sys-
tem is "OFF". (refer to "Starting Pro-
cedures" in "Starting And Driving"
for further information).
2. Perform one of the following
methods to lock the vehicle:
Press LOCK on the interior power
door lock switch with the driver
and/or passenger door open.
Press the LOCK button on the exte-
rior Passive Entry Door Handle with a
valid Key Fob available in the same
exterior zone (refer to "Keyless Enter-
N-Go™" in "Knowing Your Vehicle"

16
Press the LOCK button on the Re-
mote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmit-
ter.
3. If any doors are open, close them.
NOTE:
Once the security system isarmed, it remains in that state
until you disarm it by following
either of the disarming proce-
dures described. If a power loss
occurs after arming the system,
you must disarm the system after
restoring power to prevent
alarm activation.
The ultrasonic intrusion sensor (motion detector) actively moni-
tors your vehicle every time you
arm the security system. If you
prefer, you can turn OFF the ul-
trasonic intrusion sensor and
vehicle tilt sensor when arming
the security system. To do so,
press the LOCK button on the
RKE transmitter three times
within 5 seconds of arming the
system (while the Vehicle Secu-
rity Light is flashing rapidly).TO DISARM THE SYSTEM
The Vehicle Security Alarm can be
disarmed using any of the following
methods:
Press the UNLOCK button on theRemote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter.
Grasp the Passive Entry Unlock Door Handle with a valid key fob
available in the same exterior zone
(refer to "Keyless Enter-N-Go™"
in "Knowing Your Vehicle" for fur-
ther information).
Cycle the vehicle ignition system out of the OFF position by pressing
the Keyless Enter-N-Go™ Start/
Stop button (requires at least one
valid Key Fob in the vehicle).
NOTE:
The driver's door key cylinder and the trunk button on the RKE
transmitter cannot arm or dis-
arm the Vehicle Security Alarm. When the Vehicle Security
Alarm is armed, the interior
power door lock switches will
not unlock the doors.
The Vehicle Security Alarm is de-
signed to protect your vehicle; how-
ever, you can create conditions where
the system will give you a false alarm.
If one of the previously described
arming sequences has occurred, the
Vehicle Security Alarm will arm re-
gardless of whether you are in the
vehicle or not. If you remain in the
vehicle and open a door, the alarm
will sound. If this occurs, disarm the
Vehicle Security Alarm.
If the Vehicle Security Alarm is armed
and the battery becomes discon-
nected, the Vehicle Security Alarm
will remain armed when the battery is
reconnected; the exterior lights will
flash, the horn will sound. If this oc-
curs, disarm the Vehicle Security
Alarm.

WARNING!(Continued)
Do not put anything on or aroundthe air bag covers or attempt to
open them manually. You may
damage the air bags and you
could be injured because the air
bags may no longer be functional.
The protective covers for the air
bag cushions are designed to open
only when the air bags are inflat-
ing.
Do not drill, cut or tamper with the knee bolster in any way.
Do not mount any accessories to the knee bolster such as alarm
lights, stereos, citizen band ra-
dios, etc.
Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side
Air Bags (SAB)
Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side Air
Bags (SAB) may provide enhanced
protection to help protect an occupant
during a side impact. The SAB is
marked with an air bag label sewn
into the outboard side of the front
seats. When the air bag deploys, it opens the
seam between the front and side of the
seat’s trim cover. Each air bag deploys
independently; a left side impact de-
ploys the left air bag only and a right-
side impact deploys the right air bag
only.
Supplemental Side Air Bag
Inflatable Curtain (SABIC)
SABIC air bags may offer side-impact
protection to front and rear seat out-
board occupants in addition to that
provided by the body structure. Each
air bag features inflated chambers
placed adjacent to the head of each
outboard occupant that reduce the po-
tential for side-impact head injuries. The SABIC deploy downward, cover-
ing both windows on the impact side.
NOTE:
Air Bag covers may not be obvi-
ous in the interior trim, but they
will open during air bag deploy-
ment.
Being too close to the side air bags during deployment could
cause you to be severely injured
or killed.
SAB and SABIC air bags are a supple-
ment to the seat belt restraint system.
Occupants, including children who
are up against or very close to SAB or
SABIC air bags can be seriously in-
jured or killed. Occupants, especially
children, should not lean on or sleep
Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side Air Bag Label

