Removing the wiper blade
• Lift the w indshield wiper arm up from the
windshield.
• Press the loc kin g knob
(D ¢ fig. 54 on the
wiper blade . Hold the wiper b lade fi rm ly.
• Remove the wiper blade in the direct ion of
the arrow .

• Insta ll the new wiper blade in the reta iner
on the wiper arm@ unti l yo u h ear it click in ­
to place on the wiper arm .
• Place the wiper arm back on the windshield.
• Turn the service position off.
A WARNING
For your safety, you should rep lace the
wiper b lades once or twice a year . See your
authorized Audi dealer for replacement
b lades.

- The windshield w iper blades must only
be replaced w hen in the service pos ition!
Otherw ise, you risk damag ing the pa int
on the hood o r the windshie ld w iper mo­
to r.
- Yo u should not move your vehicle o r
press the windsh ield wiper lever when
t he wipe r arms are folded away from the
w indshield . The windsh ie ld wipers wou ld
move back into their original position
and co uld damage the hood and wind­
shield.
- To help prevent damage to the w iper sys­
tem, always loosen blades which are fro­
zen to the windshield before operating
w ipers.
- To help p revent damage to wiper blades,
do not use gasoline, kerosene, paint
thinner, or other solvents on or near the
w iper blades .
- To help p revent damage to the w iper
arms or other components, do not at­
tempt to move the wipe rs by hand .

- Commercial hot waxes applied by auto­
matic car washes affect the how easily
the glass surface can be cleaned .
- You can also use the service position, for
example, if you want to protect the
w indshield from icing by us ing a cover .

Digital compass
Switching the compass on and off
Applies to vehicles: with digital compass
The compass direction is shown in the rear­
view mirror.

T he digital compass only works when the igni­
tion is on . The directions are indicated with
abbreviations:
N (north), NE (northeast), E
(east), SE (southeast), S (south), SW (south­
west),
W (west), NW (northwest) .
@ Tips
To prevent inaccurate compass readings,
do not bring any remote controls, electri­
cal devices or metallic objects near the
mirror .
Adjusting the magnetic zone
Applies to vehicles: with digita l compass
The magnetic zone must be adjusted correctly
for the compass to read accurately .

the number of the magnetic zone appears in
the rearview mirror .
.. Press the button @ repeatedly to select the
correct magnetic zone . The selection mode
turns off after a few seconds.

Calibrating the compass
Appl ies to vehicles: with digital compass
You must recalibrate the compass if it does
not display the correct direction .

pears in the rearview mirror .
.,. Drive in a c ircle at about 6 mph (10 km/h)
until a direction is d isp layed in the rearview
mirror .
A WARNING
- To avoid endanger ing yourself and other
dr ivers, calibrate the compass in an area
where the re is no traffic.
- T he dig ita l compass is to be used as a di­
rect ional aid only. Even though you may
want to look at it wh ile you are driving,
yo u must still pay attention to traffic,
road and weather cond itions as well as
other poss ible hazards.

dations
Why is your seat adjustment so
important?
The safety belts and the airbag system can
only provide maximum protection if the front
seats are correctly adjusted.
There are various ways of adjust ing the front
seats to provide safe and comfortable support
for the driver and the front passenger . Adjust
your seat properly so that :
- you can easily and quick ly reach all the
switches and controls in the instrument
panel
-your body is prope rly supported thus reduc­
ing physical stress and fatigue
- the safety be lts and a irbag system can offer
maximum protection ¢

In the following sec tions, you will see exactly
how you can best adjust you r seats .
There are special regulations and instructions
for insta lling a child safety seat on the front
passenger's seat. Always follow the informa­
tion rega rd ing child safety provided in
G page 167, Child Safety.
WARNING
Refer to G page 128, Driving Safely for
important information, tips, suggestions
and warnings that you should read and fol­
low for your own safety and the safety of
your passengers.
A WARNING

