To avoid damage to the seats and the seat
heating, observe the following information:
R keep liquids from spilling on the seats. If
liquid is spilled on the seats, dry them as
soon as possible.
R if the seat covers are damp or wet, do not
switch on the seat heating. The seat
heating should also not be used to dry
the seats.
R clean the seat covers as recommended;
see the "Interior care" section.
R do not transport heavy loads on the
seats. Do not place sharp objects on the
seat cushions, e.g. knives, nails or tools.
The seats should only be occupied by
passengers, if possible.
R when the seat heating is in operation, do
not cover the seats with insulating
materials, e.g. blankets, coats, bags,
seat covers, child seats or booster seats.

WARNING
Make sure that nobody can become trapped
when moving the seat. If there is a risk of
someone becoming trapped, press the button
again or press the seat adjustment switch on
the door.
Never place hands under the seat or near any
moving parts while a seat is being adjusted.
! Make sure that there are no containers in
the cup holder and no objects in the
footwell or behind the seats when adjusting
the seats. Otherwise, you could damage
the seats and the objects. You can move the seat forwards in order to
gain better access to the rear compartment,
e.g. to reach the stowage compartment in the
rear (Y

Remove the seat belt from the seat belt
guide (Y page 117).
X To move the seat forwards: press
the 0007 button on switch 0002.
The seat moves automatically to the
foremost position.
X To move the seat backwards: press the
0006 button on switch 0002.
The seat moves back to the previous
position.
X To stop seat movement: press the0007

X To activate: activate the Adaptive
Highbeam Assist function using the on-
board computer (Y page 233).
X Turn the light switch to 0006.
X Press the combination switch beyond the
pressure point in the direction of arrow 0002
(Y page 129).
The 0002 indicator lamp in the
multifunction display lights up if it is dark
and the light sensor activates the low-beam
headlamps.
If you are driving at speeds above
approximately 28 mph (45 km/h):
the headlamp range is set automatically
depending on the distance between the
vehicle and other road users.
If you are driving at speeds above
approximately 35 mph (55 km/h) and no
other road users have been detected: the high-beam headlamps are switched on
automatically. The
0009indicator lamp in
the instrument cluster also lights up.
If you are driving at speeds below
approximately 30 mph (45 km/h) or other
road users have been detected or the roads
are adequately lit:
The high-beam headlamps are switched off
automatically. The 0009indicator lamp in
the instrument cluster goes out. The 0002
indicator lamp in the multifunction display
remains lit.
X To deactivate: move the combination
switch back to its normal position.
The 0002 indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster goes out. Headlamps fogged up on the inside
The headlamps may fog up on the inside if
there is high atmospheric humidity.
X Switch on the lights and drive off.
The level of fogging diminishes, depending
on the length of the journey and the
weather conditions (humidity and
temperature).
If the level of fogging does not diminish:
X Have the headlamps checked at a qualified
specialist workshop. 132

To engage: push handle 0002.
Whe nthe electric parking brake is
engaged, the 0005(USA only) or 000B
(Canada only) red indicator lamp lights up
in the instrument cluster.
i The electric parking brake can also be
applied when the SmartKey is removed.
X To release: switch on the ignition.
X Pull handle 0002.
The red 0005(USA only) or 000B(Canada
only) indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster goes out.
i The electric parking brake can only be
released:
R if the SmartKey is in position 1in the
ignition lock or
R if the ignition was switched on using the
Start/Stop button.
Applying automatically The electric parking brake is applied
automatically:
R if DISTRONIC PLUS brings the vehicle to a
standstill or
R if the HOLD function is keeping the vehicle
stationary
In addition, at least one of the following
conditions must be fulfilled:
R the engine is switched off, unless it is
automatically switched off by the ECO
start/stop function.
R the driver's seat belt is not inserted in the
belt buckle and the driver's door is open.
R the vehicle is stationary for a lengthy
period.
The red 0005(USA only) or 000B(Canada
only) indicator lamp in the instrumentc luster
lights up. Releasing automatically The electric parking brake is released
automatically when all of the following
conditions are fulfilled:
R
the engine is running.
R the transmission is in position Dor R.
R the driver's seat belt is fastened.
R you depress the accelerator pedal.
If the transmission is in position R, the trunk
lid must be closed.
If your seat belt is not fastened, the following
conditions must be fulfilled to automatically
release the electric parking brake:
R the driver's door is closed.
R you have shifted out of Por you have
previously drive nfaster than 2mph
(3 km/h).
Emergency braking The vehicle can also be braked during an
emergency by using the electric parking
brake.