The inflating side curtain air bag
pushes the outside edge of the head-
liner out of the way and covers the
window. The air bag inflates in about
30 milliseconds (about one-quarter of
the time that it takes to blink your
eyes) with enough force to injure you
if you are not belted and seated prop-
erly, or if items are positioned in the
area where the side curtain air bag
inflates. This especially applies to
children. The side curtain air bag is
only about 9 cm thick when it is in-
flated.
Because air bag sensors estimate de-
celeration over time, vehicle speed
and damage are not good indicators of
whether or not an air bag should have
deployed.
Front And Side Impact Sensors
In front and side impacts, impact sen-
sors can aid the ORC in determining
appropriate response to impact
events.Enhanced Accident Response
System
In the event of an impact causing air
bag deployment, if the communica-
tion network remains intact, and the
power remains intact, depending on
the nature of the event the ORC will
determine whether to have the En-
hanced Accident Response System
perform the following functions:
Cut off fuel to the engine.
Flash hazard lights as long as the
battery has power or until the igni-
tion is cycled off.
Turn on the interior lights, which remain on as long as the battery has
power or until the ignition key is
removed.
Unlock the doors automatically.
In order to reset the Enhanced Acci-
dent Response System functions after
an event, the ignition switch must be
changed from IGN ON to IGN OFF. If A Deployment Occurs
The Advanced Front Air Bags are de-
signed to deflate immediately after
deployment.
NOTE: Front and/or side air bags
will not deploy in all collisions.
This does not mean something is
wrong with the air bag system.
If you do have a collision, which de-
ploys the air bags, any or all of the
following may occur:
The nylon air bag material may
sometimes cause abrasions and/or
skin reddening to the driver and
front passenger as the air bags de-
ploy and unfold. The abrasions are
similar to friction rope burns or
those you might get sliding along a
carpet or gymnasium floor. They
are not caused by contact with
chemicals. They are not permanent
and normally heal quickly. How-
ever, if you haven't healed signifi-
cantly within a few days, or if you
have any blistering, see your doctor
immediately.

NOTE: Your vehicle may be
equipped with an Active Hood Sys-
tem. Refer to “Occupant Re-
straints” in “Things To Know Be-
fore Starting Your Vehicle” for
further information.
CAUTION!
To prevent possible damage, do not
slam the hood to close it. Lower the
hood until it is open approximately
15 cm, and then drop it. This
should secure both latches. Never
drive your vehicle unless the hood is
fully closed, with both latches en-
gaged.
WARNING!
Be sure the hood is fully latched
before driving your vehicle. If the
hood is not fully latched, it could
open when the vehicle is in motion
and block your vision. Failure to
follow this warning could result in
serious injury or death.
LIGHTS
HEADLIGHT SWITCH
The headlight switch is located
on the left side of the instru-
ment panel. This switch con-
trols the operation of the headlights,
parking lights, instrument panel
lights, instrument panel light dim-
ming, interior lights and fog lights.
NOTE: In certain European
countries, the parking light feature
will only operate with the ignition
OFF, or with either the fog lamps or
headlights also ON. Regardless of
ignition switch position, the park-
ing lights will remain ON as long as
the switch is in this first detent. Rotate the headlight switch clockwise
to the first detent for parking light
and instrument panel light operation.
Rotate the headlight switch to the sec-
ond detent for headlight, parking
light and instrument panel light op-
eration.
AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS
This system automatically turns the
headlights on or off according to am-
bient light levels. To turn the system
on, rotate the headlight switch coun-
terclockwise to the AUTO position.
When the system is on, the headlight
time delay feature is also on. This
means the headlights will stay on for
up to 90 seconds after you place the
ignition into the OFF position. To turn
the automatic system off, move the
headlight switch out of the AUTO po-
sition.
NOTE: The engine must be run-
ning before the headlights will
come on in the automatic mode.