Incorrect seating position of the dr iver and
all other passengers can result in serious
personal inj ury .
- Always keep your feet on the f loor when
the vehicle is in mo tion -never put your
feet on top of the instrument panel, out of the w indow or on top of the seat cush­
ion. This app lies especially to the passen- gers
. If your seating position is incorrect,
you increase the risk of injury in the case of sudden braking or an accident. If the
airbag inflates and the seating position is incorrect, this could result in pe rsonal
in ju ry or even death.
- It is important for both the driver and front passenge r to keep a distance of at
least 10 inches (25 cm) between them­
selves and the steering wheel and/or in­
s trumen t panel.
If you're s itting any
closer than th is, the a irbag system can ­
not protect you properly. In addition, the
front seats and head restraints m ust be
adj usted to your body height so that they
can give you max imum protect ion.
- Always try to keep as much distance as
possible between yourself and the steer­
ing wheel or instrument panel.
- Do not adjust the driver's or front pas­ senger's seat while the vehicle is moving.
Your seat may move unexpected ly , caus­
ing sudden loss of veh icle control and
pe rsonal injury. If you ad just you r seat
while the veh icle is moving, yo u are out
of posit ion.
Driver's seat
The correct seat position is important for safe
and relaxed driving .
We recommend that you adjust the dr iver's
seat in the follow ing manner:
.. Adjust the seat in fore and aft direction so
that you can easily push the pedals to the
floor wh ile keeping your knees slightly bent

.,. Adj ust the seatback so that when you s it
w ith your back against t he seatback, you can
s till grasp the top of the steering whee l.

A WARNING
Never place any objects in the driver's foot­
well. An object could get into the pedal
area and interfere with pedal function. In
case of sudden braking or an accident, you
would not be able to brake or accelerate .
Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into
the rearmost position .
To avoid contact with the airbag while it is de­
ploying, do not sit any closer to the instru­
ment panel than necessary and always wear
the three-point safety belt provided adjusted
correctly . We recommend that you adjust the
passenger's seat in the following manner:
.,. Bring the backrest up to an (almost) upright
position.
Do not ride with the seat reclined .
"" Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re­
stra ints: Adjust the head restraint so the up­
per edge is as even as possible with the top
of your head. If that is not possible, try to
adjust the head restraint so that it is as
close to this position as possible

- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden braking or accident, front pas­
sengers must never rid e in a moving ve­
hicle with the backrest reclined. Safety

maximum protection when the backrest
is upright and the safety belts are prop ­
erly positioned on the body. The more
the backrest is reclined, the greater the
risk of personal injury from an incorrect
seating position and improperly posi­
tioned safety belts.

Center armrest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several
levels .

to body size, along with the seat belt , offer
effective protection .

Installing the head restraints
.. Slide the posts on the head rest raint down
into the guides until you feel the posts click
into place.

not be able to pull the head restraint out of
the backrest.
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints shou ld be pushed
down complete ly when the rear seats are not
occupied.

restraints.
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a child
seat¢
page 175. Install the head re­
straint again immediately once the child
seat is removed. Driving without head re­
straints or with head restraints that are
not properly adjusted increases the risk
of serious or fata l neck injury dramatical­
ly.

Correctly adjusted head restraints and
safety belts are an extremely effective
combination of safety features .
Seat memory
Description
Applies to vehicles: with memory function
The memory function allo ws you to quickly
and easily store and reca ll personal seating
p ro files for the driver. The memory function is
ope rated through the master key and the
memory buttons in the driver's door.
The driver's seating profile is stored and as­
signed to the master key each time the vehicle
is locked. When you open the door, the seat profile
is automatically recalled. If two peop le
use one vehicle, it is recommended that each
person always uses "their own" master key.
Up to 2 seat profiles can be stored in the
memory buttons in the drive r's door. Once
they are stored, these seat profiles can be se­
l ected at any time .
In addition to the driver's seat settings, you
can a lso store and access the exterior mirror
adjustment settings* using the remote con­
trol key or memory button.
Remote control key
Applies to vehicles: wit h seat memory
To assign the driver's seat settings to the re­
mote control key when locking the veh icle, the
function must be activated in the rad io or
MMI*