While driving, push handle 0002of the electric
parking brake.
i The vehicle is braked for as long as the
handle of the electric parking brake is
pressed. The longer the electric parking
brake handle is depressed, the greater the
braking force.
During braking:
R a warning tone sounds.
R the Release Parking Brake message
appears.
R the red 0005(USA only) or 000B(Canada
only) indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster flashes.
When the vehicle has been braked to a
standstill, the electric parking brake is

ATTENTION ASSIST assesses your level of
fatigue or lapses in concentratio nby taking
the following criteria into account:
R your personal driving style, e.g. steering
characteristics
R journey details, e.g. time of day and length
of journey
The functionality of ATTENTION ASSIST is
restricted and warnings may be delayed or
not occur at all:
R if the road condition is poor, e.g. if the
surface is uneven or if there are potholes
R if there is a strong side wind
R if you have adopted a sporty driving style
with high cornering speeds or high rates of
acceleration
R if you are predominantly driving slower
than 50 mph (80 km/h) or faster than
112 mph (180 km/h)
R if you are currently using COMAND or
making a telephone call wit hit
R if the time has been set incorrectly
R in active driving situations, such as when
you change lanes or change your speed
Warning and display messages in the
multifunction display X
Activate ATTENTION ASSIST using the on-
board computer (Y page 231).
Symbol 0002appears in the multifunction
display.
X The Attention Assist: Take a Break! message appears in the
multifunction display. If necessary, take
a break.
X Press the 000For001F button to confirm
the message. If ATTENTION ASSIST is active, you will be
warned no sooner than 20 minutes after your
journey has begun. In additio
nto the message
shown in the multifunction display, you will
then hear an intermittent warning tone twice.
On long journeys, take regular breaks in good
time to allow yourself to rest properly. If you
do not take a break and ATTENTION ASSIST
still detects increasing lapses in
concentration, you will be warned again after
15 minutes at the earliest.
ATTENTION ASSIST is reset when you
continue your journey and starts assessing
your tiredness again if:
R you switch off the engine.
R you take off your seat belt and open the
driver's door, e.g. for a change of drivers or
to take a break. Active Driving Assistance package
General notes The Active Driving Assistance package
consists of DISTRONIC PLUS (Y
page 186),
Active Blind Spot Assist (Y page 214) and
Active Lane Keeping Assist (Y page 218).
Active Blind Spot Assist Important safety notes
Active Blind Spot Assist is only an aid. It may
fail to detect some vehicles and is no
substitute for attentive driving. G
WARNING
Active Blind Spot Assist does not react to:
R vehicles overtaken too closely on the side,
placing them in the blind spot area
R vehicles approaching and driving by with a
speed difference of more than
approximately 6.8 mph (11 km/h)
As a result, Active Blind Spot Assist may
neither give warnings nor intervene in such

Stopping the RACETIMER

Press the 001Fbutton on the steering
wheel.
X Press 000Fto confirm Yes .
The RACETIMER interrupts timing when you
stop the vehicle and turn the SmartKey to
position 1in the ignition lock. If you turn the
key to position 2or 3and then press 000Fto
confirm Start , timing is continued.
Resetting the current lap
X Stop the RACETIMER.
X Press the 0004or0008 button to select
Reset Lap .
X Press 000Fto reset the lap time to "0".
Deleting all laps If you switch off the engine, the RACETIMER
is reset to "0" after 30 seconds. All laps are
deleted.
You cannot delete individual stored laps. If
you have stopped 16 laps, the current lap
does not have to be reset.
X Reset the current lap.
X Press 000Fto confirm Reset .
Reset Race Timer? appears in the
multifunction display.
X Press the 0007button to select Yes and
press the 000Fbutton to confirm.
All laps are deleted. Overall statistics
