- The BCM monitors the following conditions continuously in theft deterrent mode.
Theft deterrent alarm activation (for vehicles with SKM)
Any door including hood and tailgate is opened in theft deterrent mode.
The LOCK switch of any door including tailgate is set to UNLOCK in theft deterrent mode.
Any door including tailgate and hood is closed and then opened after 30 seconds of alarming.
The hazard warning lamp and warning horn are activated for 30 seconds at intervals of 0.5 sec.

Theft deterrent alarm deactivation conditions (for vehicles with SKM)
The theft deterrent alarm is deactivated in the following conditions. The theft deterrent mode is kept
ON.
a. Door LOCK/UNLOCK signal by smart key is received.
b. Tailgate open signal by smart key is received.
c. UNLOCK signal by door switch is received.
d. Tailgate open switch signal is received.
e. IGN ON signal is received.
f. Panic function is activated.
When the ignition is turned ON while the theft deterrent alarm is activated, the alarm is deactivated
immediately.
When the theft deterrent alarm is activated in theft deterrent mode, turning the ignition ON
immediately deactivates the mode. The alarm is deactivated 30 seconds (time remaining) after that.
If no deactivation command is received, the system enter the theft deterrent mode after the 30
seconds. -

Theft deterrent mode re-activation after tailgate open (for vehicles with SKM)
All doors except the tailgate are in theft deterrent mode, the system searches for the smart key inside the
vehicle 1 second after the tailgate is closed. If no smart key is found, the system enters the theft
deterrent mode again.
The hazard warning lamp and warning horn are activated when the system enters the mode.

LH/RH turn signal lamp control
The LH/RH turn signal lamp switch is turned ON with IGN ON.
The LH/RH turn signal lamp flashes 75 times per minute (T1), and the internal buzzer sounds at
intervals of 0.4 sec. ON/0.4 sec. OFF.
The LH/RH turn signal lamp and internal buzzer are deactivated when the LH/RH turn signal lamp
switch is turned OFF. A.
B.
C. Operation 1.

intervals of 0.3 sec. ON/0.3 sec. OFF. D.
E. Operation 2.
The LH/RH turn signal lamp is activated only with IGN ON. F. Operation 3.
20. FLASHER FUNCTION
The LH/RH turn signal lamp flashes 3 times once the corresponding lamp switch is turned ON.
When the LH turn signal lamp switch is turned OFF during the 3 times flashing, the turn signal
lamp goes out after the flashing operation.
When the LH turn signal lamp switch is turned ON during the 3 times flashing, the turn signal lamp
flashes 3 more times.
When the RH turn signal lamp switch is turned ON during the 3 times flashing, the LH turn signal
lamp goes out immediately and the RH turn signal lamp flashes 3 times before switching off. -

AUTO hazard warning flasher control
The hazard warning lamp comes on 3 times (T3) when the AUTO hazard warning lamp switch is
pressed for less than 0.6 seconds (T1). A. Operation 1.
The hazard warning lamp comes on 10 times (T4) when the AUTO hazard warning lamp switch is
pressed for 0.6 seconds or more (T2).
The turn signal lamp switch is pressed during the AUTO hazard warning lamp operation.
The corresponding turn signal lamp is activated after this AUTO hazard warning lamp operation. B.
C.
D. Operation 2.
The AUTO hazard warning lamp can be controlled only with IGN ON.
The input from the AUTO hazard warning lamp switch is ignored during the turn signal lamp
operation by the turn signal lamp switch.

Emergency hazard warning lamp control (coupled with ABS)
The emergency stop signal is input from the ABS/ESP module with the vehicle driven at 50 km/h or
more.
The hazard warning lamp flashes at 4 Hz (T1) and internal buzzer (chime) sounds at 1.25 Hz. A.
B. Operation 1. (emergency stop signal)
During operation 1 (emergency stop signal activated)
The vehicle speed decreased to 50 km/h or less
The hazard warning lamp flashes for 10 seconds (T2) at 1.25 Hz and then goes out. C.
D.
E.
The BCM activates emergency hazard warning lamp operation when receiving emergency braking
signal from the ESP/ABS.

During operation 2 (emergency AUTO hazard warning lamp)
The hazard warning lamp switch is turned OFF.
The hazard warning lamp is turned OFF because the manual operation overrides the emergency
AUTO operation. F.
G.
H.
The emergency stop signal and emergency AUTO hazard warning lamp signal are switched off
when the vehicle speed exceeds 10 km/h (if emergency stop signal is input).

3) Immobilizer Ignition Key Verification
When turning the ignition key to the ON position, the power is supplied to the immobilizer unit and EMS
(ECU). The ECU communicates with the immobilizer unit to verify the key and transponder. If it is valid,
the ECU starts to control the engine or immobilizer indicator (illumination or flashing) when the ignition key
is turned to the START position.
Once the key is verified, valid key verification time is provided for 10 seconds and the engine can be
started by turning the ignition key to the engine START position during this verification time. If the ignition
key is turned to the START position again after the 10 seconds of verification time, the key verification
should be reperformed.
When the ignition key is inserted, the immobilizer unit requests the transponder verification through
the antenna.
The transponder sends the encrypted message to the immobilizer control unit.
The immobilizer unit compares the encrypted message received from the transponder to the
coded value through the logic circuit. If they are identical, it requests the transponder approval.
When the ignition is turned ON, the EMS (ECU) requests immobilizer verification process through
the P-CAN.
The immobilizer control unit sends the encrypted message to the EMS (ECU).
The EMS controls the engine normally when the coded value and the encrypted message sent
from the immobilizer are identical. 1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
When the immobilizer verification has failed, the verification signal is sent again 3 times for 2
seconds, and the verification procedure is carried out up to 3 times by turning the ignition ON within
10 seconds. If the three re-verifications fail, verification procedure is stopped and will be restarted
after 10 seconds.

(3) Passive LOCK
The passive LOCK (door LOCK) is activated by the door handle switch with a valid smart key present
within the passive entry actuation area.
Passive LOCK and verification by door handle switch
The ignition is turned OFF or ACC is turned ON.
All doors are closed and the driver door is unlocked.
The door handle switch on the driver or passenger door is pressed briefly.
The SKM verifies if a smart key is outside the vehicle using the door handle antenna (LF verification)
(The SKM searches the last smart key used first. Searching for a smart key signal from the outside
the vehicle is followed by searching from the inside the vehicle).
The verification signal (RF verification) from the smart key is sent to the REKES antenna of the SKM.
The SKM sends the Passive LOCK signal to the BCM through the B-CAN if the verified smart key is
found outside the vehicle.
The BCM receives the signal from the SKM and controls the door LOCK actuator and turn signal
lamp. (The buzzer sounds once and hazard warning lamp flashes twice when the system enters the
theft deterrent mode) -
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
If no smart key is identified as being outside the vehicle, the passive LOCK process is stopped and
restarted when the next signal is received from the door handle switch.
When the door handle switch is pressed with ACC ON and driver door unlocked, the SKM changes
the ignition status to OFF and sends the passive LOCK signal to the BCM through the B-CAN to lock
the door. The BCM ignores the signal if the ignition is turned ON. -
